一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

It’s said that after working and studying for a long time, having some dessert can help us forget tiredness. Are you a dessert lover? What’s your favorite dessert? Have you ever heard of a traditional dessert called Fried Chop Rice Cake(驴打滚)?

The dessert is also named Lü Da Gun in Chinese. And it is one of the most popular snacks in Beijing. Its name is very interesting, isn’t it? But it has nothing to do with donkeys(驴). 1.It is a kind of handmade cake that tastes sweet and delicious. Why do Chinese people call it Lü Da Gun?

Here is a story about it. It’s believed that in the Qing Dynasty, Empress Dowager Cixi(慈禧太后) was tired of having the same kind of food every day. So, one day, a chef(厨师) was called to the palace. Cixi told her needs to the chef and ordered him to cook something different. 2.However, it’s too difficult for the chef to meet these needs. After thinking carefully, he made a new kind of cake by using rice powder and red bean paste(糯米粉和豆沙馅).

However, a boy came to the kitchen. Before the chef warned him, the boy had dropped the cake into soybean powder(黄豆面) by accident. 3.厨师很担心因为要做一个新的蛋糕太迟了。He had no choice but to take the cake to Empress Dowager Cixi nervously.

4.令他惊讶的是,慈禧非常喜欢他的糕点。 His bad luck unexpectedly turned into good things. She asked the chef what the name of the cake was. The chef had thought about that. Suddenly, he thought of the name of the little boy — “Xiao Lür’. So he said that the cake’s name was Lü Da Gun.

Since then, Lü Da Gun has won the hearts of foodies(美食家) for its special taste and funny name. 5.Many visitors see it as a must-eat food when traveling to Beijing. Would you like to try it?

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、What do you think of black cats? Are they unluckier than cats of other colors? Many people in Western countries think so. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley), did a study on cat colours and people’s understandings of cat personalities.

The study found that people do judge(判断) cat personalities by color. Scientists did a survey(调查) on the Internet. There were 49 statements (描述) matching five cat colorings with 10 personalities. People think orange and bi-colored (双色的) cats are friendly, tri-colored (三色的) cats are not generous, and white cats are calm, lazy and shy. As for black cats, people think they don’t have special personalities.

But why do so many people dislike keeping black cats as pets? People think black cats have less special personalities, which might be because of their bad reputation (口碑). They think black cats may bring bad luck, especially at Halloween. Movies and television shows also make people believe that.

Although people have these ideas, UC Berkeley scientists give another reason: people don’t think black cats are pretty enough. After all, nothing can show black cats are unluckier than other cats. “You can’t judge a cat by its color, because it’s the personality of the cat, not the color, that will let you know if the cat is right for you,” Cathy Marden, a scientist said.

    A. black cats have special personalities

    B. orange and bi-colored cats are generous

    C. cats with three colors are friendly

    D. white cats are calm, lazy and shy

    A. black cats often appear in TV shows

Some of his friends visited him a few days after he got back. “I had a very dangerous trip while I was in Russia,” Jack said to them. “I wanted to see a friend of mine in the country and the bad weather made me very late. So I was still traveling through a forest in a sleigh(雪橇) when the sun went down. It was a long way from my friend’s house when about twenty wolves began to follow my sleigh. It was very dark in the forest. There was thick snow on the ground. It was cold, and there were no houses for miles and miles. First I heard the wolves. The noise was terrible! The horses heard them, too. They were frightened and began running faster. Then I saw long, gray forms among the trees, and soon the wolves were near us. • 27、The other day I came across a few local musicians and happened to hear them talking:

"I hate all the terrible pianos in this town. I hate that rubbish they play on the radio. They can't even understand a bit of music."

"I'm never playing in that club again. Too many drunks and nobody listens to us."

But one younger musician said, "There are a few clubs that book my band (乐队) a few nights a month, and I'm trying to find other places to play. I'm also looking forward to booking a few summer festivals this year."

It's said that you are the average (平均) of the five people whom you spend the most time with, or to put it another way, you are who your friends are.

Attitudes(态度) are important. Whether they're positive(积极的)or negative (消极的),_____________If you're always around people who complain about short of work and about other musicians or say bad words about others, and you play the role of a victim, it's possible that you will start to as well. So it's time to take a look at the people you call "friends", as what kind of friends you have decides what kind of life you are going to live.

This is an easy exercise: Make a list of the people who you often go out with, and simply stop spending time with the negative people on your list. Set a new standard for yourself and don't become friends with people who fall below that standard.

Keep successful people around you and your own chances for success will be much better. Ask them how they do it and learn from them. Ask if they will help you get the work you're looking for, or maybe give you some advice to help you on your career path.

1The musicians' words at the beginning are written mainly to show_______.

    A. the musicians live a poor life

    B. people have poor taste in music

    C. people have different attitudes towards the same thing

    D. young people have greater chances of succeeding

2The underlined sentence "they'll rubbing off on you" in Paragraph 6. means_______.

    A. they'll push you ahead

    B. they'll have an influence on you

    C. they'll cover your feelings

    D. they'll help you succeed

3By taking the exercise mentioned in Paragraph 7, you can_______.

    A. improve a lot in making more friends

    B. plan the time with your friends properly

    C. develop a better relationship with your friends

    D. come to the right way of making friends

4Which of the following would be the best title for this passage?

    A. You are who your friends are.

    B. How to make friendship long.

    C. A friend in need is a friend indeed.

    D. Friends are the most important in one's success.

    Finding the Awesomeness

My family hadn’t done anything different for long. So when my aunt invited us to her farm for a spring celebration last month, I was so excited that I decided to make some special cupcakes.

On that day, everything went wrong. First we had to wait for Ted to find his shoes. On the half way, we had to go back to the house as Mom ________ her wallet at home. Then, we drove far to find a restroom for Indi. After that, my parents decided to take a shortcut, which ended up turning into a long cut! We were driving forever on a winding road when our car started making a strange noise.

“Sorry,” said my mom. “We have to pull over and call roadside service.”

“Don’t worry,” said Dad. “I’m sure ________ will come soon.”

Actually, help did not arrive soon at all.

“We’re going to ________ everything!” said Ted.

    I just sighed (叹气).

“Look on the bright side,” said Dad. “Our car couldn’t have picked a ________ place to break down.” It was true. There were various wildflowers dancing on the sea of grass, with strong trees as their guards.

Mom got the picnic blanket out. “How about walking over to that wildflower field and have our own ________ ?”

At first, we kids weren’t exactly jumping up and down about the idea. But as we looked around, cool things started happening.

“Hey!” Indi said. “This huge butterfly ________ on my knee! She’s so beautiful.”

“Look!” Mom pointed at two cute rabbits happily eating grass. “We’re not the only ones who think this is a good spot for a ________.”

Just then, we noticed hundreds of birds rose up out of the trees and flew into the sky in the most amazing patterns!

“Wow! That’s the most magical thing I’ve ever seen!” said Ted.

Finally, we didn’t make it to the farm, and we ate my cupcakes — they were so delicious!

Sometimes you can get discouraged, but do not give up! Try to stay ________ to what’s happening around you! You might just discover unexpected awesomeness right under your nose!
