Twenty-four volunteers will join the training. They all have some experience of keeping dogs and they all love dogs. They will learn a special language first from the coach (教练) and they teach the dogs. This training will take 180 days. Then the better-performed dogs will enter the next training. They will learn to understand different sounds, such as knocking on a door and water boiling. Then the dogs will live with the deaf or the old for 30 days.

  • 22、   I always have these questions in my mind-how does anxiety influence how we think? What classroom environments are most helpful to learning? Most experts agree that having the right team of people to come up with ideas to argue for plays an important role to find out the answers.

However, how do we know who the right people are when making a team? From the classroom and the workplace, to the laboratory and the playing field, research shows that diverse groups of people often make better decisions.

Professor Scott Page believes different ways of thinking from a particular group produces something additional. When people with their own "tools" come together to work on difficult tasks, the results are powerful.

Groups with different genders(性别) also hold merit here. Christine Lagarde said that better decisions are made when women and men come together at the table, creating what she calls a "larger horizon". She mentioned that while women make up only 2% of bank CEOs worldwide, banks who count women among the top leadership are likely to have better economic outcomes( 结果).

In 2010, researchers examined the performance of about 700 people (both men and women), working in groups of two to five, solving both simple and difficult tasks. They discovered that the best predictor of performance wasn't the average intelligence of group members. Instead it was a collective measure of intelligence, which had much to do with the number of women in the group. As women are good at reading others' faces and making the best of different opinions, they help to bring out a more productive outcome.

Finally, it turns out that the size of the group matters, too. Smaller groups can actually be more creative. A new study from University of Chicago found that while bigger teams are important for advancing science, smaller groups help "break it down"-a key part of creativity.

In today's workforce, people come together to cooperate on tough tasks, being encouraged to look to each other. Brainstorming with others in small, diverse groups helps ideas to shine in our mind and, more often than not, leads to the solution. It's a research-driven model for how to develop our collective problem-solving abilities by having the right teams of people producing good ideas worth fighting for.

1The underlined word "diverse groups" in Paragraph 2 probably means "______".

A.groups in which people have a close relation

B.groups with people who like thinking and sharing

C.groups in which people are different from each other

D.groups with people who are good at solving problems

2What can we learn from the research in 2010?

A.Groups with both genders make teamwork more fruitful.

B.Women are better at reading and accepting others' minds.

C.The average intelligence of group members really matters.

D.Banks should depend more on women in decision-making.

3What does the writer mainly want to show us?

A.Women in a group influence the collective intelligence.

B.Different groups of people usually produce different ideas.

C.Diverse teams can be expected to work out better outcomes.

D.The size of the group is important in dealing with problems.

  • 23、   As the novel corona-virus(新型冠状病毒)spreads throughout China and the rest of the world, an important question has yet to be answered:where did the virus come from?

The latest study showed that pangolins(穿山甲)may be an intermediate(中间的)host of virus, according to Xinhua. However, some people thought bats may be the original(起初的)cause.

“We don’t know the source(来源)yet, but it’s possible that this is a bat origin corona-virus, said Peter Dazsak, president of Eco-Health Alliance, an environmental nonprofit(非营利机构)”, according to The New York Times, “When you look at the genetic sequence(基因序列)of the virus, and you match it up with every known corona-virus, the closest ones are from bats.” Dazsak also told CNN.

So why are bats the source of so many deadly kinds of viruses and why don’t they suffer from any symptoms(症状)? Bats can live long and live with millions of other bats in caves, where they can spread the virus far and wide. As the only flying mammal, their body temperature is high, similar to a fever. This fact may lead to bats’ special immune system(免疫系统)in protecting them from the ill effects of viruses.

It’s surprising to notice that the virus outbreak was traced(追溯)to the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan. People could buy no bats in the market. How could this be? “It seems that another animal host is acting as an intermediate host between bats and humans,” said Wu Guizhen, of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Live Science.

But are bats truly to blame(责怪)for the virus or should we be blaming ourselves? It’s the fault(错误)of humans for decreasing(减少)the distance between us and virus-carrying bats. Bats are an important animal in our ecosystem(生态系统)when it comes to pollinating(授粉)many fruits such as mangoes, bananas and avocados. We need to allow them to continue pollination and keep them away from our markets and mouths.

【1】What can we learn about the origin of the novel corona-virus?

A.The virus was found to be genetically similar to those see in bats.

B.Pangolins are now considered the most likely source.

C.It’s confirmed by comparing sources of several different viruses.

D.Bats have been discovered to be its original cause.

    【2】Why don’t bats suffer from the corona-virus?

A.Their low body temperature protects them.

B.Bats have a special immune system.

C.Bats are the only flying mammal to live in groups.

D.Living in caves helps bats fight against viruses.

【3】Which of the following is not true?

A.The intermediate host spreading the virus remains unknown.

B.Bats are the only flying mammal with high body temperature.

C.It’s wrong for us humans to get close to virus-carrying bats and eat them.

D.Bats are the source of deadly kinds of viruses, so we avoid them continuing pollination.

【4】What is the main point the author makes in the last paragraph?

    A.Virus-carrying bats should be killed.

B.Humans should stay away from bats.

C.Bats benefit but also harm our ecosystem.

D.Bats could spread viruses during pollination.

  • 24、I was doing the work in the garden yesterday. It was a soft evening and I was making the most of it when I heard a neighbor’s voice coming from the path out of our garden.

“That’s no place to be sleeping!” he said.

I found there was a man lying on his back on the path with his eyes closed. I recognized him. I had seen him doing the drunkard’s (酒鬼) walk along that path several times.

I stopped to walk out. “Do you need some help?” I asked.

He opened his eyes and said, “Probably.” Then he told me because of arthritis (关节炎) he couldn’t walk well at the most of times. I thought I should do it when he asked to help him go home where he lived a few hundred metres away.

I tried to let him walk under his own strength with me guiding him but that was getting us nowhere. It was easier to carry him, but that would be a real insult (侮辱) to him. So, I held his left hand with my left hand and grabbed his belt with my right hand. Then we started walking slowly.

On the way he told me his name, what he had worked as, what holidays he had been, how wonderful his granddaughter was, what his wife’s name was — and what a hard time she would give him when he got home!

Thank goodness! His wife wasn’t in when we walked forty-five minutes back to his home.

If we wait until we feel good about helping before we help, then people will go unhelped and we will become the ones who end up walking on by.

    【1】When did the story happen?

A.When the writer finished his work.

B.When the writer was walking on the path.

C.When the writer almost ended up his work.

D.When the writer wanted to begin his work.

【2】Who was lying on the path?

    A.A neighbor.

    B.The writer’s wife.

    C.A drunkard.

    D.A gardener.

【3】Why didn’t the writer carry the man?

A.Because he could walk well by himself.

B.Because it would be an insult to him.

C.Because it was only a few hundred metres away.

D.Because his wife would give him a hard time.

【4】According to the passage, which is RIGHT?

A.The man was a talented person.

    B.The man enjoyed having holidays.

C.The man’s wife was always kind to him.

D.The man loved his granddaughter very much.

【5】What does the story want to tell us?

A.Work hard and you’ll have a better life.

B.Give somebody a helping hand in time.

C.Never give up when you meet difficulties.

D.Solve problems by yourself when something happens.
