六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Is food part of the holidays? Different people may have different opinions. Here are some.

Liao: I think there is a really close connection (联系) between festivals and food. My dad is a businessman. He travels on business a lot. He even has to travel during holidays, like Mid-Autumn Festival. But he once told me that as long as he can eat my mom’s homemade mooncakes, he can feel like he’s at home with us.

Zhang: Eating mooncakes during Mid-Autumn Festival drives me crazy! I really don’t like the taste of mooncakes, but Mom forces (强迫) me to eat them every year. But as I eat more mooncakes, I start to hate the holiday! This holiday should be held to celebrate some special person or event, not a food. I don’t want this tasteless food to ruin my holiday anymore.

Chen: In my opinion, eating traditional food during holidays is part of our culture. I remember one time during Lantern Festival, my parents were too busy to bring home any sweet dumplings. Although we still lit up our rabbit lantern that night, I still felt like we didn’t completely celebrate the festival, since we didn’t have any dumplings.

Yuan: In the past, people would usually save precious (珍贵的) food for special days. But now, we can eat it whenever we want. I don’t think it is important to eat traditional food during holidays anymore. We can still do some other things to celebrate, such as watching the moon during Mid-Autumn Festival or remembering Qu Yuan during Dragon Boat Festival.

  • 23、   When we see babies or pets, we can’t help touching them gently to show our love. And they give happy feelings back to us. But a recent study shows that it’s different for plants.

A study in The Plants Journal shows that plants don’t like to be touched. That’s because touching changes their genes (基因), and even worse, it can slow their growth. Professor Jim Whelan in Australia gave an explanation. The lightest touch from a human, an animal, or even plants touching each other in the wild, causes a big gene change in the plant.

In order to test the idea, the scientists did an experiment ( 实验) on plants. They grew a number of plants to the age of four weeks. Then they touched them with a brush every 12 hours over a 36-hour period. They found that as a result of the touch, the mitochondria ( 线粒体) in the plants were partly broken. The mitochondria are the “power-house” of the cells (细胞). The mitochondria produce energy for the cells in both animals and plants. If this “power-house” is broken, the plants will lose lots of energy. The energy is very important for their growth. Whelan further explained, “If the touching is repeated, then the plant growth is slowed by 30 percent.”

Although the touching does have a strong influence (影响) on plants, usually the plants can still be alive. _________________________ Continually touching or moving plants will make them grow shorter than other ones. However, in some ways, this change could be helpful. It may help plants to fight against  threats from animals or bad weather.

The findings of the research ( 研究) help us to have a better understanding of the plants. And the research might help with the growth of plants.

1The writer wrote this article in order to   .

A.stop people from touching plants B.tell people to protect plants

C.introduce (介绍) a scientist to us D.explain a new finding about plants

2What does the underlined word “threats”mean according to the passage?

    A.威胁 B.保护 C.援助 D.改变

A.Touching changes the plants, it makes them grow more slowly until they die.

B.Touching changes the plants, but it’s not always a bad change.

C.We should protect the plants from being touched by humans or animals.

D.Scientists don’t care that touching may have a strong influence on plants at all.

4Which of the following is wrong according to the passage?

A.Babies and pets liked to be touched.

B.The scientist did the experiment to test if touching can change the genes of plants.

C.The experiment lasted for four weeks.

D.Touching plants is not always bad for their growth.
