六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、It is reported that some developed countries have shipped broken parts of computers to China. Such a thing can be found almost every day although it is against international laws. Last month Hong Kong officers found 131,000 kilograms of broken computers, TVs and phones sent from Japan. Things like these are called electronic waste, or e-waste. Dealing with them is not an easy job because dangerous poisons like mercury(汞)and lead(铅)can be found in them. Every time an old computer breaks down, it needs to be dealt with safely. But at present, broken computer parts are usually buried. It may be hundreds of years before they are really gone in the earth.

Many places in China are polluted by e-waste. Guiyu in Guangdong Province is one of them. This town is named as "the e-waste capital of the world". It has to deal with 1.5 million kilograms of e-waste each year, from which it makes 75 million yuan. But it comes at a cost. Many of the poisons in e-waste find their way into the environment. Plastic is burned outdoors and chemical water is poured into rivers. Greenpeace, an environmental group, has found the air, the earth and the rivers in Guiyu badly polluted. The Chinese government wants the country to develop, but in a way that doesn't do harm to the environment and people's life. This year, China passed a new environmental protection law, the strictest one we have ever had. Computer companies like Lenovo and Dell will be asked to take back their old computers. This is because the companies that make computers know best how to deal with them safely. Hopefully, the problem with e-waste will be solved in the near future.

  • 22、   Hi, I’m Tom. When I was about 12 years old, a girl in my class liked to point out my problems. I was too thinI wasn’t a good studentI talked too muchI was too proud and so on. At last, I became very angry and ran to my father.

He listened to me quietly. Then he asked, “Are these things true or not? Do you know what you are really like? Go and make a list of what she said and find the things that are true.”

I did as he told me. To my great surprise,I found that about half of the things were true. Some of them I couldn’t change (like being very thin). But there were things I could and wanted to change. For the first timeI got a clear picture of myself.

I brought the list back to Dad. He didn’t take it. “That’s just for you, ” he said. “You know the truth about yourself better than anyone else. When people say something that is true about youyou should find it helpful.”

Our world is full of people who think they know your problems. Don’t be angry and feel hurt. Listen to them.

  • 23、   Do you want to be a very successful person? Being successful needs a lot, such as knowledge, hard work and maybe sometimes luck. Some experts(专家)share advice on how to become successful. Most experts agree on one thingstarting your day on the right foot is the most important.

Collected from the advice, here are some ideas on how to start your day off right:

Get up an hour early. People who get up early in the morning have a jump on the day. The morning may be the best part of your day when you can do your best work. "The early bird gets the worm." It means that people who get up early have a head start so they are more possible to succeed.

This is not a good way to start your day.

Exercise! Running on the playground with friends may be a great way to start your day. Exercise experts often suggest some exercise in the morning because the middle of the day is busy for most people. By the day's end, you may feel too tired to exercise. How many times have you finished school and said to yourself, "I'm too tired to exercise! I'll do it tomorrow."

Think about your day at night, Take time at the end of the day to think back on all the things that you have done. You probably didn't have time to do everything you planned. But that's fine. If you did one thing, that means you are one step closer in reaching your goals(目标). And spend a little time thinking about tomorrow.
