六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   Should children do chores? Some people think that children should not do chores, but many experts believe that children can benefit(受益)from doing chores. They can learn problem-solving and independence from doing chores.

However, most experts agree that the chores should fit the children. For example, young children shouldn’t wash the dishes or take out the rubbish. However, they can do the chores like picking up toys, putting books in the bookcase…to keep the home tidy. In fact, young children usually would like to do chores because they like doing what Mom or Dad does, and that helps them feel more grown-up.

As the children grow older, many experts advise giving them more difficult chores like washing the dishes and walking the dog. However, children usually do not want to do the chores. • 22、   Many ordinary people ranging from volunteers to media workers have dedicated (奉献) themselves to fighting the novel coronavirus. They prove that ordinary people can still do their part during difficult times.

On Feb 12, Dalian (not his real name) was taking a train to Changsha, Hunan, for a business trip. While on the train, he went into a carriage (车厢) to have lunch and chose to remain in the carriage. He did not realize that the carriage was only for people heading to Wuhan.

Several hours later, when the train arrived in Wuhan, Dalian was asked to get off, as he was in the special carriage. Although he was surprised, he didn’t want to cause trouble and got off the carriage with just a single bag.

As Wuhan had been locked down because of the epidemic (疫情), Dalian couldn’t find a hotel to stay in. Feeling at a loss, he saw a notice online looking for volunteers to work in hospitals. The payment was 500 yuan a day. Dalian decided to give it a try.

He soon became a volunteer at Wuhan No. 1 Hospital. He was responsible for taking out trash, mopping () the floor, disinfecting (消毒) the hospital, dealing with used protective suits and bringing meals to patients.

The young man, reportedly from northeast China, had to work 12 hours every day, changing his protective suit three times a day. While working, he couldn’t drink anything or go to the bathroom. He also had to have close contact with infected patients, which is risky.

Dalian was afraid of getting infected at first. “When I entered the wards (病房), I was kind of frozen (僵硬的) and felt like I couldn’t move,” he said. But after seeing more patients get better, his fear gradually went away.

Dalian’s story has since gone viral (走红的) online. People were surprised by his experience, but also described him as having “a heart of gold”.

B.Because he was in the wrong carriage.

C.Because he chose to have lunch in Wuhan.

  • 23、   When I was about 15, I had a chance to perform in a play. How excited I was! So were my parents.

A few days before the show, some of my friends decided to have a picnic at a nearby lake. It was still rather cold. Mother wanted me to stay home so that I might not catch a cold, but I really wanted to go there. After making me promise not to go swimming, she nodded.

But when the others went into the water I couldn’t stand being left behind. I put on my swimsuit, too, and went out in a boat. When at last I went back to shore (), some of the boys began to shake my boat for fun. Just as I was about to reach the shore, it went over. Trying to stay out of the water, I jumped to the shore. I made it-but I landed on a broken bottle. My heel was cut right to the bone.

I didn’t perform in the play, but had to lie in hospital. “But I kept my promise not to go swimming,” I said to Dad. “Mary, you got only half of what your mother said. What she really made you promise was to try not to catch a cold. Going swimming was only part of it. You let yourself hear only part of the truth.”

I made a final excuse, “All my friends thought it would be all right if I stayed in the boat.”

“And they were all wrong, weren’t they?” he said. “You’ll find the world is full of people who think they know better than you. Don’t shut your ears to them. Hear them out, but listen only for the truth and do what you know is the right thing to do.”

It was a painful lesson. But Dad’s advice has returned to me at many important moments in my life. Since that day I’ve never had a better piece of advice.
