二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、Defend Yourself Without Being Defensive

There’s a fine line between defending yourself and being defensive, but it makes a world of difference between ending and worsening a problem. If you regularly find yourself justifying yourself, blaming others, or trying to distract from the problem at hand, you may be on the defense. 【1】.

    Keep calm in the moment

【2】. If you’re feeling wound up (生气), take a deep breath and resist the urge to say anything until you’ve had a chance to think it through. You’ll handle the situation better once you’ve had a moment to ease your tension. In many situations, it’s okay to be quiet for a moment. Not every conflict needs to be addressed immediately.

Wait to respond to the criticism

A rapid reaction is usually based only on emotions. Your immediate reaction might be defensive. Pause for a moment before you reply, and don’t interrupt or cut the other person off. 【3】. Cutting in with corrections or “That’s not true” shuts down further discussion.

    【4】

An explanation can make it clearer to you what the problem is. If you don’t understand where the criticism is coming from, or if the person said something vague, respond to them with, “Can you explain?” or, “Could you tell me more?” 【5】. For example, instead of, “Don’t call my design ugly. I worked hard on that,” say, “What makes you say the design is ugly?” Or say something like, “What’s something we can do to fix that?”

    A.Encourage the person to explain

    B.Explain without defensive words

C.Let the person finish, even if he or she is wrong

D.Talking too much is not a good way to solve the problems

E.Getting angry or upset immediately tends to look defensive

F.This also gives you some time to breathe so you’re less likely to respond defensively

G.Fortunately, there are ways to find a solution to the problem without getting defensive about it

  • 27、From the beginning of the Internet, online dating (约会) has become one of the most popular things to all the consumers (顾客).Although this may be fun, it is important to remember to think of your safety when trying to meet that certain somebody. When talking about safety I am referring to taking care of your computer and yourself.

Before getting into the world of online dating you should make sure you take care of protecting your computer.A good fire wall and an antivirus program are a must. These are needed to protect your emails and anywhere you surf on the Internet.  There are many great programs offered at your local computer store or available to buy online.  With great programs often come some pretty good costs.  There is something that is better for the people who just can't afford the cost of a good antivirus—you can find quite a few decent ones on the Internet for free.

Protecting yourself could surely be much more important than protecting your computer. You want to be careful in choosing your dating sites. Do some good research. If you know anyone who has tried an online dating  service, ask them what they thought. There are so many online dating sites that you should do extensive (广泛的) researches. Make sure you keep the web addresses. Keep a list of fees, regulations and anything else that looks interesting to you. If a place looks shady or makes you feel uncomfortable then you should steer clear away. At the end of the day make sure you take care of yourself.

1When you meet somebody online you should

    A. try to know something about him or her

    B. learn to protect yourself and your computer

    A. it is necessary for you to protect your emails

  • 28、Learn How to Have a Learning Vacation

Going on a vacation to learn a skill you have long wanted to pick up sounds like a good gateway, but be cautious, said John Spence, the president of a travel company in Calif. “If you don't pick the right skill for you, or go in with unrealistic (不现实的)expectations, your precious time off won't be enjoyable,” he said.

Here, he shares his advice on planning a learning vacation that you won’t regret taking:

FOLLOW YOUR PASSION (热情). 1 . They include cooking, photography, art history, farming or a sport such as diving or horseback riding. To get the most out of the trip, choose something you're passionate about.

2 With whatever skill you intend to learn, figure out whether you want an immersion (沉浸) or only to occupy a part of your trip. It's possible to learn cooking basics, for example, by taking a week long course at Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland. Another option is to attend several half-day classes at the school and have more free time to explore the destination itself. 3. So make sure that it's what you really want,” Mr. Spence said.

CONSIDER YOUR BUDGET. No matter the skill, you can learn it by taking a vacation in a range of price ranges. 4. If you want to learn scuba diving (水肺式潜泳), for example, heading to the Maldives will cost several thousand dollars per person, while a scuba diving trip to the Florida Keys is a more wallet-friendly choice.

DON'T FORGET THE CHILDREN. 5. provided that they are fun. “Yes, you want your kids to learn, but you don’t want them to be bored by overloading them with too much information.” Mr. Spence said.

    A.A LITTLE OR A LOT

B.Don't be influenced by others’ interests

C.WHAT SKILL DO YOU WANT TO LEARN

D.Learning vacations can be great family trips, too

E.The options for what you can learn on your vacation are limitless

F.Having a clear idea of your budget will help you home in on the right trip

G.Spending your entire break devoted to learning something new can be stressful

  • 29、Everywhere I look outside my home I see people busy on their high-tech devices, while driving, walking, shopping, even sitting in toilets. When connected electronically, they are away from physical reality.

People have been influenced to become technology addicted. One survey reported that “addicted” was the word most commonly used by people to describe their relationship to iPad and similar devices. One study found that people had a harder time resisting the allure of social media than they did for sleep, cigarettes and alcohol.

The main goal of technology companies is to get people to spend more money and time on their products, not to actually improve their quality of life. They have successfully created a cultural disease. Consumers (消费者) willingly give up their freedom, money and time to catch up on the latest information, to keep pace with their peers or to appear modern.

I see people trapped in a pathological (病态的) relationship with time-sucking technology, where they serve technology more than technology serves them. I call this technology servitude. I am referring to a loss of personal freedom and independence because of uncontrolled consumption of many kinds of devices that eat up time and money.

What is a healthy use of technology devices? That is the vital question. Who is really in charge of my life? That is what we need to ask ourselves if we are to have any chance of breaking up false beliefs about their use of technology. When we can live happily without using so much technology for a day or a week, then we can regain control and personal freedom, become the master of technology and discover what there is to enjoy in life free of technology. Mae West is famous for proclaiming the wisdom that “too much of a good thing is wonderful.” But it’s time to discover that it does not work for technology.

Richard Fernandez, an executive coach at Google acknowledged that “we can be swept away by our technologies.” To break the grand digital connection people must consider how life long ago could be fantastic without today’s overused technology.

【2】According to the passage, what is technology companies’ aim?

A.To attract people to buy their products.

    D.To serve their consumers better.

【3】Which of the following is a healthy relationship with technology?

    A.Stepping away from technology completely.

B.Spending much time on electronic devices.

五、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 32、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day in a hot summer, we couldn’t stand the heat, so it seemed like a good idea to go to the beach. My oldest brother, Black, agreed to drive my younger sister, Mary and me to the beach for the day.

We drove with the windows down, and the radio playing. I sat in the front, and the wind saved me from the heat as it blew through my hair. We parked near a beach we had never been to, but it didn’t matter because I love the beach — any beach.

As soon as we carried all our things down to the sand, I ran to the water and stood there, letting the waves wash over my feet. Then I dove in and swam while the water rushed over my body. It felt icy cold at first, but it didn’t matter because the sun was so hot.

The waves were big and powerful that day. I wasn’t the best swimmer and didn’t know how to tread water because I had taught myself to swim, but I thought I could swim pretty well. Soon Black and Mary joined me, and we had a lot of fun together. When Black got out of water, Mary and I continued to jump into the waves, and slowly we drifted further away from the beach.

Suddenly, it got hard to swim back toward the shore. As I began to struggle, I saw Mary’s face just above the water. The waves were crashing over her head, and she was shouting when she wasn’t swallowing water. I tried to swim quickly to her, knowing that I had to be my fastest or she could die. Finally, I got close enough to grab her. I stopped swimming and tried to put my feet down, but I couldn’t reach the bottom. That was when I really began to feel fear.
