二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Despite the countless differences between people’s characters and careers, or their likes and their dislikes, it seems that we are all connected in this wonderful life by one thing: namely, seeking happiness.

Happiness means, naturally, different things to different people. For myself, happiness is synonymous(同义的)with horse riding, Cadbury’s Creme Eggs and spending time with my friends. Some people are at their happiest at home, while others find their happiness through travelling far-off foreign lands. Happiness can be as simple as a surprise bunch of fresh flowers or a really strong coffee, just when you need it most. Sometimes, happiness comes from spending time with loved ones; for others, it’s having a well-earned quiet night at home, with nothing but a comfortable bed for company.

Since it comes in so many shapes and sizes, it’s sometimes easy to take happiness for granted.  It is especially true if it’s been “one of those days”. Maybe you overslept, missed the bus and had to walk to school in the rain, only to be told that you were late. Or perhaps, because of work, you had to cancel plans with friends, despite looking forward to seeing them for ages. Forgotten keys, delayed flights, an argument with your parents, illness or injury... all very frustrating, and understandably guaranteed to make you feel unhappy.

Luckily, there are a few simple, scientifically proven ways to make the glass seem half-full again. To start with, things like trying out cycling or walking instead of driving to work and listening to music are great moodboosters(情绪助推器). Volunteering and getting involved with a charity are two ways in which you can become happier through helping others. Last, but certainly not least, try hugging your way to happiness; it’s been suggested that we humans need a minimum(最少的)of five hugs a day. If you’ve been having a bad day, there’s nothing better than a good old bear-hug.

1What would be the main idea of Paragraph 2?

    A.Happiness comes from different things.

B.Fresh flowers can give you a surprise.

C.Some people enjoy themselves at home.

D.It is pleasant to spend time with close friends.

2The underlined part “one of those days” may refer to a day when   .

A.it is easy to be happy

B.you go to work on time

C.you have a coffee at home

D.you tend to be sad at your life

3To tell us that people are easy to take happiness for granted, the writer   .

A.performs an experiment B.provides some examples

C.tells an interesting story D.brings up some problems

4Where does the passage come from?

    A.In a scientific report. B.In an advertisement.

    C.In a guidebook. D.In a novel.

  • 23、   Nobody likes to think they are "that guy" at work. 1 So, what are some of the rudest things that people do at work - and why shouldn't you do them?

    • Behaving in an unacceptable way

The most common form of this is eating smelly foods at lunchtime. Other things alike include body smell and its opposite, the wearing of strong perfume, messy desks, or bad breath. 2

    • Checking email on your phone when you're talking to other people

A recent survey shows that 49 percent of people said their bosses checked their phones while talking with them. 3 If you've ever wondered why your team members are unmotivated, this may be why. In fact, when you're talking to someone at work, you should reject any non-important calls.

    4

Do you like the sound of your own voice? Great. Perhaps it's time you learned to like the sound of other people's voices too. If you interrupt others when they speak, they'll dislike you and discount whatever you're saying. However, if you listen to what others say and show interest by asking intelligent questions, they'll love you and be likely to give you their support when you speak,

    • Boasting about how much you earn

5 If you show off your income to someone and then discover you get less than them, you'll look like a fool. If you earn more, they'll feel tired of you. So keep them guessing and hide your earning power in quiet ways like always paying for the team coffees.

    A.Talking all the time

    B.Being a good listener

    C.Team-working can never be ignored.

D.All these things will become part of your personal brand.

E.It's better to be modest when you talk about your incomes.

F.Bad behavior at work is common --and often we do it without thinking.

G.An interesting email seems more valuable than the person you are actually talking to.

  • 24、The most important life lesson I’ve learned from running is to run at my own pace. This lesson has guided me in many ways. In particular, it made me challenge the fixed expectations of retirement and aging.

Running is a metaphor (隐喻) for life. I realized this while training for a marathon to celebrate my 60th birthday. All the other runners being faster than me made me embarrassed, but my coach shared some valuable advice: run at your own best pace — setting a goal or target time could be a limitation. He was right. Over time I ran more easily and faster. I also enjoyed the experience much more.

I have applied this principle to other areas of my life. Finding a rhythm is not about efficiency or how many things I can get done in a day. It has more to do with what I decide to do at this stage in my life. Running carries its own set of expectations, including what people at certain life stage should be doing or not doing. Expectations at my age can center on how leisure time is spent, decisions about employment, and even the role of a grandparent.

I used to think it was young people who bore the impact of peer pressure, but older adults can experience it too. This is ironic, because often later in this life is a time when we tend to care less about the opinions of others.

I’m not suggesting we postpone dreams. Of course, we should do what matters to us, but it’s easy to view retirement as another occupation with benchmarks (基准) to be met. It’s a comparison trap that makes what someone else does the reference point.

Forget what others are doing. Their pace is not necessarily the pace you should run at. Run at your own way. Our bodies know what they need. Our hearts know what they need. In living life on our own terms, we will likely feel stronger in body, mind and spirit.

【1】What motivated the author to participate in marathon?

    A.Her eager interest in running.

    B.Her strong curiosity for marathon.

C.Her keen wish to celebrate her birthday.

D.Her urgent need to enhance her strength.

【2】What do the underlined words “this principle” in paragraph 3 probably refer to?

    A.Setting a target time.

    B.Finding your limitation.

    C.Challenging fixed idcas.

    D.Running at your own pace.

【3】How does the author feel about being retired?

    A.Nervous.

    B.Confused.

    C.Optimistic.

    D.Grateful.

【4】What can we know about the author?

A.She benefits from the coach’s words.

B.She used to be a professional runner.

C.She sees the value of a reference point.

D.She’s suffering a lot from peer pressure.
