27、 Early when I was having my first go at being a father, our family lived in Philadelphia, and near our house there was a small playground where boys gathered for ball games. My son loved playing sports, but he was unprepared for what developed as his friends grew older.
After years together laughing and playing, several of the boys grew angry and unkind. Finally, they turned on my son, leaving him out of their games.
At first, I tried to encourage him so he would give the playground another go. But one Saturday morning I told him he could not come into the house. “You have to figure this out,” I said. “I’ll stay with you as long as you need, but I cannot let you just give up.” He cried. I kept saying: “You can do it.”
Did I do the right thing? Even now I’m not sure. He did go back to the playground. But while teaching him to stand up for himself, was I also passing along the prejudice that a boy should override his pain and never back down from a fight?
Research has found high school boys are more likely than girls to have been in a fight in the past year and boys are more likely to have been victims of violence.
When I was young, I went to an all-boys high school where the bigger and more violent guys ruled. One spring, after a school dance, a fight broke out. One of them, an older boy others said was “crazy,” was kicking another boy, who was seriously injured that night.
I have never forgotten that. As a psychologist, I have spoken with many young men who have had similarly sad experiences, and I have heard from many parents about the influence on their sons. When having stressful experiences like these, boys often pull away from their families.
The parents, understandably, feel anxious, but what they can do, must do, for their sons is never underestimate the power of listening to them, knowing them, and standing by them.
【1】How did the author’s son feel during his first years on the playground?
A.Proud. B.Happy. C.Unprepared. D.Unwelcome.
【2】What did the author do to encourage his son to return to the playground?
A.He comforted him. B.He went there with him.
C.He pushed him forward. D.He had a talk with the other boys.
【3】Why does the author mention the boy injured in a fight?
A.To show the harm of violence. B.To show violence is inborn in boys.
C.To show fighting is common in boys. D.To show uncontrolled violence at school.
【4】What does the author advise parents to do for their sons?
A.Leave them alone. B.Set a good example for them.
C.Teach them never to give up. D.Understand and support them.
28、 What should you think about when you try to find your career? You are probably better at some school subjects than others. These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to know the subjects you do well in at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value.
Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at mental work or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills.
If you have had a part - time job on Saturday or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part - time job.
Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. You may be all thumbs when you handle tools; perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is bitter to face any weaknesses than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not feel sorry about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.

29、It used to be mostly the military that used small, unpiloted airplane, called “drones”. The little planes were very costly. But the fast rate of development of computer technology, image sensing devices, satellite navigation and smartphones has led to lower-priced drones. Researchers and developers have learned how to build smaller and less-costly drones sought by individuals, companies and governments.
Romain Faroux is a French businessman who starts companies. His father was a farmer. He believed drones could help farmers. He helped create a company that developed a small drone that could be controlled by people on the ground with smartphones or tablets, depending on the application of the technology of GPS. They called it “Agridrone”. It uses a special “optical sensor (光学传感器)” to examine crops. He says the technology used is similar to that used by smartphones—except it has wings.
A computer program directs the drone to fly over the crops. The sensor on the drone records four different-colored “bands” of sunlight that are reflected off the crops.
Jean-Baptiste Bruggeman, who is a farmer, says the drone flies over his crops at different times of the season, which provides a lot of information about his crops.
He says the drone pictures show him the exact amount of fertilizer (肥料) the crops need. He says it also shows exactly where the fertilizer is needed. Farmers use information gathered by the Agridrone to place fertilizer only in areas where it was needed. He says some areas of a field may need less than others. As a result, there is reduced nitrogen from the fertilizer after the harvest, which reduces pollution. Before they used the drones, farmers would put the same amount of fertilizer everywhere. He notes drones also save time because farmers can examine up to 30, 000 square metres.
【1】What used to be people’s concern of using drones?
A.Their security.
B.Their price.
C.Their size.
D.Their function.
【2】What is special for an “Agridrone”?
A.It can rely on the technology of GPS.
B.It can be controlled by smartphones.
C.It can direct its flight with an optical sensor.
D.It can examine crops and provide information.
【3】According to Mr. Bruggeman, by using drones he enjoys all the benefits EXCEPT _______.
A.saving money
B.saving time
C.helping nature
D.increasing production
【4】What is the passage mainly about?
A.A businessman built a drone for farmers.
B.Many people have begun to use drones.
C.Farmers are using drones to monitor their crops.
D.The development of technologies leads to new drones.
