二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Sitting in front of the television with snacks after work is a popular entertainment. Thanks to streaming services that play every episode(集) of a television series automatically, viewers don’t even need to reach for the remote control. But is it laziness that keeps us chewing? Or is it possible that the experience of watching TV can stimulate (刺激) our appetite?

According to the Cleveland Clinic, television isn’t so much an appetite stimulant as it is an appetite distraction. When watching TV, we’re engaged in the program, paying less attention to the body signals that tell us we’re full. Instead, we’re engaged in passive consumption.

Combining television and snacking creates a cognitive(认知的) association in your brain that may cause you to consider the two activities intertwined. In other words, you might reach for some pizza not because you’ re hungry, but because you’ve identified television with eating. You might even eat more depending on the length of a program. You might eat less if you were watching a half-hour sitcom rather than a super-sized episode of a drama.

That’s not to say the content of a program isn’t influential. In 2013, a study in the journal Appetite looked at a group of 80 subjects, half of whom were told to watch a cooking program and half of whom were told to watch a nature show. Both groups were presented with equal amounts of chocolate-covered candies. Researchers found that viewers of the cooking show tended to eat more chocolate-covered candies than the nature show viewers.

So is snacking while watching television that bad? Like most things, it’s OK in moderation (适度). Eating meals away from the TV can encourage mindful eating, which directs your attention to the food in front of you. Better yet, you won’t have to struggle to hear your favorite show over all that chewing.

  • 22、18-year-old Alison Sanger is an amazing student. Maybe too amazing— the book opens with Alison lying to her mother about having food poisoning so she can take a test on Shakespeare. More than getting good grades, her true motivation is to beat her opponent, Ethan Molloy.

Ethan has gone toe-to-toe with Alison on everything throughout school. They’re both honors students. They are co-vice presidents of the senior class. They both hope to get into Harvard. The fact that Ethan and Alison seem to always do everything at the same time turned into a competition a long time ago. Whoever does worse on an exam must do an unpleasant task of the winner’s choosing. If someone misses the exam, they forfeit.

This unfriendly competition is so famous that everyone at Fairview knows about it, students and staff. They’re even more annoyed by it than Alison. The principal takes matters in hand by asking the two to co-plan a previous class’s ten-year reunion after someone else dropped the ball. As you might imagine, tensions arise and passion is aroused. In a certain way, What’s Not to Love is a little like The Hunger Games. Like Katniss with Peeta, Alison is constantly evaluating her own emotions against Ethan’s supposed strategy.

While reading this book, I was forced to wonder exactly how healthy this relationship was. I assumed everyone’s intentions in the book were honorable—the authors themselves turned out all right in the end, and I’m incredibly glad for that. Wibbroka fans will not be disappointed—What’s Not to Love is story of soulmates and passion; its short chapters and tight pacing carry the reader along all the way to the satisfying conclusion. Despite its faults—which the text itself calls to attention—fans of enemies-to-lovers stories like How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days will feel right at home here.

【1】Why does Alison lie to her mother?

    A.To treat her food poisoning.

B.To prove that she’s also amazing.

C.To be able to be tested on schedule.

D.To please her friend with good grades.

【2】What does “forfeit” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

    A.Compete.

    B.Withdraw.

    C.Cooperate.

    D.Succeed.

【3】How does the principal’s attempt to help the two girls end?

    A.They prove their abilities separately.

B.They get the final result of their competition.

C.They set up a better relationship between them.

D.They use it as another chance to continue the competition.

【4】What does the author think of the book?

    A.Worth reading.

    B.Useless.

    C.Unreasonable.

    D.Perfect.

  • 23、When slaves were first brought over from West Africa to the southern parts of America, they brought along with them aspects of their own culture-religion, dance, language, music, and cuisine. A mix of the two cultures eventually appeared. The religious dance of the ring shout turned into modern dances like the Charleston, and tribal chants slowly transformed into sorrowful hymns (圣歌) sung by slaves that described their hardships.

These soulful accounts by slaves of the severe climate and conditions began to be called "the blues" ,  which continued in popularity among African Americans after the Civil War. This music increased in popularity into the early 1900s when many black musicians became an important part of the music industry.

The slaves that had been brought over were from all different regions of West Africa, but they worked together until they gradually formed a common culture. This strengthened the identity of their music that, in the 1950s, eventually led to the beginning of rock and roll. The Beatles, the most influential band of the 1960s, are often determined as the accelerator that resulted in the ideology (意识形态)surrounding music that is still around today. The freedom and individuality associated with that time period brought forth a whole culture surrounding music. It was not just music any more, but a lifestyle.

Over the decades, music has developed into such a vital part of society and pop culture. Musicians arc glorified, with tons of adoring and screaming fans. The modern technology of present day has allowed for a greater gap between the creator of the music and the fans, as well as a widespread commercialization of music.  However, criticisms of modern pop music often arise due to its mass production, and now there is a lack of the same soul and quality of naturalness and simplicity in music that was rising in the early 20th century.

【1】What contributed to the birth of the Charleston?

    A. Various African religions.

    B. People's love of tribal dances.

C.A mix of two different cultures.

    D. The popularity of sorrowful hymns.

【2According to the passage, what can we learn about the blues?

    A. It became popular in the late 20th century.

    B.  It may include the description of slaves' sad lives.

    C. It mainly told the stories of the American Civil War.

    D. It reflected the hard lives of many black musicians.

【3What does the underlined word "this” in the third paragraph refer to?

    A. Slaves' collective work.

    B. One region of West Africa.

    C. The new common culture.

    D. The music by the Beatles.

【4It can be learned that the music in the early 20th century____.

    A. possessed soul and sincerity

    B. became more commercialized

    C. was blamed for its mass production

I). widened the gap between musicians and fans

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My friend Ollie and I had been so excited to go to a winter break karate (空手道) camp. But at the last minute, Ollie had to drop out. I wanted to quit, too, but Ollie told me I would make many new friends there.

When I arrived, I did feel calmer. Unfortunately, I felt worse again the moment I realized that most of the kids already knew each other.

At lunchtime, a boy named Jack at our table said, “When we’re on the trampoline (蹦床) tomorrow, Tm going to try that kick we just learned.” I was confused. Why was he talking about a trampoline at a karate camp? “Wait, you do know that this camp has trampoline time every other day, right?” Jack said “Oh, of course!” I said, swallowing down a bite of my sandwich. “That’s cool. Who wants to have a contest tomorrow to see who can do the best trampoline tricks?” Tyler laughed. All the kids were excited to join. “What about you? You do know some trampoline tricks, right?” Tyler asked me. “Um, sure I do,” I said. “I’m in too!”

I really didn’t mean to tell a lie. It just happened! Maybe I was too eager to be perfect. After that, I felt tom in half. I wanted to keep going to the karate camp. But how could I face my new friends once they found out the truth? IM never even been on a trampoline before, not to mention knowing any tricks.

As I got home that day, I went straight to my bedroom. Since I didn’t have a trampoline to practice on, I jumped on the bed. CRASH! I quickly fell off, hitting my desk and breaking my study lamp. Just then my friend Ollie came over to my home and I told him everything. “You always put pressure on yourself to be the best.” he said, “Try being honest with them. What’s wrong with being a beginner once in a while?” His words changed everything.

    2.词数100左右;
