On Nov.16, seven astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) woke up to an alarm (警报). A Russian missile (导弹) test had just bombed a satellite into more than 1,500 pieces of space debris (残骸). Some got very close to the ISS.
NASA says space debris like this can travel at more than 28,000 km/h. That’s much faster than a bullet (子弹) (about 3,500 km/h). Even a pea-sized piece of debris could “wipe out” a space station or kill an astronaut if he or she is doing a spacewalk, says Live Science.
Since the 1950s, humans have sent thousands of rockets and satellites into space. Many are still there, and we now face an ever-increasing problem of space rubbish. In 2006, for example, National Geographic reported that a tiny piece of space rubbish hit the ISS, taking a small piece of glass out of a window. In June of this year, a piece of debris ran into one of the station’s robotic arms, which are just like the arms of a robot, and left a hole.
Scientists are trying different ways to deal with the problem. One way is to use a huge net. In 2018, the UK’s Survey Space Center caught some space rubbish with a net in an experiment. It first found the debris, and then collected it with a net and a harpoon (鱼叉).
Another way is to use robotic arms. Clear Space 1, the European Space Agency’s task to clean space rubbish, is going to be sent into space in 2025. It will use robotic arms to catch debris. This plans to throw the debris into Earth’s atmosphere (大气层), where it will burn up as it falls because of strong friction (摩擦).
【1】The bomb of the Russian missile mainly causes ________ according to the article.
A.plants

【2】According to NASA, space debris moves ________ as fast as a bullet.
A.eight times

【3】What happens to a space station if it gets “wiped out”?
A.It gets cleaned.
B.It gets rebuilt.
C.It gets broken.
D.It gets old.
【4】The best ways to deal with space debris is ________ according to the article.
a. throwing it away into the planet
b. throwing it into the sun to burn up
c. collecting it with nets and harpoons

A.ad
B.cd

D.bd
【5】What can we infer from Paragraph 3-4?
A.There is nothing we can do to deal with space debris.

C.More and more tasks are failing because we don’t want to cause space rubbish.
D.Thousands of old rockets and satellites are turning into space rubbish for years.
25、Morison and Philip were classmates. They lived in the same town. After they left school, Morison became the manager of a flower shop and Philip became a doctor in a hospital.
Philip made a girlfriend. He bought a red rose for her each day to show his love. The flowers made her very happy. Sometimes he took the rose to her himself. But when he was busy in the hospital, he asked Morison to give the rose to her instead of him.
One morning, Philip came into the flower shop and said to Morison. “I’ll go to another town to work today. I have no time to give the letter and the flowers to my girlfriend. Please give her the letter and twenty- four roses.”
In the evening, when Morison was closing the door of the shop, Philip came. “Morison, how many roses did you give my girlfriend this morning?” asked Philip angrily.
“I gave her thirty,” answered Morison.
“Why did you do that?” asked Philip.
“I thought you often bought roses for her in my shop. I want to give her six roses as the gifts. Six is a good number, you know,” said Morison.
“How foolish you are!” He threw his letter on the table. “Read it!”
Morison picked it up and began to read:
Dear Mimi,
I love you very much. Today is your birthday. Please accept my present- some roses, one rose is a year. And the roses are your age.
Yours,
Philip

26、My grandmother complains about how things have changed and she says that life used to be better.
Families aren’t families the way they used to be. If the husband and the wife have problems with their marriage, they don’t stay together any more. And mothers used to stay at home and take care of their children, but now many of them don’t do so any more. Almost everyone is working. Most mothers don’t have time for their children.
And the cars! Few people walk now. Everyone is trying to drive. We used to walk five miles to school every day, even in winter.
And in school, children don’t have to think any more. In a math class, they often use calculators(计算器).
Most families have computers now. In my days, we didn’t have computers. We didn’t even have electricity. My mother used to spend much time cooking in the kitchen. Now fewer people eat home-cooked food. They often go out to eat.
And many people don’t talk to each other any more. They are too busy to talk, too busy to eat, too busy to think.
Life used to be simple, but it isn’t any more.

Mr. McCorpuodale lives in London. On one of the walls in his room, you can see a large map of the world. Naturally, Mr. McCorpuodale has his favorite places. New Zealand, he describes as “a wonderful country”. About China, he says, “This is the country in the world which is completely different. There is no European influence. ”
Wherever he goes, Mr. McCorpuodale takes with him a photo of his wife, a candle, a shirt with a secret pocket and a pen.
