On April 5, the State Council (国务院) published new rules about school bus safety. These new rules are stricter than the old ones.

From now on, school buses have a speed limit (限制) of 80 km/h on highways and 60km/h on normal roads. While on the road, other cars must let school buses go first.
The new rules also say that school buses must never be overloaded (超载的).
There are many other rules as well.A school bus must have more than seven seats. On each bus, there must be at least one adult to keep an eye on the kids. Each school bus must have a fire extinguisher (灭火器), a first aid kit (急救箱) and a GPS.
Last year, a series of school bus accidents happened in China. To stop such accidents, the Central Government decided to strengthen (加强) the rules for school buses.

25、Flow like the river of change
Little stream ran down from a high mountain through many villages and forests. Then it reached a desert. “I went through so many difficulties. I should have no problem crossing the desert,” she thought. As she started, she found herself slowly disappearing into the sand. After many tries, she still failed. “Maybe I can’t reach the ocean,’’ she said sadly to herself.
At this time, a deep voice said, “If a breeze(微风)can cross the desert, so can a river.” It was the voice of the desert. But the little stream answered, ‘‘That’s because a breeze can fly, but I can’t.”
“That’s because you can’t give up what you are. Let yourself evaporate(蒸发)into the breeze, and it can take you across,” said the desert. “Give up what I am now? No! No!” The little stream could not accept this idea. “The breeze can carry the vapor(蒸汽)across the desert and let it leave as rain. The rain will form a river again,” said the desert. “And whether you’re a river or vapor, your nature never changes.” Hearing this, the little stream went into the open arms of the breeze. It carried her to the next stage of her life.
The course of our lives is like the experience of the little stream. If you want to go through difficulties in your life to head for success, you should also change the way you are.

26、 You try to keep your eyes wide open while watching a basketball match or a wonderful firework show in case you might miss something exciting in just the blink of an eye. But in fact, humans blink about 15 times per minute on average. Have you ever missed anything because you blinked?
Probably not. Why is that?
According to a new study published in the journal Current Biology in September our brain has the ability to skip the temporary darkness when we blink. It can keep visual information for a short period of time and then put it together to form an image without interruption.
In order to understand how this works, a group of scientists at the German Primate Center and the University Medical Center Gottingen in Germany conducted an experiment. In the study, the participants were asked to look at patterns on a screen whose direction could be interpreted in different ways, such as horizontally(水平地) or vertically(垂直地) When one pattern was about to disappear and the next one was about to come, the participants had to indicate the direction that the next pattern would appear.
The researchers found that when the directions of two patterns didn't match, the area in our brain which is responsible for visual memory was activated. This same area showed less activity when two patterns were in the same direction.
The medial prefrontal cortex(额叶皮层) adjusts current visual information with previously obtained information, and thus enables us to perceive the world with more stability, even when we briefly close our eyes to blink," Caspar Schwiedrzik explained in Science Daily. He is the first author of the study and also a scientist at the German Primate Center.
【1】We don't miss anything when blinking because our brain can _________.
A.deal with the missing image
B.remember all that we see
C.imagine what our eyes miss
D.put our pieces of memory together
【2】What does the underlined word "it" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Our brain.
B.Visual information
C.Current Biology.
D.The temporary darkness.
【3】What do we know about the experiment?
A.The two patterns appear at the same time
B.Visual memory can be more activated by similarity.
C.Participants can interpret patterns differently
D.The different directions activated visual memory.
【4】What would be the best title for this passage?
A.The Brain's Structure
B.The Brain's Activated Patterns
C.The Brain's Special Skill
D.The Brain's Movement
27、For hundreds of years, scientists have been trying to answer what things have an effect on people’s emotions (情感). How you feel is controlled by many things. Your emotions can be affected by your personality, by the actions of others and by events around you. Perhaps you don’t know your emotions can be influenced by the weather as well.
People often say they feel good when the sun is shining and sad when it is cloudy. In fact, sunlight makes us feel good. When sunlight hits our skins, our bodies produce a vitamin. Vitamins are natural chemicals (化学物质) which we all need to stay healthy. Sunlight helps our bodies produce vitamin D. Vitamin D helps our bodies make a special chemical. This special chemical affects our brains (大脑) and makes us feel happy. For example, there are long, dark winters of little sunlight in Sweden and Norway, so many people in these countries often feel sad. Without much sunlight, their bodies produce less vitamin D. Without enough vitamin D, their bodies make less of this special chemical which makes them feel good. To help the people in these countries feel better, special “sunrooms” with artificial (人造的) lights have been built. People can go there and get “sunlight” for an hour or two!
The weather can also affect people’s emotions in other ways. Hot weather can make people angry because people feel uncomfortable when they are hot. In the same way, rain can make people angry because being wet can be unpleasant. As you can see, the weather can have an effect on the chemicals which control our brains. Through these ways, the weather can influence our emotions. Sadly, while the weather can change us, we can hardly change the weather.
【1】Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a factor (因素) that can affect one’s emotions?
A. Weather. B. Actions of others.
C. Personality. D. Age.
【2】Which of the following is true about vitamin D according to the passage?
A. It is a kind of artificial chemical.
B. It makes us worried by affecting our brains.
C. It is needed by us all to keep fit.
D. It is in the sunlight.
【3】What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A. We feel good when we are in the bright cool weather.
B. We will be happy when we are caught in the rain.
C. All people in Norway and Sweden feel sad in winter.
D. The more vitamin D you have, the happier you’ll be.
28、What’s life? It’s like a big bag. The bag is filled with happiness and sadness, failure and success, and hope and despair. Experience in life teaches us 【1】(many)lessons and makes us better people. With each passing day, we learn how to deal with problems in our 【2】(day)life.
Love plays a main role in our life. 【3】 love, a person could become terrible. In the early stage of our life, our parents are the ones from whom we get much love and care. They tell us what’s correct and wrong, good and bad. But we seldom care about their words 【4】 we have our own kids.
Happiness may always 【5】(bring)us a peaceful mind. And sadness is most 【6】(like)caused by the death of a loved one, failure or despair. But all of these things 【7】(pass)away eventually.
Failure is the mother of success. It shows us that how difficult it may be if we want to succeed. You know no one is born with ability to succeed. So, when you fail to do something, don’t feel upset but keep on 【8】(work)until you succeed. Remember, success brings us money, proud and self-respect. It’s important 【9】(keep)a clear mind after we achieve.
Hope is what keeps life going. It comes from 【10】(patient)and makes us dream. Tomorrow is unknown, for it could either be bright or dark. So in order to enjoy a better tomorrow, the only choice is to work hard today.
