26、First Aid: To the bone
With summer in full swing and kids excited to head outdoors to play, the possibility of getting injured isn’t a distant possibility. When the injury takes a more serious tone, such as a sprain or a fracture, it’s important to know what to do and not to panic.
How do we tell the difference between a sprain and a fracture?
It is difficult to differentiate as both conditions result in swelling around the injury, bruising of the skin and both feel pretty painful. The best thing to do is to treat the injury as if it is a fracture.
How many types of fracture are there?
Generally, there are two types. Closed fracture is when there is a break in the bone but no damage to the skin or tissue. There will be swelling or skin discolouration at the site of the injury and the injured limb (肢体) cannot move. Open or compound fractures are more obvious as there is a break in the bone, bleeding, and an open wound near the fracture. There is a risk of bacteria getting into the bone, which can cause infection, so seek treatment promptly.
What should parents do?
Parents should:
1. Take clothing off the injured area.
2. If there is no open wound, apply an ice pack to relieve pain and swelling.
3. If a bone fracture is suspected, make a simple splint (夹板) with a board or folded newspapers to immobilise the limb.
4. For open fractures, do not wash the wound or push in any bone that’s sticking out as this causes infection. If the wound continues to bleed, use a clean cloth and press the wound to stop the bleeding. Do not straighten the deformed or curved limbs.
5. If the injury is to the head, neck or back, do not move your child and call 999 immediately.

B.By repositioning the broken bone.

27、 Finally, the long-awaited flying car is almost here.
AeroMobil, a Slovakian company, plans to start selling its creation, the AeroMobil 3.0, in 2018.
The company claims on its site that the vehicle “transforms in seconds from an automobile to an airplane” by using “existing infrastructure created for automobiles and planes.” The vehicle is gas-powered and has wings that fold, which allows it to be parked like a car, though it is nearly 20 feet long.
The company’s web site features a video where the AeroMobil 3.0 drives out of a hangar (飞机库) and goes down a highway, sharing the road with regular cars until it arrives at an airstrip. The car then unfolds its wings and takes off from a stretch of grass, rather than a paved tarmac (停机坪) , and flies through the air like any other small airplane.
AeroMobil spokesman Stefan Vadocz said his company hasn’t nailed down an exact price because it’s not ready yet.
“The prototype is a work in progress,” he said in an email. But he said to expect the price to be several hundreds of thousands of euros, somewhere in between a sports car and a light sports aircraft. The vehicle seats two people — the pilot and a passenger — and its single propeller (螺旋桨) is located to the rear of the plane. The company said the car’s top speed on the road is at least 99 mph and while flying is at least 124 mph. It can fly for 435 miles before running out of gas. It has a steel framework and carbon coating and is powered by a Rotax 912, a four-cylinder aircraft engine from BRP of Austria.
Flying cars aren’t exactly new. The concept has been around since long before “The Jetsons” popularized the idea in the 1960s. It’s been a regular topic in Popular Science ever since the famous pilot Eddie Rickenbacker in World War I wrote about it in 1924. But getting a practical, reliable flying car off the ground has been a serious challenge. Glenn Curtiss, a strong competitor of the Wright Brothers, discovered this in 1918 when he developed the Curtiss Autoplane. It turned out to be more of a hopper than a flyer, so it failed to take off with the public.
The AeroMobil 3.0 has at least one competitor, the Terrafugia Transition, which also runs on gas and has folding wings. Terrafugia has said in the past that it plans to release the Transition into the market this year.
【1】The AeroMobil 3.0 has the following features EXCEPT that .

28、 British shoppers buy 2.15 million tonnes of clothing and shoes annually, yet UK citizens have an estimated £30 billion worth of unused clothing gathering dust at the back of the wardrobe(衣柜). But new technology could see the end of that, with the garments themselves giving owners a gentle reminder of their existence.
“Smart clothes” could help us clear out our drawers by sending messages or tweeting us if they haven't been worn for a good while. If these alerts are ignored, the garments will get in touch with a clothing charity and ask to be reused, with an organization automatically sending out donation information. They could also be programmed to put themselves up for auction(拍卖) on eBay.
Academics at Birmingham City University are developing the “connected wardrobe” to encourage more suitable clothes consumption. The concept sees garments tagged(给……加标签) using washable contactless technology, known as radio-frequency identification.
Mark Brill, senior lecturer at Birmingham City, said: “Think of the surprise when an owner suddenly receives bids for items they didn't know were in their wardrobe”.
“The connected wardrobe is a practical, pleasant concept to encourage people to think about their clothing consumption. Finally, I hope it will encourage more appropriate fashion consumption,” He added, “Perhaps we can even move away from the idea of ‘ownership’ of clothing. When we’ve worn them enough, the items will pass themselves on to their next keeper to wear.”
It follows in the footsteps of the “Internet of Things” — a concept that sees ordinary household items connecting to the internet in order to share information. From adjusting your alarm clock to monitoring the temperature of your home, the Internet is changing the way we live.
Now, the “Internet of Clothes” will see that neglected garments will tweet and text the owners “asking” to be worn depending on the weather and frequency of wear. Clothes will keep track of other information such as who owned it previously, as well as how much it originally cost, who made it and how much the worker was paid for it.

29、How to Deal with Exam Stress?
Do you feel nervous when taking exams or do you have a nightmare waiting for exam results?【1】Don’t worry! There are some steps you can take to calm down and reduce your stress.

Get some exercise to relax. You might not feel like hitting the gym or going for a run directly after an exam, but getting some moderate physical activity is a great way to reduce stress!【4】 If you’re stressed out over your exam, try doing exercise like jogging, cycling or even a quick walk. Regular exercise has been shown to decrease tension and improve your sleep.
【5】Regardless of your results, you should celebrate the fact that you have worked hard on your exams. Reward yourself by doing something you enjoy. If you can do it with friends, all the better. Studies have shown that spending time with friends and loved ones is an excellent way to relieve stress and promote a sense of calm and well-being.

It was the annual cleaning day for the family. John and his mom were busy cleaning the house. They cleaned everywhere until everything was spotless. Exhausted, they sank into the couch. Just then, John’s mom noticed an old chair that was faded and worn. That chair was for John’s grandpa, who had lived with them since John’s grandma had died.
“John,” John’s mom sprang to her feet. “Let’s take the chair to the roadside. The garbage truck is picking up on our block tomorrow. ”
However, Grandpa quickly tried to stop them when he happened by.
“But it’s so old…” John’s mom argued. “We’ll buy you a new one.”
“No,” he persisted, trying to push his chair back into place.
John’s mom finally let go of the chair and left. With a sigh of relief, the old man sank into his chair and closed his eyes.
“Grandpa, why won’t you let us get rid of the chair?” John asked.
Grandpa shook his head and said, “I sat in this chair with your grandma right here when I asked her to marry me. And I sat in this chair the night your father was born. Many years later,” Grandpa’s voice broke, “I sat in this chair when the doctor called and told me that your grandma was ill. I was lost without her, but the chair gave me comfort and warmth.” The old man’s sadness seemed to grow as he recalled that fateful day.
“I got it. It is more like a friend.”
“Yes,” Grandpa nodded. “We’ve gone through a lot together.”
However, late that night, John’s mom and dad unconsciously carried the chair outside. It was a starless night. Spring had retreated and snow fell silently from the black sky and covered Grandpa’s chair in a blanket of white.
