26、 Every time you use a tea bag, you could be absorbing billions of microplastic and nanoplastic particles (纳米塑料颗粒). That's the conclusion of researchers at McGill University in Montreal.
The research centred on four different types of tea bags, of the kind recently preferred by some premium (优质的) brands. Having been emptied of the tea itself, the bags were placed in water heated to 95℃.
Researchers were surprised to find each bag released around 11.6 billion microplastics and a further 3.1 billion even smaller nanoplastics. These levels were, says the report, “thousands of times higher than plastic amounts previously reported in other foods.”
The researchers believe that the tea bags send so many microplastics because they are heated close to boiling point. And the researchers exposed water fleas (水蚤) to water containing varying concentrations of microplatics. While the animals did not die, they did display some abnormalities (畸形) that could suggest the microplastics were having a toxic (毒的) effect on them.
“To date, the health effects of consuming microplastics to humans are still unknown, while the effects observed in the present study and in other animals gave an early warning,” the researchers conclude in their study. “One of the main potential human exposure pathways of microplastics is likely via ingestion, and particle uptake may occur in the digestive tract. Once inside the digestive tract, cellular uptake (细胞吞噬) and subcellular translocation (亚细胞移位) or localization of the ingested particles may occur.”
【1】What can we learn from paragraph 1?

27、I am an Africa wildlife filmmaker. But wildlife filmmakers from Africa are rarer than mountain gorillas(大猩猩). To understand why there are so few, we need to remember our recent history.
When the colonialists(殖民者) ruled Africa, they seized control of the continent’s wildlife and other natural resources. They saw African wildlife as “big game” and the continent’s first protected natural areas were game reserves created by driving away locals for the benefit of white hunters. Later, game reserves were renamed national parks and big game hunting gave way to wildlife tourism. But African wildlife was still there for White people’s enjoyment and benefits.
That locals could have an interest in preserving wildlife for its own sake was rarely considered. Africans -like me who tried to get involved in wildlife conservation were made to feel out of place. When I was first interviewed by a British film crew, my interview was cut at the editing stage and replaced by a white man, just because I was an African.
Africa was the setting for some of the most popular films about wildlife, but these films were made by western-owned production companies for Western audiences, and most Africans never even got to see them. What Africa needed was to see themselves and their view points in the films. We urgently needed wildlife films made by Africans, about Africans and for Africans. As producer of the documentary TV series “Wildlife Warriors”, I set out to find African conservation heroes who could play a role in the documentary. I soon discovered that we had some talented African filmmakers across the continent.
Today things are changing fast. Companies like National Geographic and the BBC are leading the way with new approaches to global storytelling that deliver diversity and equality. Our African wildlife filmmakers’ mission is to draw on the power of local storytelling to inspire our people to save our continent’s rich wildlife.
【1】Why are African wildlife filmmakers rare?
A.They lack the talent in making films.
B.They live in the shadow of westerners.
C.They are still colonized by the westerns.
D.They aren’t interested in filming wildlife.
【2】What message does the cut of my interview convey?
A.The strictness of the crew.
B.The preference for the British.
C.The prejudice against Africans.
D.The benefits of local communities.
【3】What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A.The locals enjoy wildlife films set in Africa.
B.Africans play a leading role in wildlife film-making.
C.Films made by westerners are the most popular ones.
D.Africans long for having a say in wildlife film-making.
【4】What is the purpose of the author writing the text?
A.To introduce how African wildlife are protected.
B.To urge people to better preserve African wildlife.
C.To show that the author was ignored by westerners.
D.To explain why more African filmmakers are needed.
28、Every day, whether you like it or not, you have to make choices for your future selves. Whether it’s about where you’ll be living next year or how you’ll spend your money, making tough decisions is something that is bound to happen. 【1】
【2】 When I try to make a decision, I always think about where I want to be in a year. Is this the direction I want to go? If the answer is against what I’m working towards, I’ll try to change my decision, even if that means taking the harder route.
【3】 Depending on the situation you’re in, this one can be hard to follow through on. Whether you’re making a decision about your relationship, your job or your general well-being, every decision you’ll make includes one thing in common: you. No one else is living your life. 【4】 Their advice helps you weigh your choices more objectively. Remember though: Advice is just advice.
Learn to trust yourself. The person you need to trust first is yourself. Being kind to yourself increases self-confidence and lessens your need for approval. Loving and caring for yourself not only increases self-trust, it also deepens your connection with others. 【5】 However, once you have more confidence in yourself, you may feel better about making big decisions in the future.
A.Everything we do is a choice that we make.
B.Ask for advice but make your own choice.
C.Having the confidence to trust yourself is a task on its own.
D.No matter how things may seem, you always have a choice.
E.Still, it’s never a bad idea to ask for an outsider’s advice.
F.Before you make a big decision, though, there are a few things you should consider.
G.The best way to make a decision is by knowing what your goals are.
