24、When we interviewed what the life was like more than 70 years ago, many old soldiers were full of tears in their eyes. They told us that they never forgot those days when they were in the army, during which they lived hard lives but spared no effort to fight against the enemies.
Now in the year 2015 comes the first great parade(阅兵) in the 21st century. September 3rd is the 70th anniversary(纪念) of the victory of the anti-fascist (反法西斯主义的) war. This day is considered as an important moment for China, as well as the world. 49 countries from all over the world, including South Korea and some European countries attended this special occasion.
In preparation for the parade, the soldiers worked hard every day. In order to walk well in the three hundred meters distance on the Tian’anmen Square, they had to receive extremely strict training. Each day, they got up early in the morning and started the 10 hours’ practice.
When a reporter arrived, it was raining heavily outside, but none of the soldiers stopped training. Nothing can stop their training, and no one can stop their deep love to their motherland.
The reporter asked, “The training is so hard but why does nobody give up?” “It’s the first time for me to join in such an important ceremony. I consider it a great honor. I must try my best.” One of the participants(参与者) answered. In fact, everyone takes pride in taking part in this big parade because they want to show the spirit of Chinese army, the power of Chinese army, as well as the determination of keeping the world in peace.
From the soldiers, we learned the power of dreams. If one has a dream, he will get over any difficulties that get in the way to make the dream come true.

25、 I love my iPhone-It’s my little connection to the larger world that can go anywhere with me. I also love my computer, as it holds all of my writing and thoughts. Despite this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices(设备) and truly communicate with others.
I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers. My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas. Because I want students to carefully study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the classroom. I have a rule-no computers, iPads or phones. When students were told my rule in advance of the class, some of them were not happy.
Most students bet that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There’s a bit of truth to that. Some students guess that I am anti-technology. There’s no truth in that at all. I love technology and try to keep up with it.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are few places in which we can have deep conversations and truly engage complex(复杂的) ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and make connections between the course, the material and the class discussion.
I’ve been teaching my history class in this way for many years and my students gradually realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.
I’m not saying that I won’t ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change. I’m sticking to my plan. A few hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.
【1】Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with________?
A.the course material B.others’ misuse of technology
C.discussion topics D.the author’s class rule
【2】The underlined word “engage” in Para.4 probably means ________?

C.help students to better understand complex themes
D.affect students’ concentration on the course
【4】It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author ________.
A.will never change his idea B.will give up teaching history
C.will change his teaching plan soon D.values technology-free dialogues in his class
26、Are you wearing old clothes?
Don’t worry if you are. Clothes bought at thrift shops are more popular than ever in the West nowadays.
A lot of young people have an interest in secondhand clothing.
Goodwill Industries, one of the most famous secondhand shopping companies in the US, said there had been an increase of 84 percent in money made from the sale of donated goods from 2007 to 2012, from $1.9 billion(about 13 billion yuan) to $3.5 billion.
Fanny Moizant, an online group that sells used clothes from luxury brands(奢侈品牌), agrees that “secondhand” is part of fashion now.
“Fashion has changed,” she told the Financial Times last month.” People need our service ----they need a place to let go and get rid of this excess(过剩).”
It wasn’t always this way. Secondhand clothes used to be much less popular.
Keren Charles, 37, from the US, remembers how embarrassed she was the first time she entered a thrift store more than 20 years ago.
“I didn’t want anyone to see me,” Charles told CNN. “In high school, people thought you were either poor or homeless.”
Now, the fashion fan says about 97 percent of her clothes are secondhand. Her favorite find is a $5 blue evening dress that could be worth hundreds of dollars.
So what is a thrift shop, exactly?
According to the US Association of Resale Professionals, a thrift shop is run by a not-for –profit(非盈利的)organization to get money to charitable causes.
The shops have become popular in recent times due to economic reasons.
More customers began coming to thrift shops in the US at the start of the recession(萧条), according to CNN.
And now secondhand clothing and vintage items are showing up in Western high fashion and street wear.
Fashionable hip-hop artist Macklemore and Ryan Lewis even wore a 2013 Billboard Music Award for their hit song Thrift Shop. The song is about “looking for a come up”(search for cheap things in a thrift store.
However, thrift store culture may be great for new shoppers and for business but it’s not so great for shoppers like Charles who are still “looking for a come up.”
“The competition is tough now,” she told CNN. “You’re in the thrift stores, and you’re seeing so many other people, but it’s still better than shopping at a department store.”
