24、When movie star Scarlett Johansson was photographed naming in Los Angeles recently, she attracted a lot of attention; for the 27-year-old actress was wearing Vibram FiveFingers, so called because they look more like gloves than shoes, with a space for each toe.
Strange though they may look, these so-called barefoot shoes, which reproduce the effect of barefoot running but with less pain, are just one brand in a range of minimalist footwear. These super-thin sports shoes are causing a stir in the world of running and fitness. Why? Because some experts believe they could make you a better, more efficient runner and that traditional trainers could be doing you more harm than good.
"Wearing a shoe that has lots of cushioning and support affects the way your body naturally moves and studies suggest that this carries a higher risk of injury," explains Matt Wallden, an athlete performance expert. "But with barefoot shoes, the foot can actually feel the firmness and shape of the ground, which allows your body to respond effectively.’"
But before you rush out to invest in minimalist footwear, be careful. These kinds of shoes are not meant for everyone, or at least not straight away.
"Ordinary sports shoes with support are good for beginners whose bodies are not used to the impact of running," explains Patrick Davoren, former Olympic athlete. "It you are not in great condition, then running in minimalist footwear may cause injuries and will turn a lot of people off exercise and running.
If you are currently injured, and figures show that in any given year 65% of all runners are, it can be tempting to try anything that promises to get you back on the road, trail, or beach. But barefoot running is not a method of treating injury nor is it a magical way of suddenly turning you into a great athlete.
Even if you’re used to running, when you start using minimalist shoes you should build up your distance gradually. Start_off’by doing just 10% of what you’d normally run and increase the distance by no more than 10% every week. And a word of warning - you may never have soft feet again

25、One day, a young man visited a small farm in the countryside. As he got closer to the farm, he saw many chickens and an eagle (鹰) playing together.
He then went up to the farm house and talked to the farmer. “Sir, I was just passing by and I saw that you have many chickens and an eagle.” The farmer smiled and said, “That’s not an eagle. It’s a chicken.” The young man kept saying that it was an eagle. He said to the farmer, “Sir, that is an eagle! I can prove (证明) it to you.” The farmer laughed, “Sure, go ahead.”

26、 “All right, are you ready? Okay, the camera’s rolling.” I was really realizing my dream. I stood inside the empty school hallway on a spring afternoon. In my slightly shaking hand, I held the script On Patrol. “For this scene,” I explained, “all I need you to do is walk quietly.” In front of the camera was my best friend, Gavin, wearing a blue uniform. “Would it be funnier if I looked into the camera?” Gavin suggested. “Hmm.” I said. “Yeah, you’re right. Let’s do it that way.” This was certainly not a Hollywood blockbuster. I didn’t have a producer, a script director, or even something as simple as a light setup. The only equipment (设备) I had was my camera and my tripod (三脚架), but they were enough to make my dream come true. “Okay, are you good?” I asked. Gavin nodded his head. “Okay. Action!” I said.
Since my preschool years, movies have been my life. Some people may think back to their childhood as they hear the sound of table tennis or see a baseball flying into the blue sky during a backyard game, Some people may smell the salty air of the ocean during a family vacation. As for me, I hear the sound of the video recorder, as it replays the tape of a video. The movie I watched most as a child was Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. From then on, I watched as many movies as I could. When I began high school, I was wondering what I should choose as a job. After months of not having any idea of what I would become, an idea appeared: if I love movies so much, why not make it a career? I began to write my first short film, On Patrol, a ten-minute silent video about a hall monitor trying to stop someone from throwing rubbish at a school. After I finished my first script, I was very excited. Then I was thinking, “Now it is up to me to make my first movie.”
It was not a famous movie, but it was my step-ping-stone. Now looking back at On Patrol still gives me a dream that could direct more good movies. Watching my first movie not only gives me a laugh, but also gives me the encouragement to continue running after a love I have had since I put Spider-Man into my video recorder many years ago.
