26、 Stress isn’t just a state of mind. It’s something that can create disorder in your body. Experts say poor physical health can often signal poor mental health. Research shows stress affects the nervous system and can even cause structural (结构的) changes in the brain, which can change how we think and change our memory. Stress can also weaken our immune (免疫的) system, making us ill more easily.
How do you check your body for stress? Kennedy, director of psychology at Driftwood Recovery Center in Texas, said sometimes it’s easier for someone to focus on physical symptoms (症状) than to identify what they’re feeling emotionally. That’s why she advises her patients to perform a daily body check. “We’re not going to be aware of how we’re feeling or how we’re starting to have a little more muscle tension,” Kennedy said.
To check in, you need to slow down. “Check in with each muscle group, from your feet to your head,” she said. “You can notice things like, ‘Oh, I’m having a headache,’ or ‘maybe I’m having some fatigue, which makes me want to sleep.’”
Kennedy said, while stress may not feel good, our body’s responses to it are likely to be a good thing in the end if we can make full use of these signals. She also notes that one of the things that can be most healing (治愈的) to a body is connection to another person.“There’s neurochemicals (神经化学物质) that actually get produced in our brains when we’re connecting with others in a meaningful way,” she said. “Relationships and connection with others are key.”

28、One day, 12-year-old Sean Redden surfed the Internet and went to a popular chat room. Just as he was about to be offline, he saw a name he’d never seen there before, Susan. Her brief message was “Would someone help me?”
Sean typed back, “What’s wrong?” a moment later he received this message, “I can’t breathe. Help me! I can’t get out of my chair.”
Oh, man, Sean thought. Pretending to be paralyzed (瘫痪) was a bad joke. Then he wondered what if she really is sick? “Hey, Mom,” he called. “There’s a kid here who’s sick or something.” Sharon looked at the computer screen. “It’s not just some game, is it?” she asked.
The message was not a joke. Susan was actually a 20-year-old student, working late at night at a college library near Helsinke, Finland – almost 7,000 miles away from Sean’s home in Texas. While searching the Internet, she began to feel terrible pain all through her body. The library was silent and empty. The nearest phone was outside in the hallway. She couldn’t move that far. Any movement caused the pain to get worse. Then she realized she might get help on the Internet.
“I don’t think it’s a joke, Mom,” Sean said. And he typed, “Where are you?” After a long while, the letters appeared, “Finland.” Sean and Sharon couldn’t believe it. Not knowing what else to do, Sharon called the local police.
Sharon explained the situation to the officer Amy Schmidt. Schmidt told Sharon to try to get the sick girl’s phone number. Texas police called the international telephone operator and asked to be connected to the proper agency (机构) in Finland. The call was put through to a nearby rescue station. The Texas police gave Susan’s address to the Finnish operator. When Sean heard that, he typed, “Help is on the way.”
In a few minutes, Susan heard people running down the hallway outside the door. Suddenly, the door opened. Emergency workers and three policemen ran in. Susan turned once more to the computer, “They are here. Thanks. Bye-bye.”
Four days later, the police in Texas received a message from officers in Finland: “Thanks to her Internet friend, Susan has received medical treatment she badly needed. She is doing well.”

29、 TOKYO (Reuters) Young women in colourful traditional costumes, masks and white stoles braved cold weather in lines and sat seats apart from one another in Yokohama on January 11, to mark Japan’s Coming of Age Day, even though the city is under a state of emergency.
The ceremonies, typically full of kimono-clad women and smartly-dressed men, were cancelled in many cities and parties were discouraged to stop a rise in COVID-19 infections (感染).
On the second Monday in January every year, people who have turned or are about to turn 20 take part in ceremonies in local event halls or other similar places to celebrate the rite(仪式) of passage to adulthood.
The occasion, which is observed with a national holiday, serves in effect as class reunions for some teens and represents one of the major milestones for parents.
“I came as I’ve got my kimono ready and am taking steps to prevent infection. I’m not that worried," Mei Ohno, a college student, told the reporter at Yokohama Arena.
“I’ve just met my old friends after a long time. I’m having a good time. After the ceremony, I’ll take photos with my friends at the station, and then go straight home.”
Of Tokyo’s 23 regions, all but one have cancelled or put off the ceremonies. Instead, mayors’ congratulatory remarks will be offered online. The government last week declared a state of emergency for the capital and three surrounding areas.
Yokohama city, south of Tokyo, went ahead with celebrations at Pacifico Yokohama North convention hall and Yokohama Arena event hall.
“I decided to carry out today’s ceremonies as I strongly hoped everyone takes part in celebrating this once-in-a-lifetime milestone,” said the mayor(市长), in a message read out to attendees who had to take measures to keep themselves from the infection of COVID-19.
