二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、It's true that many dads in the wild aren't interested in parenting, but there are some that work pretty hard to give their little ones a good start. Maybe one of these dads will make you remember your own dad!

The male giant water bug doesnt seem to mind a heavy load on his back for his kids. The female puts about 100 to 150 eggs on the back of the male, and then she leaves. Once the female is gone, the male has to look after the eggs. It usually takes one to two weeks for the eggs to hatch. The father giant water bug jumps around to make sure the growing eggs get enough air and water. All this time he can't fly because of the weight of the eggs growing rapidly on his back.

Now let's turn to the male stickleback fish. When the mother leaves after laying her eggs, the father tends his young. If the young fish go too far away, their father helps with their safe return by carrying them back in his mouth. The male stickleback looks after all his young as many as 100 until they can live on their own.

A similar example can be found in emperor penguins living in cold areas. The male emperor penguin goes without food while looking after his egg until it hatches. For about 62 to 67 days, the egg stays on top of the father's feet, in very cold temperatures that drop down to -39° C. As a result, the father may lose nearly 50 percent of his body weight while waiting for his baby penguin to be born!

【1】 What do we know about the giant water bug?

    A. It is unable to fly.

    B. The eggs grow on the father's back.

    C. The male must keep still to hatch the eggs.

    D. The female looks after her eggs together with the male.

2 During the hatching period, the male emperor penguin _______________.

    A. is unable to eat

    B. is fed by the female

    C. tries to lose some weight

    D. can't stand the cold weather

3What is the best title for the text?

    A. Mr. Moms in the Wild

    B. Animals Do Have Feelings

    C. Nature Loves Us like Our Dad

    D. Childbirth in the Animal Kingdom

  • 27、Cellphones and Friends

Have you ever spent time with friends who ignored you because they were busy on their cellphones? Do you ever feel that your friends are distracted by their cellphones to the point of not hearing what you say in person? Or are you the one who pays more attention to a text conversation than a face-to-face interaction? The act of chatting on cellphones and ignoring friends is now called “phubbing”. Having your cellphone with you is necessary, because you need to deal with possible emergencies. 【1】 Here are some suggestions.

Put your cellphone on silent when you are with friends. 【2】 If you’re worried about missing an important message, you can set your cellphone to vibrate mode and check it momentarily before giving the person you are with your full attention.

Be considerate. Isn’t it annoying if your close friend constantly checks the cellphone and ignores your heartfelt words? You don’t want to feel like someone who isn’t physically there is more important than you, and neither do others. 【3】

【4】 This allows you to better digest your food. Also, engaging in face-to-face conversations with your loved ones will make the dining experience a lot more pleasant.

Don’t use your cellphone at a wedding. 【5】 You’ re invited because they want you to witness the precious moment in their lives, so respect them by being present physically, mentally, and emotionally.

    A.Speak slowly and clearly.

B.Put your cellphone aside while eating.

C.Therefore, treat others as you prefer to be treated.

D.After all, you never know when there might be an emergency.

E.Make sure you give your undivided attention to the bride and groom.

F.This makes you stay entirely focused on the face-to- face interactions.

G.However, it’s also important to have proper manners on a social occasion.

  • 28、   When the German psychologist Kurt Lewin moved to the U.S., he found his new home a little puzzling, especially when it came to friendships. “Compared with Germans, Americans seem to make quicker progress toward friendly relations early in the acquaintance process and with many more persons,” he wrote. “Yet this development often stops at a certain point and the quickly acquired friends will, after years of close relations, say goodbye as easily as after a few weeks of acquaintance.”

Lewin thought that this idea of friends as fast fashion might be encouraged by the United States’s high level of residential mobility (居住流动性).

Gillath and Keefer did studies where people took questionnaires about their willingness to  things and their history of moving from place to place. They found that people who’d moved around a lot were more willing to get rid of objects, and being willing to get rid of things was connected with being willing to cut social ties.

