四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   In Hong Kong, most schools are very strict about what students wear to school. For example, they do not allow students to wear any kind of accessories, such as necklaces or earrings. Some people argue that small items, like simple earrings, should be acceptable. However, I feel that students should not be allowed to wear any kind of accessories to school.

Firstly, if students are allowed to wear accessories to school, they will be less focused on their studies. Instead of discussing schoolwork, they will spend time talking about accessories. For example, things like the latest trends or where to find them. Besides, if students are allowed to wear accessories to school, they will probably spend a lot of time reading fashion magazines and shopping. As result, they will spend far less time on homework and revision.

Another reason why I think accessories should not be allowed in school is that they can be very costly. Even if students choose not to buy designer accessories, they may still spend a lot of their pocket money on them. This is because there are many types of accessories available and they would probably want several items of each.

All in all, if students are allowed to wear accessories to school, it will distract(分散) them from their studies. In addition, it will cost them a lot of money. Therefore, I believe that students should not be allowed to wear accessories to school.

1Which of the following things are accessories?

    A.Rings B.Sweaters C.Shoes D.Uniforms.

2How do students probably get the information about new accessories?

A.By discussing schoolwork with friends. B.By chatting with some designers online.

C.By reading fashion magazines and shopping. D.By entering a school for only designers.

3What is the writer's purpose of writing this passage?

A.To show different opinions towards whether students can wear accessories to school.

B.To argue why he thinks students should not be allowed to wear accessories to school.

C.To describe what accessories students are wearing to school in Hong Kong these days.

D.To advise more and more students in Hong Kong to wear simple accessories to school.

4What is the structure of this passage?

    A. B. C. D.

  • 26、It was a warm April day that I received a big fat envelop from the only college I desired to go. I couldn’t help feeling delighted (高兴地) once my eyes fixed on the word “congratulations”.

Then I looked at my financial (财务) package. The cost of dream school’s tuition (学费), room and board was around $ 40, 000-an impossible sum!

How could I afford to attend? What good reasons did I have to go there when three other fine colleges were offering me free tuition?

In my mind, attending my dream university would be the only way to realize my dream of becoming a world-class writer. My parents understood how I felt. They told me that even though it would be a financial problem, I could go wherever I would be happiest. But as I was always careful with money, I wasn’t sure what to do.

One of the schools that offered me a full ride had an informational dinner one night in the spring. Considering my parents’ financial difficulties, I decided to drive the 45 minutes and attend.

At dinner the president of the university talked about the wonderful activities on campus including guest lectures and social gatherings. He also made it perfectly clear that free food would be offered at all future events. He continued with explanations of professors, class sizes, activities, and sporting events on campus (校园) . As he spoke, I began to realize that this school, though not as good as my first choice, might be the best one for me. It seemed small yet with many great programs. It seemed challenging yet caring.

As the president (校长) ended his speech, a feeling of comfort washed over me. Looking at the campus that night, I realized that I would be spending the next four years fighting there.

In all honesty, my university is not as well-known as my “dream” university. However, it turned out to be the right choice of schools for me.

C.You should try your best to attend your dream school.

  • 27、If we are asked exactly what we were doing a year ago, we should probably have to say that we could not remember. But if we had kept a book and had written it in an account(陈述) of what we did each day, we should be able to give an answer to the question.

It is the same in history. Many things have been forgotten because we don’t have written account of them. Sometimes men did keep a record of the important happenings in their country, but it was often destroyed(破坏) by fire or in a war. Sometimes there was never any written record at all because the people of that time and place did not know how to write. For example, we know a great deal about the people who lived in China 4,000 years ago, because they could write and leave written records for those who lived after them. But we know almost nothing about the people who lived even 200 years ago in central Africa because they had not learnt to write.

Sometimes, even if the people cannot write, they may know something of the past. They have heard about it from older people and often songs and dances and stories have been made about the most important happenings, and those have been sung and acted and told for many generations(代), for most people are proud to tell what their fathers did in the past. This we may call “remembered history”. Some of it has been written history because words are much more easily changed when used again and again in speech than when copied in writing. But where there are no written records, such spoken stories are often helpful.

【1】Which of the following ideas is NOT included in the passage?

    A. “Remembered history” is less reliable (可靠的) than written history.

    B. Written records of the past play an important role in our learning of the human history.

    C. A written account of our daily activities helps us to be able to answer many questions.

    D. If there are no written records, there is no history.

【2】We know very little about the central Africa 200 years ago because ________.

    A. there was nothing worth writing down at that time

    B. the people there paid no attention to the importance of keeping a record

    C. the written records were perhaps destroyed by fire

    D. the people there did not know how to write

【3】“Remembered history” is considered as valuable only when ________.

    A. it is written down   B. there is no written account

    C. it proves to right D. people are interested in it

【4】The passage suggests(暗示) that we could have learnt much more about our past than we do now if the ancient people had ________.

    A. kept a record of every past event

    B. not burnt their written records in wars

    C. told the exact stories of the most important happenings

    D. made more songs and dances
