1、 1. You are sometimes very busy with study, homework and other activities. But there's one thing that American teens over 14 may add to their list: part-time jobs in summer. 2. 人们想知道他们(这些年轻人)对于兼职的想法。Many teens may feel relaxed when they have part-time jobs. Some want to make money for their tuition (学费).
But why do teens do this? Some might want to save money for something big, like buying their own car. 3. Others want to save money because their parents may not afford their tuition. But lately, a lot fewer teens are getting summer jobs. From around 1970-1990, about 50 percent of teens had at least a summer job. But today, only about one third of teens can find summer work.
4. 有兼职对于一个美国年轻人来说是非常不错的。5. They get an idea of what the real world is like, and it will help them get a full-time job later in life.

24、 Grandpa moved in with us after Grandma passed away when I was 9. He came to Canada from China. I never spoke much Mandarin (普通话). Grandpa didn’t speak much English, but it didn’t matter.
One way we bonded was over a game of Monopoly (《大富翁》). He didn’t really understand the rules. But I don’t think it mattered. We always had a great time and a better relationship when we played the game.
I think of Grandpa when I play the trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh with my sons. I can’t keep track of all the spells and effects involved in this game. Truthfully, I don’t care if I win or lose these games. What matters is spending time with my children and making an effort to understand their interests.
I often think about my kids at how excitedly they explain rules and how they go easy on their old man. They’re growing up fast. I imagine it’s like how Grandpa felt when he played Monopoly with us.
Grandpa went for regular walks. He also spent his days sitting on the couch(长沙发)staring out the window and singing quietly. I often thought he was bored. But as I age, I find peace in taking moments to stare out a window. It is really great. Maybe I got that from him.
One of my biggest regrets is not spending more time with Grandpa. The night he passed away was the day before his 80th birthday. I felt very sad.
What I learned from my grandfather was to enjoy simple pleasures in life. Such as seeing the beauty in the colors of the rainbow, seeing a single leaf fall from a tree and playing Yu-Gi-Oh with my sons.

【4】According to the passage, which of the following statement is right?
A.The author can communicate well with his grandfather in English

C.The author understand his grandfather better when he grows older.
D.The author spent a lot of time walking and sitting on the couch with his grandfather.

C.To encourage readers to spend more time with families.

25、 Taking care of pets can be a great way to teach children responsibility, but it's important to be realistic (现实的). If you're keen on bringing an animal into your home and you've designed a plan for its proper care, here are some choices.
• FISH
First-time owners should consider getting cold-water fish as no tank (鱼缸) heater is required. They should research what kinds of fish get along in the same tank, and be aware of life expectancies-some goldfish can live up to 20 years.
• RABBITS
Though rabbits, or nickname bunnies, may seem like a lovely choice, they can live up to ten years and require an amount of care similar to that of a dog or cat. They have their special diet needs, and often don't behave well around small children. Each year, quite a lot of Easter bunnies become homeless when families feel tired of them.
• GUINEAPIGS (豚鼠,荷兰猪)
These small animals are ideal starter pets. Their cages must be cleaned daily, and they require toys to keep their ever growing teeth in check. Once they're used to the new way of life, guinea pigs need daily exercise in a small room without cracks or holes for escape. They don't want to be alone, but if you get two, make sure they're the same sex or they'll have babies.
• BIRDS
Fond of a fixed timetable, birds require feeding at the same time each day. Cages should be cleaned daily and disinfected (消毒) weekly. Birds clean themselves by bathing in dishes of water and grow in cages big enough to spread their wings and fly a short time.

26、In recent history, there have been some amazing inventions which have changed our lives. The plane has made international travel faster and easier. The Internet has brought people closer.
And you must know the names of some famous inventors like Henry Ford and Steve Jobs. But there are many everyday objects which you probably don’t notice and you don’t know who invented them. Take for example Nils Bohlin, who invented the modern-day car seat belt (安全带).
Before 1959, only two-point seat belts were available, and the only people who often wore them were race car drivers. The two-point seat belt couldn’t protect passengers from internal injuries (内伤) during serious car accidents.
In 1958, Bohlin joined Volvo Car Corporation as a safety engineer. He came up with the three-point seat belt to keep passengers from flying out of their cars during collisions. The three-point seat belt used one strap (带子) across the chest (胸部) and another across the legs and then the two joined at the same place. Amazingly, this was a very simple idea which no one tried before.
The three-point seat belt was introduced on Volvo cars in 1959. For more people’s safety, Volvo made the new seat belt design (设计) available to other car makers for free. Since then, engineers have worked to improve the three-point seat belt, but the basic design remains Bohlin’s.
At the time of Bohlin’s death in September 2002, Volvo said that the seat belt had saved more than one million lives since it was introduced.

27、In order to know a foreign language thoroughly, four things are necessary. Firstly, we must be able to understand the language when we hear it spoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it ourselves, correctly, with confidence and without hesitation. Thirdly, we must be able to read the language and fourthly, we must be able to write it.
