1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。
“If you are going to get anywhere in life, you have to read a lot of books.” Roald Dahl once said.1.阅读在我们生活中扮演着重要的角色, and no one can live without books. People always get what they want from the books. When people ask Elon Musk, the founder of Space X, how he learned to build rockets, he says, “I read books.” So 2.你想从书中学到什么呢? Maybe you want to learn how to paint, or speak a new language? Maybe you want to learn how to stop procrastinating(拖延)? Or you want to know how to change your life? No matter(无论) what it is, reading can help.
3.One great thing about reading is that it can exercise your mind. When you are reading, your brain is working and it becomes active(积极的). Our brains have a “use it or lose it” rule. If we don’t exercise our minds too often, they may not give you useful information when necessary.
Reading is good for your memory(记忆), too. When you are reading detective fiction(侦探小说), for example, you’ll find it hard to understand the story if you can’t remember all the details(细节), so it is good exercise for your memory. 4.The more you read, the better memory you will have.
What’s more, reading makes you more confident(自信的), because reading can make you more knowledgeable—5.you can always have something interesting to talk about!
So what are you waiting for?

21、A study in September has added excitement in the brain science area. In the study, volunteers had electrical stimulation (刺激) in their brains. The study found their memory and problem-solving abilities got better for at least a month. The stimulation was painless and could lead to future treatments (治疗) for memory. It can even help students with their future exams.
Volunteers in the study did better in both remembering words and working out memory-based problems. In the test, they wore a cap and it was connected to electrical currents (电流). Wearing the cap twenty minutes a day was enough to help people remember words better. The volunteers could retell more words a month later.
Working memory is connected to problem-solving and decision-making abilities. Low frequency (频率) stimulation of the brain can help boost working memory. For example, volunteers also did better in taking notes after the stimulation.

22、Do you like history? Some students do not like it. They think history is about meaningless dates, events and names which are not related to (与……有关) their everyday lives.
There is a different way of looking at history. The Historical Society of Chicago, for example, runs a lot of interesting projects. One is the Teen Council’s community-based oral history project. The Teen Council was made up of 15 teenagers from all over the Chicago area. The members of the Teen Council were interested in finding out what teenagers were like and how their lives changed during the 20th century. They took filed trips around the city and interviewed (采访) all kinds of people.
After doing a lot of interviews with people, the members realized that behind the ordinary faces of common people are often amazing stories of their lives that form “history”. They also came to understand that teenagers at different periods in history have always used music, fashion, dance and language to express themselves, just like teenagers today.
The Teen Council’s work was made into an exhibition (展览) at the Chicago City Museum and it can be seen at their website. In the website, you can read the self-introduction pages of the Council members. Also on their web page, the Council members describe the interviewees who impressed them. For example, Claire describes how she felt moved when she interviewed Sammy Skobel, who was blind and had to face a lot of problems in his high school and in looking for jobs. The Teen Council wrote summaries of their findings and categorized them into work, school, home and play. They used their strengths and worked together to make their project successful.
Are you interested in trying a similar oral history project and finding out how the people in your community spent their teenage days? The website explains how you can plan and set up an interview, and how you can write down interviews and write reports. It also includes an interview with a famous Chicago-born TV presenter as an example of how interviews can help us experience history through the stories of eyewitnesses (见证人).
History is not something that has nothing to do with you. In fact, your grandparents made history, your parents made history and you are creating history right now.
【1】What can we learn about the Teen Council’s oral history project?

25、读下面关于米老鼠的文章。请根据问题提示,用自己的话写出大意总结。词数不少于60,不多于80,在结尾标注词数。
When people say “Culture”, we think of art and history. But one very famous symbol in American culture is a cartoon. We all know and love the black mouse with two large round ears —Mickey Mouse. Over 80 years ago, he first appeared in the cartoon Steamboat Willie. When this cartoon came out in New York on November 18, 1928, it was the first cartoon with sound and music. The man behind Mickey was Walt Disney. He became very rich and successful. In the 1930s, he made 87 cartoons with Mickey.
Some people might ask how this cartoon animal became so popular. One of the main reasons is that Mickey was like a common man, but he always tried to face any danger. In his early films, Mickey was unlucky and had many problems such as losing his house or girlfriend, Minnie. However, he was always ready to try his best. People went to the cinema to see the “little man” win. Most of them wanted to be like Mickey.
On November 18, 1978, Mickey became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Today’s cartoons are usually not so simple as little Mickey Mouse, but everyone still knows and loves him. Who has a pair of ears more famous than Mickey’s?
1. What is Mickey Mouse a symbol of?
2. Who and when created Mickey Mouse?
3. Why did Mickey become so popular?
4. What happened on November 18, 1978?
5. Do people still love Mickey Mouse today?
