  • 1、   There is a tradition at my school that when Changsha High School Entrance Examination is less than a month away, students in the lower grades, from Grade 7 to Grade 8, all gather together on the ground in front of the teaching building and cheer on the Grade 9 students who are standing upstairs.1. It wasn’t until I took part in the activity in person that I understood the true meaning of it.

    2. 那时我上7年级。On that special night, all the Grade 9 students stood in the hallways and looked down at the younger students below. Various cheers started to resound throughout the school, wave after wave. “Believe in yourself! You will succeed!”

Seeing everyone’s smiling face around us,3.我们想起了一句著名的格言。It’s from the American philosopher (哲学家) Henry David Thoreau, 4.“What you get by achieving your goals is not as important as what you become by achieving your goals.

Soon it will be my turn to receive blessing in this way.5. That also means we will have to say goodbye to our school. Although it will be sad, being cheered on by so many students will still be one of the brightest time of my life.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Have you ever thought about making a bicycle that you dream of? Some creative people have invented some special bicycles. Here are three of them.

    Bambikes

Bambikes are produced in a company in Philippines. They are made of an unusual king of bamboo and other materials like metal and a local plant. They are very strong. And they are a perfect combination (结合) of the greenest building material and common bicycles. By making bambikes, the company offers jobs to the local people. Besides, it provides money for some students in its community to pay for their study. To continue the production, the company plants more bamboo than it cuts.

    The heaviest bicycle

A German cycling lover, Frank Dose, has recently made the world’s heaviest bicycle with big old wheels and lots of other waste materials. He created it just because of a bet (打赌) he made with his friend. The bicycle weighed 1.08 tones. It broke the world record of its kind in weight. Frank said his bicycle was surprisingly easy to ride although it had a huge size and weighed a lot. He rode it in front of 5,000 people for over 100 meters to prove it.

    Twisted (变形的) bicycles

Two brothers in France created a bike that looks strange to ride and twists in the middle. Riders can make tight turns (急转弯). The brothers say the bicycle is hard to ride so it can stop people from stealing it. In fact, it isn’t as hard to control as you think. It takes a day or two to get used to the crazy way of riding. It’s amazing. So far, there have 30 of the bicycle, but they are not for sale yet.

    判断下列句子是否符合短文内容,符合的用“A”表示,不符合的用“B”表示。

1Frank built the world’s heaviest bicycle with the material that his friend bought for him.

2Some students in the community can get money from the bambike company to pay for.

3Bambikes are made of a special kind of bamboo and other materials.

4The two brothers rode their bike in front of some people to show how to use them.

530 twisted bicycles were made and sold out.

  • 25、A secret to win

Once a 10-year-old boy decided to learn judo (柔道) though he had lost his left arm in a car accident.

The boy began lessons with an old Japanese sensei, a judo teacher. Three months later, he was still practising with the same move. So he asked, “Sensei, shouldn’t I be learning more moves?”

“This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the sensei replied.

The boy kept training. Months later, the sensei took him to his first match.

Surprisingly, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match was more difficult, but after some time, his opponent (对手) became impatient. The boy used his one move to win the match and now was in the final.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. For a while, the boy seemed to lose the game. Being worried that the boy might get hurt, the referee (裁判) called a break. Just before the referee wanted to end the match, the sensei came to him.

“No,” the sensei said, “let him go on.” Soon after the match began, his opponent made a big mistake: he dropped his guard (防守). Suddenly, the boy won the match.

On the way home, the boy and the sensei talked about every move in each match. Then the boy gathered the courage to ask, “Sensei, how did I win the match with only one move?”

“You won for two reasons,” the sensei answered. “First, you’ve learned one of the most difficult throws in all of judo. Second, the only known guard for that move is for your opponent to catch your left arm.”

【1】How many opponents did the boy face in the story?

    A. Two. B. Three. C. Four.   D. Five.

【2】Why did the boy’s last opponent lose the game?

    A. Because he failed to protect himself in time.

    B. Because he was not strong and experienced enough.

    C. Because the referee ended the match.

    D. Because he was afraid to hurt the boy.

【3】The boy could win all the matches mainly because ______.

    A. his opponents made more mistakes than he did

    B. his opponents were more impatient than he was

    C. the boy was better at guard than his opponents were

    D. the boy’s biggest weakness became his biggest strength

【4】From the passage we can infer that ______.

