  • 21、Here we’ve got three tips to help you start an exercise habit that can stick. It’s a lot easier than you think.

    【1】

You don’t have to be a marathoner to get meaningful health benefits from exercise. Experts say even daily activities, which include mopping the floor, organizing a room or carrying groceries up the stairs can reduce the risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers.

So remind yourself that it’s not a choice between hours-long workout or nothing at all. Instead, think of starting an exercise routine like standing up from your chair and sitting back down repeatedly. 【2】

Focus on how exercise makes you feel great

There are so many positives that happen when you move. It improves all the tasks that demand focus and creativity. It helps you generate energy. It boosts mood. 【3】. When you feel better, you will bring more enthusiasm and energy to your work and the people working around you.

Forget long- term benefits like weight loss or better overall health. 【4】. Actually, they’re not super motivational in real-time and can be disheartening when you don’t see results quickly.

Figure out what kind of exercise and workout location makes you feel good

If weightlifting in a crowded gym gives you anxiety, try to get a set of weights for home or follow workout videos on YouTube or ride a bike in the park. 【5】.

A.Start small and every movement counts

B.They often take much longer time to achieve

C.Focus on immediate payoffs like improved mood and energy

D.In short, any movement helps to clear fat and sugar out of blood

E.Remember, when you have more energy, you’re a happier person

F.Keep trying until you find a workout routine that makes you happy

G.No matter how modest those goals are, they create this feeling like I can do more

  • 22、World Elephant Day is the perfect time to find out more about these amazing animals and what we can do to preserve them so they do not go the way of the mammoth(猛犸象).

World Elephant Day was created in 2011 by two Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims and Thailand’s Elephant Reintroduction Foundation and was first celebrated on August 12, 2012. They made the documentary Return to the Forest, a fascinating 30 minute film about the reintroduction of caught Asian elephants to the wild.

Currently, the demand for ivory(象牙)is becoming bigger and bigger, whose price is higher than that of gold, making elephants bigger targets than ever. Habitation loss is also a danger to the world’s elephant population as it robs elephants of the hundreds of pounds of food they need every day, making it more difficult for them to breed and making it easier for hunters to track them down. Circuses and tourism are also serious threats to the animals’ well-being.

The best way to celebrate this day is to take the opportunity to educate yourself about these magnificent(巨大的)mammals and share your knowledge with others. As ever, simply spreading the word about the dangers these magnificent mammals face via social media can actually make a real change. Expose that “training” elephants often involves tying and beating them daily for months on end. If you want to get a bit more involved, you could choose to make a donation to a foundation dedicated to protecting elephants from hunters or relocating them to locations better suited to their needs.

Whichever way suits you best, make sure that you spend this day in a way that helps elephants all over the world, so we, in turn, can continue to wonder at them and their uniquely fascinating way of life.

1What is the main purpose of World Elephant Day?

    A. To collect donations for elephants.

    B. To do researchers on elephants’ life.

    C. To protect the elephants from extinction.

    D. To make films about all kinds of elephants.

2Which of the following is the biggest threat to elephants?

    A. Human being.

    B. Severe climate.

    C. Natural environment.

    D. Limited food resource.

3What does the author advise doing to celebrate World Elephant Day?

    A. Watching the elephant shows.

    B. Making your own films about elephants.

    C. Appealing to focus on elephant protection.

    D. Traveling to Thailand to ride trained elephants.

4According to the text, what is the best way to protect elephants?

    A. Supplying enough food for elephants.

    B. Catching and raising elephants in the cages.

    C. Replacing elephants in suitable wild habitations.

    D. Attracting elephants to live together with human beings.

  • 23、   Students at Empire High School started class with no text books-but it wasn't because of money problems.

Instead, the school gave iBbooks-laptop computers to each of its 340 students, becoming one of the first US public schools to stop printed textbooks.

School officials believe that the electronic materials will make students enjoy learning more Empire High School was designed to have a textbook-free environment.

Students at Empire High School get the materials over the school's Internet network. The school has a central control system that limits what can be downloaded at the school.

“Students can hand in homework online. We have a web program that helps to check if you copy from others,” the headmaster Baker said.

In addition to offering up-to-date information, teachers can make the lessons more enjoyable. For example, lessons in history can include links to a person's daily life, his ideas, his discovery, and so on.

Social studies teacher Jeremy Gypton said the change was easier than expected. Gypton said he assigned reading based on websites, used online groups and message boards to keep the students connected. And he also asked them to comment on each other's work.

Julian Tarazon, a new student, said that it was kind of hard at first, because you had to put things in folders(文件夹). But after a couple of days, you got used to it. Another student Morgan Northcutt said the computer system had made it easier to do homework.

The school isn't completely paperless, however. It has a library, and students can read books in it.

“We're not trying to get rid of book,” Baker said. “We love books.”

1What can a central control system help to control?

A.What to download. B.Why to download.

C.How to download. D.How much to download.

2What is the biggest advantage of the homework online?

  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Last Thursday, my husband Robin and I invited some of our friends for dinner.

Just before I left work, Robin called me and said that he had to stay late at work, which meant that I had to prepare everything for the night on my own. Realizng that I didn’t have too much time, I could feel my anger rising as I drove to pick up Jason and Michael from school. After they got into the car, I informed them that we would stop on the halfway to buy something, and that they needed to help me tidy the house when we got home.

Both of the boys started complaining. I warned them that I was not in the mood to listen. They crossed their arms and became angry. For the next hour, I dragged them from one place to the next. The more I needed them to hurry, the more distracted (分心的) and silly they became. My patience was wearing thin.

Just as we finished our last task, the boys reminded me that we needed to stop at the pet store to pick up crickets (蟋蟀) for their pet lizards (蜥蜴).“You promised that you would buy crickets for us, and you shouldn’t break your promise,” Jason said. “Fine! But we need to be fast,”I replied impatiently, and then we raced to the pet shop.

Fifteen minutes later, we were back in the car with some new passengers: one hundred live crickets in a plastic bag. I pulled the car into the driveway and there was only forty-five minutes left to unpack the car, clean the house, and set the table before my guests arrived. How would I make it?

After returning home, I started barking out orders, but the boys were pouring the crickets from the plastic bag into the box that they prepared and they obviously ignored my orders.

My anger swept over me, and I shouted at them to hurry up, but they didn’t listen.

    注意:

    1.续写词数应为150左右;

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
