About 1,750 such silver dollars were produced that year. But now, only about 150 are known to exist in the world. Luckily, Steven collected one. Even 216 years later, it still looks very fine. So many coin collectors have great interest in it.

22、 A black hole is a place in outer space with very strong gravity. Gravity is a great force(力量) that shapes the universe. On Earth, gravity makes apples fall from trees. It keeps your feet planted on the ground. The gravity in a black hole is much stronger. It is so strong that nothing around it can get away from it, not even light.
Black holes are invisible. We can't actually see them because they don’t throw back light. But scientists can find them with space telescopes (望远镜)and special tools. The strong gravity makes nearby stars move in a certain way. By studying how the stars move, scientists can find out if they are flying around a black hole. Strange things happen around black holes. This makes black holes a popular subject of science fiction(科幻) stories, although they are very unreal.
A black hole forms when a star dies. The star falls in on itself and turns into a very small point. Because of its small size and huge mass(质量), the gravity will be so strong that it will pull light in and become a black hole. Black holes can grow huge as they continue to pull other things in and “eat” them. Many scientists believe that there are super-massive black holes at the center of galaxies, including the Milky Way.
The idea of the black hole was first suggested by two different scientists in the 18th century: John Michelle and Pierre-Simon Laplace. In 1967, a physicist named John Archibald Wheeler came up with the name “black hole”. Studying black holes can tell us many things about our galaxy and help scientists answer questions about the universe.

23、 I know my brother better than anyone else in the world. Since he was born, I’ve been part of his life. I had spent seven happy years in the world with love. But when Rohan was born, life changed. All of a sudden, I had to share my toys and there were no more bedtime stories or my own choice of food.
Finally, I hated this small boy. He had no idea what had made me so unhappy. Maybe he found me strange, the only person in this house who did not like him. Whatever the reason was, he loved following me around. However, I seldom talked to him and always asked him to leave me alone.
Then all that changed. I can’t remember everything of that day six years ago, but I remember that I was feeling very angry. Then I found myself in my brother’s room. I couldn’t help reaching my hand through the bars(栏杆) of his bed. At once, he reached his small hand and softly touched mine. And that was all I needed. Through all the unhappiness of the day, that one moment changed everything. How could I hate someone who made me feel so important? For the first time, I saw my brother through the eyes of a sister. Suddenly I realized love from my family was always with me.
Now, I can’t imagine(想象) life without my brother. It is unbelievable(难以置信的) how much I have learned about life from him. Rohan has taught me that one should not care only for himself.

24、 From deserts and beaches to playgrounds, sand is a common sight. But you might not know that sand is also a useful resources(资源).
Sand is the second most –used resource in the world after water, the BBC reported. However, the UN said that sand is not limitless and that we might be running out of it.
Sand is made up of very small pieces of rock, soil and minerals(矿物质). It can take tens of thousands of years to form(形成). But now we are using sand more quickly than it is being formed. According to the BBC, we use about 15 million tons of sand every year to build houses, roads and other things. That’s enough to build a 20-meter-high by 20-meter-wide wall around the equator(赤道)every year.
People also put sand in the sea to make new islands. Singapore, for example, is now 20 percent bigger than it was in 1965. Palm islands are three large man-made islands in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. They took 94 million cubic meters of sand to build.
If people keep using this much sand, it will run out in many places. For example, Vietnam may run out of construction(建造)sand by 2020, Live Science noted.
Since people need so much sand, they are trying to mine(开采)more of it. But this is bad for the environment. Mining sand may cause beaches to disappear and more floods to happen in places close to the sea. Also, this may affect the habitats(栖息地)of many plants and animals.