29、 As a child, visiting the zoo was more a punishment than a treat. I didn’t find the chimps’ tea parties funny, nor the bird shows entertaining. Feeding time for seals was less painful, but their performances still seemed like they belonged more in a circus.
And I hated circuses, especially the animal acts — men teasing lions, girls balancing on elephants and monkeys playing football. I knew that every trick a circus animal did was unnatural, achieved through strict training and quite possibly cruelty.
Happily, during my lifetime public attitudes and the law have changed. Circuses using wild animals are now almost extinct, and zoos have definitely evolved.
When my children were young, I occasionally took them to our local zoo. The elephants were in tiny cages and the gorillas looked bored as they sat peeling bananas and staring at teasing visitors. Each cage had a sign which listed the animal’s name and where it came from. But, back then, there was little information included about the environmental challenges they faced.
As a result, environmentalists and animal lovers often oppose zoos. “Animals belong in the wild,” is a common — and understandable — complaint. But what do the animals themselves prefer?
Generally speaking, zoo animals have a longer life. But — you may protest — they are not free. What? Free to be hunted and killed, free to die of hunger or thirst? Maybe sitting in a cage eating bananas isn’t so bad.
Not that such conditions are acceptable in modern zoos, due to the work of BIAZA, the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums. These days every zoo requires BIAZA’s approval to operate, and the association sets the standards, observes conditions in zoos and develops animal-research programmes, both in the UK and abroad. BIAZA also organizes the animal exchanges between zoos all over the world.
Consequently, today, most zoo animals are born and raised in zoos, live in large, comfortable enclosures and are cared for by well-trained, knowledgeable and caring zoo employees. Of course it’s no substitute for living in the wild but unfortunately this isn’t always possible. Meanwhile, why not visit your local zoo and decide for yourself?
【1】From Paragraph 2, we can guess that the writer believes circus animals__________.
A.should have been placed in zoos
B.were not treated well by their trainers
C.were not as intelligent as those in zoos
D.had much shorter lives than those in the wild
【2】Which of the following statements about zoos would the writer probably agree with?
A.Zoo animals should be freed into the wild.
B.Zoos are more popular now than in the past.
C.Zoo animals are more restricted than in the past
D.Zoos now provide caring living conditions for animals.
【3】What is the best title for the text?
A.Zoos Are Improving B.Zoos or Circuses?
C.Closing Down Circuses D.Life of Animals

There was a time when British Olympic medal winners became household names because there were so few of them. But the 67 medals at this year's Games in Rio and 147 at the Paralympics meant that the GB medalists’ reception at Buckingham Palace was a crowded and happy event.
Many of this year's winners spoke of being inspired by athletes of previous generations. Inspiration fed their aspiration; and having discovered abilities they scarcely knew they had, these athletes are now inspiring others.
A few months ago, I saw inspiration of a different kind when I opened the new Cambridge base of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, where Prince William works as a helicopter pilot. It was not hard to be moved by the 【1】 of the highly skilled doctors, paramedics and crew, who are called out on average five times a day.
But to be inspirational you don't have to save lives or win medals. I often draw strength from meeting ordinary people doing extraordinary things: volunteers, careers, community organizers and good neighbors; unsung heroes whose quiet dedication makes them special.
They are an inspiration to those who know them, and their lives frequently embody a truth expressed by Mother Teresa, from this year Saint Teresa of Calcutta. She once said: 'Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love'.
This has been the experience of two 【2】 organizations, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award and The Prince's Trust, which are 60 and 40 years old this year. These started as small 【3】, but have grown beyond any expectations, and continue to transform young people's lives.
To mark my 90th birthday, volunteers and supporters of the six hundred charities of which I have been patron came to a lunch in The Mall. Many of these organizations are 【4】 in size but inspire me with the work they do. From giving friendship and support to our veterans, the elderly or the bereaved; to championing music and dance; providing animal welfare; or protecting our fields and forests, their selfless devotion and generosity of spirit is an example to us all.
When people face a challenge they sometimes talk about taking a deep breath to find courage or strength. In fact, the word 'inspire' literally means 'to breathe in'. But even with the inspiration of others, it's 【5】 that we sometimes think the world's problems are so big that we can do little to help. On our own, we cannot end wars or wipe out【6】 , but the cumulative impact of thousands of small acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine.
At Christmas, our attention is drawn to the birth of a baby some two thousand years ago. It was the humblest of beginnings, and his parents, Joseph and Mary, did not think they were important.
Jesus Christ lived obscurely for most of his life, and never travelled far. He was maligned and 【7】 by many, though he had done no wrong. And yet, billions of people now follow his teaching and find in him the guiding light for their lives. I am one of them because Christ's example helps me see the value of doing small things with great love, whoever does them and whatever they themselves believe.
The message of Christmas reminds us that inspiration is a gift to be given as well as received, and that love begins small but always grows.
I wish you all a very happy Christmas.