    A. disabled people are the best ones in learning judo

    B. one can win achievements by keeping practising

    C. it is important to find a good referee to win a match

    D. it is useless to learn too much knowledge and skills

  • 26、Who cares if people think wrongly that the Internet has had more important influences than the washing machines?

Why does it matter that people are more impressed by the most recent changes?

It would not matter if these misjudgments were just a matter of people’s opinions. However, they have real impacts, as they result in misguided use of scarce(稀缺的) resources.

The fascination with the ICT(Information and Communication Technology) revolution, represented by the Internet, has made some rich countries wrongly conclude that making things is so ―yesterday that they should try to live on ideas. This belief in post-industrial society has led those countries to neglect(忽略) their manufacturing sector(制造业) with negative consequences for their economies.

Even more worryingly, the fascination with the Internet by people in rich countries has moved the international community to worry about the digital divide between the rich countries and the poor countries. This has led companies and individuals to donate money to developing countries to buy computer equipment and Internet facilities. The question, however, is whether this is what the developing countries need the most. Perhaps giving money for those less fashionable things such as digging wells, extending electricity networks and making more affordable washing machines would have improved people’s lives more than giving every child a laptop computer or setting up Internet centres in rural villages, I amnot saying that those things are necessarily more important, but many donators have rushed into fancy programmes without carefully assessing the relative long-term costs and benefits of alternative(别的,可替代的) uses of their money.

In yet another example, a fascination with the new has led people to believe that the recent changes in the technologies of communications and transportation are so revolutionary(革命的) that now we live in a borderless world. As a result, in the last twenty years or so, many people have come to believe that whatever change is happening today is the result of great technological progress, going against which will be like trying to turn the clock back. Believing in such a world, many governments have put an end to some of the very necessary regulations on cross-border flows of capital, labour and goods, with poor results.

Understanding technological trends is very important for correctly designing economic policies, both at the national and the international levels, and for making the right career choices at the individual level. However, our fascination with the latest, and our under valuation of what has already become common, can, and has, led us in all sorts of wrong directions.

1Misjudgments on the influences of new technology can lead to   .

A.a lack of confidence in technology B.a slow progress in technology

C.a conflict of public opinions D.a waste of limited resources

2The example in Paragraph 4 suggests that donators should   .

A.take people's essential needs into considerations B.make their programmes attractive to people

C.ensure that each child gets financial support D.provide more affordable internet facilities

3What can we learn from the passage?

A.People should be encouraged to make more donations. B.Traditional technology still has a place nowadays.

C.Making right career choices is crucial to personal success. D.Economic policies should follow technological trends.

4What’s the best title of the passage?

A.The influences of ICT B.The trends of technology

C.The fascination with ICT D.The use of ICT

  • 27、   While you are at the bookstore, you may be faced with a difficult decision: e-books or paper books? Each one has its advantages and disadvantages. Making the best decision depends on many factors.

An e-reader can carry a whole library wherever you go, which is great for travelers or those who always want a choice of reading materials. Although e-readers are convenient, high levels of screen brightness from an electronic device (电子设备)can cause eye problems. A study in the Information Science Research found that young people preferred e-readers, like smart phones or iPads. That’s why most teenagers are short-sighted (近视).

Many book lovers still prefer paper books and value the feeling of them. Paper books are very well designed, they look and smell good, and they carry with them a more human touch. Avid (热衷的) readers prefer reading on paper. Perhaps this is their choice because paper books give them a sense of ownership. It is reported that reading on paper rather than an electronic screen is better for memory and focus. But paper books are heavy and they are not convenient to carry. Which is your decision, an e-book or a paper book?

    根据短文内容选择最佳答案。

1The underlined word “factor” in the passage means “________” in Chinese.

    A.事实 B.因素 C.动力

    A.they always read books

    B.they were born so

C.They often use e-readers like smart phones or iPads.

4Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage?

A.E-readers are convenient for people but they can cause eye problems.

B.All people prefer e-readers, like smart phones or iPads.

C.Reading on paper is better for memory and focus.

5What is the main idea of the passage?

A.The advantages and disadvantages of the e-reads.

B.Factors about decisions on e-readers or paper books.
