21、 Devon Gallagher, a college gradual graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly where she’s been during her worldwide vacation in a special way.
The traveler, who was born with a congenital(先天性的) bone disease, lost her right leg at the age of four. Although she had a hard time at first, she now thinks that nothing can stop her living her best life.
To spread that message, Gallagher shares photos of her travels around the world online, and writes her location across her artificial leg before taking a picture. Now she has been taking pictures across Europe, all with the well-known locations written on her artificial leg.
“I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden idea to get a chalkboard,” Gallagher said, “My mom and grandmother didn’t like the idea, but my friends liked it and told me to go for it, so I did.”
Gallagher said people often stared when she was writing on her leg, but once she shared the photos, she received only positive feedback(积极反馈). “My leg hasn’t stopped me doing anything I’ve wanted to do, and I’ve been able to keep up with my peers(同龄人) and lead a pretty great life.”
Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand in the way of your dreams. And if you run into difficulties, get creative with it----because if life gives you an artificial leg, make art.

22、 Popeye the Sailor first became a popular cartoon in the 1930s. The sailor in that cartoon ate lots of spinach (菠菜) to make him strong. People watched him, and they began to buy and eat a lot more spinach. Popeye helped sell 33 percent more spinach than before! Spinach became a necessary part of many people's diets. Even some children who hated the taste began to eat the vegetable.
Many people thought that the iron in spinach made Popeye strong, but this is not true. Spinach does not have any more iron (铁) than any other green vegetable.
People only thought spinach had a lot of iron because the people who studied the food made a mistake. In the 1890s, a group of people studied what was inside vegetables. This group said that spinach had ten times more iron than it did. The group wrote the number wrong, and everyone accepted it.
Today, we know that the little iron there is in spinach cannot make a difference in how strong a person is. However, spinach does have something else which the body needs-folic acid (叶酸).
It is interesting to point out that folic acid can help make a person strong. Maybe it was really the folic acid that made Popeye strong all along.

23、Long long ago, there was a kind lady. Every day, she baked bread for her family and an extra loaf for any hungry passer-by. She placed the extra bread beside a window. When the woman placed the bread, she always gave a prayer for her son. Her son had gone to a faraway place and she hadn’t heard from his for a very long time.
Every day, a tramp came and took away the bread. He said when he was leaving, “The evil you do remains with you. The good you do comes back to you.”
The woman felt irritated. “Not even a word of thanks”, she said to herself with unhappiness.
This went on, day by day.
Finally, the woman became so angry that she decided to get rid of the tramp. She added poison to the bread she was going to offer to the tramp! When she was placing it, her hands shook. “Look at what I’ve done!” she immediately threw the bread into fire and made another one.