Moving is a big life change, and not only with regard to place. The social circles they have easy access to are also likely to change. This isn’t to suggest that people view their friends as objects. “Moving also requires making choices about which relationships are worth keeping and which are not, which ties could be replaced and which ties should be kept,” Gillath and Keefer write.

Perhaps this tendency to keep friendships from getting too deep comes not only from an easy-come, easy-go attitude due to mobility, but also the knowledge of how hard it is to leave people. As John Reisman puts it, “Within a changing society, people could, by keeping their friendships at an associative level, protect themselves from the sadness and self-blame that can be brought about when they have to cut close relationships.”

1What puzzled Kurt after he came to America?

    A.Americans were friendly to Germans.

    B.Americans easily won emotional friends.

C.Americans were likely to end friendships easily.

D.Americans considered it fashion to make friends.

2What does the underlined word “discard” in Paragraph 3 mean?

    A.Throw away B.Put away C.Take over D.Break down

3Gillath and Keefer proved that moving is a chance to _____.

    A.keep one’s former social circles

    B.judge one’s friendship with others

C.choose the objects from old friends

    D.test one’s long-distance relationships

4Why do Americans let friendships go willingly according to Reisman?

A.To be ashamed of living in a changing society.

B.To feel less guilty of moving away all the time.

C.To keep themselves from being hurt by friends.

D.To reduce the pain of ending deep friendships.

  • 29、   Technology use seems to be the new wave of addiction hitting people of all ages. Its extreme use can be compared to the use of drugs, which is called Plug-in Heroin.

The next time you’re in a crowded public place, look at the people around you. It’s hard to find someone who isn’t glued to the tiny screen, fingers moving at lightning speeds, texting their friends, emailing co-workers or listening to music. It may seem ridiculous that someone is that addicted to such a small object. I’ve seen people who seem to be at their wits’ end (不知所措) if their phone or iPad has been taken away, lost or left at home.

Some people may ask, “What’s wrong with technology use? It’s a way for people to communicate.” While this is true, the overuse of technology isn’t always appropriate in certain settings. Schools are becoming stricter about the use of cell phones, iPads and other electronics in classrooms. Various workplaces have signs hanging on their walls warning employees that“Cell phone use is not permitted ”or “Cell phones are forbidden.”

Electronics may be a way for people to communicate and stay in touch with each other, but the disadvantages may outweigh the benefits. People are losing the ability to hold face-to-face conversations with others. However, it’s hard to avoid electronics in this day and age because almost everything is turning into an electronic format. Books, originally meant for paper design, are now being transferred (转存) to electronic forms. Photo albums, and even yearbooks, can now be viewed via the internet. With this growing trend, future generations are bound to become even more addicted to technology.

Is there a cure for electronic addiction? Simply turning electronics off for an hour or two a day may help to an extent, but it will not completely rid electronic addiction. There only seems to be one cure left, and it may be the hardest: self control.

    【1】What is Plug-in Heroin?

    A.The growing popularity of electronics.

B.The serious consequences of technology use.

    C.The unreasonable dependence on electronics.

D.The future possibility of technology development.

【2】The second paragraph is intended to ________.

    A.show people’s addiction to electronics

    B.persuade people to quit electronics

C.prove electronics are harmful to people

D.tell people it is ridiculous to use electronics

【3】According to the passage, which of the following is true?

A.Cell phones can be used in all kinds of work situations.

B.Overuse of electronic products should be limited.

C.Cell phones and iPads can be freely applied in schools.

D.There’s nothing wrong with using technology, because it's the only way people communicate.

【4】Why is it difficult to avoid electronics nowadays?

A.Fewer choices are left for communication.

B.The design of paper books is less interesting.

C.It is a must to use electronics to keep in touch.

D.Too many things are available in electronic forms.

【5】In the author's opinion, what is the best way to cure electronic addiction?

A.Turn off the electronics for an hour or two.

B.Be stricter about the use of cell phones, iPads and other electronics in classrooms.

    C.Learn to control yourself.

D.Cell phones are forbidden in the workplaces.
