  • 21、Are you having so much of work to finish and are unable to keep your home clean and healthy? Don’t worry. Robotic vacuum cleaners are here to help you in cleaning.

The robotic vacuum cleaners are outfitted with sensors, motherboard, Wi-Fi, and lasers to navigate across the home by themselves. They are made so small that they undoubtedly creep under the furniture, cupboards, beds, carpets and so on to detect and clean the dust. Whereas the robotic vacuum cleaners don’t require any help from you you just need to set it and then carry on your work such as cooking painting, office work, etc. as it can efficiently clean without any supervision. If their batteries die off, they will automatically go to the charge station and get charged.

The robotic vacuum cleaners make very little noise when compared to that of the standard vacuum cleaners. To collect all the dirt and grime that has been cleaned, these robotic vacuum cleaners come with a built-in waste bin. You can with no difficulty clean this inbuilt dustbin and can reuse them again and again.

The problematic thing with the standard vacuum cleaner is that the vacuum bags are costly and has to be replaced once in 60 days. That is why it is best to invest your money in purchasing the robotic vacuum cleaner. Its purchase price may be a little high, but once you buy it, the maintenance cost will be decreased with so many other benefits.

There are different types of robotic vacuum cleaners on the market right now in different sizes. Make a wise decision and buy the best robotic vacuum cleaner that can fulfill all your requirements so that you can be happy and hygienic (卫生的).

1The underlined word “navigate” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to____.

    A. plot the path   B. reduce noise

    C. collect information   D. charge the battery

2The robotic vacuum cleaners beat the standard ones in the following aspects EXCEPT that____.

    A. they are cheaper and smaller in size

    B. they cost less for maintenance

    C. they make less noise when working

    D. they are more intelligent and efficient

3Which of the following best summarizes Paragraphs 2 and 3?

    A. The original design of robotic vacuum cleaners.

    B. The technical theory of robotic vacuum cleaners.

    C. The features of robotic vacuum cleaners.

    D. The functions of robotic vacuum cleaners.

  • 22、Christian Clot, an explorer and researcher, who leads the Human Adaptation Institute (HAI), an interesting experiment, Clot was joined by seven other men and seven women who entered Lombrives cave, one of the largest caves in Europe, in mid-March, 2021. The experiment was designed to help answer some big questions, such as “How do humans handle things when they are out in a completely new and unusual situation?” The campers lived inside the dark cave with no connection to the outside world.

One of the most important parts of the “Deep Time” experiment was exploring how our brains keep track of time when there are no outside clues, like clocks or the movement of the sun. The campers were told to sleep and eat whenever they felt like it. Over time, different people developed different schedules. Because there were no clocks, they counted the days based on how many times they had slept. That didn’t match up with time in the outside world. When the 40-day experiment was over, most people thought they’d been in the cave for about 30 days. One man thought that only 23 days had passed.

During their time in the cave, the campers took on different small jobs and projects. Seeing how they worked together was another part of the experiment. For many campers, working on group projects was completely different from what was going on outside, since it was especially hard to set meeting times.

Finally, the campers -wearing sunglasses to protect their eyes -were taken outside to see sunlight for the first time in 40 days. Some of the campers felt ill-adapted to the cave life, but two-thirds of them thought the experience was worth it since they had had a break from their normally busy lives, saying they wished they had a few more days in the cave.

【1】When did the campers most likely leave the cave?

    A.At the end of March.

    B.In early April.

    C.In the middle of April.

    D.In late April.

【2】How did many campers find the teamwork in the cave?

    A.It was useless.

    B.It was normal.

    C.It was difficult.

    D.It was pleasant.

【3】Which word best describes most of the campers’ attitude to the cave experience?

    A.Conservative.

    B.Positive.

    C.Tolerant.

    D.Ambiguous.

【4】What’s the best title for the text?

    A.The Study about Time-separation in a Cave

B.Campers Living in a Cave for a Long Time

C.Feeling Time Patterns by Sleeping in a Cave

Many pets got separated from their families almost two years ago, when Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast. A New Jersey family was one of them. They lost their dog. He got away from their  backyard during the storm.

Chuck James said that his family searched for the brown-and-white dog named Reckless for  months after the October 2012 storm. Reckless was a cute dog which brought much pleasure to the  whole family, and the youngest daughter Tiffany loved him most. They played together, watched TV together, ate popcorn together and Reckless even saw Tiffany off when she headed for the kindergarten every morning. Chuck James kept searching for the lovely dog in every possible way, but no luck

"We reported him missing and called the shelters from time to time, just hoping they had  him," James said. "We always kept our hopes up, but finally it was time to move on.”

James said the family had planned to get a new dog. The dog was to be a tenth birthday surprise for their eldest daughter, Ally. The family of five went to the Monmouth County SPCA( Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) to adopt a new animal. When James and his wife walked  close to the first cage, they saw a familiar face inside.

“He was a little bigger than I remembered because they had fed him well," James joked.  "But then he was lying on my wife's feet and I knew it was him. It was unbelievable. I know this dog is meant to be with our family.”

When SPCA officials asked if they could prove the animal was their dog, a friend sent a selfie showing the family, with their dog before Sandy hit the East Coast.

“We’re all so happy to have him back." James said.  The family is living in hotel while their  home is being repaired. This weekend, the James went on camping trip with Reckless to celebrate the dog’s return

  • 24、How to Plan a Holiday Trip

Each year, millions of people gather their bags and set out on a holiday trip. Whether it’s to grandma’s house, a family reunion or simply a holiday getaway, these yearly trips can often be the source of dread and stress. The thought of being trapped in the car with restless children along the way or the possibility of costly flights is enough to make anyone consider staying home. 【1】

Plan out the route for your car trip. If you’re planning on driving to your holiday destination, a little planning can help make your trip easy and uneventful. 【2】 Remember, it’s likely that you won’t be the only person on the road during the holidays, and traffic is always a factor. Alternate routes or shortcuts can help reduce time spent in traffic jams and get you to your destination sooner. This information can also come in handy in case of road construction or other situations that might block your primary route.

【3】 Although traveling by air instead of car can be much more expensive, it can be quicker and more convenient. Start planning your trip early to take advantage of advance purchase discounts and avoid sold out flights. Many airlines become extremely busy during the holidays so booking in advance can also help ensure that you get the flights that you want. High traffic destinations such as New York, Los Angeles or Atlanta can be extremely crowded during the holidays. 【4】

Consider your luggage needs. If you’re traveling by car, the issue of luggage is only important with regards to the amount of room needed. Before you begin packing, think about how many people will be in your vehicle and how much room they will need to travel comfortably. This could affect the number of bags that you can take along. 【5】 Not only is the possibility of lost luggage an issue, but most airlines now charge extra for checked baggage.

    A.Book airline tickets in advance.

B.Plan your trip to avoid peak travel times.

C.Luckily, with a little planning, these situations can be avoided.

D.As an alternative to driving or flying, check into the possibility of traveling by train.

E.For traveling by air, the number of bags that you take is a much bigger concern.

F.Consider your starting point and desired destination, and investigate several possible routes.

G.If possible, consider booking your flight to a nearby airport and renting a car for the short drive to your destination.
