六、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Does your school have charity sales? Our school had one a few days ago. Students brought many things for the sale. There were novels, magazines, toys, cartoon posters and beautiful candles. Most things were almost brand-new. Many students and teachers bought things at the sale. Wu Zhongyue, a Grade 8 student, found that novels for kids were much cheaper. Four copies written by Zheng Yuanjie cost her 10 yuan. Pan Liqi spent 20 yuan on posters and hoped the money would go to poor kids. At last the sale raised about 6,000 yuan.

The purpose of the sale is to help the children in Africa. Every day hundreds of them die because they have diseases or don’t have enough to eat. First, there is no work for the children’s parents, so they have no money to buy food or medicine. Second, the governments in many African countries are too poor to care for the poor. The land and the weather are bad for farming. There are many organizations trying to help these poor people. The organization we are trying to help, the Feed Africa Fund, spends millions of dollars every year on food for poor people in Africa. This money comes from people like you—kind, generous people who do not want to see children die from hunger.

  • 22、       Last year, Bob visited Vancouver, Canada alone. He went there to give a talk on the environment. When it was over, he traveled to the Rocky Mountains and stayed in the Maple Leaf Hotel. He then took a short walk to look at the local (当地的) plants in the forest. After a few hours, he knew he took the wrong way, but was sure he could get back to the hotel.

However, after walking for several hours the next day, Bob knew he was in trouble. “I had my mobile phone, but the battery (电池) was almost dead. I could probably make just one call. But I didn’t know the number of my hotel and I didn’t want to worry my family unless I really had to,” said Bob. He went on walking for three more days. He knew which plants he could eat and he had little trouble finding them.

On the fourth day, he knew it was hopeless and decided to call his family. “He was quite calm when he spoke to me on the phone,” said Shirley, Bob’s wife (妻子). “He seemed to be in control of the situation.” Shirley called the Maple Leaf Hotel at once. “That week lots of visitors went to the city to watch basketball games, and we thought Mr. Rigsby went there too,” said the hotel owner. As soon as Shirley phoned, the hotel sent out some people to look for Bob. They found him about one hour later, and luckily he was quite unhurt.

  • 23、Imagine you are taking a walk on the beautiful beach. Just then, your feet step over something and you hear a crack(噼啪声)—an empty plastic bottle. Things like this are happening more often because of sea rubbish.

Studies show that 80% of all the waste is from the land. The waste is mainly plastics (塑料制品) which are really hard to degrade(降解). So the rubbish will remain there for a long time. Some of the pollution is caused accidentally. For example, about 10, 000 productfilled boxes are lost at sea every year from business ships. Sometimes people just throw them into the water from boats or land as they like. Many large rubbish areas are formed in the North Pacific Ocean.

Thankfully, the situation isn’t ignored (忽视). Groups like the National Oceanic Atmospheric Association(NOAA) are taking action to help clean the sea. Since 2006, 76 projects have cleared out 3, 814 metric tons (公吨) of rubbish from the sea. Methods of rubbish cleaning include using machines to remove(移除) the waste away from the surface of sea water. Besides, special nets are set by the mouths of rivers to stop the rubbish before it reaches the sea. If everyone does his part, sea rubbish seems like a problem that can be solved.

【1】The sea waste made of ________ will remain for a long time.

    A.paper

    B.wood

    C.plastic

    D.cotton

【2】In the second paragraph we can know ________ are also some of the sea rubbish.

    A.special cleaning nets

    B.large factory machines

    A.stops people from fishing

    B.fights against the sea pollution

    C.develops trade in the seafood

    D.produces new kinds of plastics

【4】In order to ________, some projects are done by the river mouths.

A.prevent the rubbish reaching the sea

B.clean the surface of the dirty sea water

C.build more sea rubbish collecting areas

D.make people care about the environment

【5】According to the passage, we can imagine the future of the sea will be ________.

    B.dark

    C.quiet

    D.hopeful
