四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、Procrastination is something that many people have experienced at some point in their life. The word comes from the Latin words “pro” meaning“for”and“cras”meaning “tomorrow”. But it can be more than just putting off work or a later time; it can be about giving up long-term goals for short-term desires(欲望).

A new phrase has been going around Chinese social media lately, with people describing themselves as “active losers”. It means that they set themselves many goals, but they always find excuses, and never really achieve them. In fact, they are just acing serious procrastination.

I once knew someone in my college who had to drop out (退学) because he preferred video games to study. He went to all his classes and was an active member of school clubs. However, his mind was never really on task. He spent all his free time playing games and believed he could still achieve good grades by "finishing the work tomorrow. That “tomorrow”was the end of the semester, and my college had to ask him to “take a break”.

For those of you who think: “ I'll never procrastinate that badly,” I ask you this: “When did you last set a fitness goal? A weight goal? A reading goal? How many years has it been?”Although a fitness goal may not be so important as school grades, it does not mean the goal should drag on for years. So stop making excuses for yourself; take actions right now and achieve your goals.

1The underlined word “procrastination” means _____in Chinese.

    A. 妄想症 B. 拖延症 C. 强迫症 D. 多动症

2We can infer from the second paragraph that active losers are lack of (缺乏) ____.

    A. long-term goals B. short-term desires

    C. proper excuses D. their self-control

3The main idea of Paragraph 3 is ____.

    A. how the student achieved good grades

    B. how procrastination affected the student's life

    C. how the student fought against procrastination

    D. how the student became an active member of school clubs

4The writer advises us to ____.

    A. take a break B. achieve good school grades

    C. set a fitness goal D. start working towards our goals

    5The writer thinks that_____.

    A. active losers never procrastinate

    B. there is no way to control procrastination

    C. some people don't realize that they procrastinate

    D. it's wrong to ask the student in his college to drop out

  • 25、   When you feel a sneeze or cough coming on, covering your mouth prevents the spread of germs(细菌). You probably knew that. But how to cover your mouth is very important. You might use tissues(纸巾), and put your used tissues into the bin. "If you don't have tissues, you should sneeze into your elbow, not your hand even if you are used to doing that. "The doctors advised. "If somebody sneezes into his hands, those germs will be passed on to other people, or other objects that people touch. "said Dr. Hill.

Germs are most commonly spread by sneezing and coughing. When they land on your hands, they are passed from hands to things like money, doorknobs(扶手), elevator buttons(电梯按钮) and other surfaces. At the same time, the people around you can touch them.

This isn't nagging(唠叨), the Centers for Disease Control also suggest that sneezing and coughing into your elbow is necessary. Even the New York City subway officers ask the passengers to "cough or sneeze into elbow or use a tissue".

"The suggestion was taken seriously about 10 years ago. However, most people didn't pay much attention to it. That means the adults may have missed the advice. But children are often taught in school the right way to cough or sneeze. "Dr. Benjamin said.

To be clear, people can't keep away from all the risks in this way, but it's the best choice. At the same time, we'd better wear masks(口罩) and often wash our hands. "Hand washing is one of the most important things people can do to keep healthy. "Dr. Hill said.

1According to this passage, when sneezing or coughing, you'd better not ________.

A.sneeze into your elbow B.cover your mouth with tissues

C.use your hand to cover mouth D.put the used tissues in the bin

2If you sneeze or cough into hands, germs can spread through the following activities EXCEPT ________.

A.push the elevator buttons B.shake hands with each other

C.touch door knobs D.wash our hands

3According to the passage, the wrong statement is that ________.

A.the New York City subway officers ask passengers to use a tissue

B.the adult may be used to sneezing into their elbows

C.the children are often taught in school the right way to cough or sneeze

D.wearing masks is a good way to keep away from germs

4The main purpose of the article is ________.

A.to tell us the correct way to cover mouth when sneezing or coughing

B.to tell us how to prevent the spread of germs

C.to tell us it's necessary to sneeze or cough into elbow

D.to tell us how to keep away from all risks

5In which layout(版面) of the newspaper can we find this kind of passage?

  • 26、“Face it Andy. You sold your soul the day you put on that first pair of Jimmy Choo’s.” That line from the movie The Devil Wears Prada is an example showing how a shoemaker has become famous in the fashion world.

Jimmy Choo (Zhou Yangjie) is a native Malaysian of Chinese origin (出身) born in 1961 into a family of shoemakers. He created his first pair of shoes at age 11. His family couldn’t pay for his schooling so he dropped out at a young age. He had to work with his father to support the family. But his dream to be a fashion designer never disappeared so he did all he could to enter an art college and finally took up a position in the fashion world through his talent and willpower.

Choo graduated from a college in London and had a small workshop there. He hit the international fashion scene when Vogue magazine described his designs in eight pages in 1988. His work was immediately popular and got love and support from Diana Princess of Wales.

Jimmy Choo shoes are known for their very high heels (鞋跟) and pointed toes. However he does some flats and lower-heeled shoes for other women. Choo co-founded Jimmy Choo Ltd. with Tamara Mellon UK Vogue editor but left the company in 2001.

Jimmy Choo shops have opened around the world so his designs are more accessible to those who want a designer shoe and can afford his prices. Choo also has a website where shoppers can view his ready-to-wear designs. The brand (牌子) of Jimmy Choo has been comparable to top brands like Channel LV etc. But it’s still young and has a bright future.

We can’t imagine how hard it is for Choo to stand out in the worldwide fashion! He must have made greater efforts and had more difficulties than others. And so he did. So stop complaining about why good luck isn’t always falling on you and devote yourselves to your work now.

  • 27、We spend hours, days and years of our lives in education. But how perfect do you think your school is? Imagine you could design(设计) your ideal(理想的) school. What would it be like? We wanted to find out what teenagers around the world thought. Here is some designing from four children of different countries.

    Ma, China

My dream school would have an Olympicsize swimming pool, two football pitches and a golf course. It would also have a cinema, a gym, a restaurant and a shopping centre. My school has none of these and I think there should be more enjoyable things for pupils to do while they are studying.

    Sonia, Italy

I'd like a room where we can go and relax and play computer games and chat with friends. Some older pupils in the school have this but I think there should be a place for everyone to go when they want to switch off (转换注意力) from the lessons.

    Richard, USA

I think it would be great to have a day off every week, as well as the weekend. If that day was a Friday or a Monday, we would have a long weekend every week. What fun! I also think school should start later, at about 10 o'clock, and finish earlier. We spend a lot of time at school doing nothing at all. I'm sure we could learn just as much in fewer hours.

    Rebecca, Australia

My dream school would be big and roomy with a computer for every person in the school. I'd also like to have a music room where we can just go and play instruments when we want. We need a recording studio, too. I hope that teachers can respect(尊重) our opinions.
