The coldest and most difficult place in the world to live is Antarctica(南极洲). It is the land of snow and ice near the South Pole(南极). The most famous animal of Antarctica is the penguin(企鹅). 1. Halley Bay(哈雷湾) was the world’s second largest home for penguins.

However, 2. 企鹅现在处于极大危险中。 Recently, scientists found that the number of penguins has dropped quickly. One of the main reasons is that many storms hit Halley Bay. 3. Thousands of baby penguins died from the terrible weather.

Luckily, another home of penguins has gotten much bigger. 4. 为了保持安全,许多企鹅已经搬到那里了。 Although penguins may have greater chance to keep alive, they are still facing the danger of dying out. 5. 四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、To stop the spreading of COVID-19, the governments have closed schools and universities. But “study must not stop”, says the education ministry. Under its orders, the country’s biggest exercise in online learning is underway, watched over by different people.

“Keep your history of surfing the Internet.” Lin Kai warns his 11-year-old son, who needs to study online classes given by his teachers. Mr. Lin has reason to be worried. He lives in the city of Hangzhou. He has found his son not being focused because of online games. He wants his son to know that he will check what he did online at the end of the classes.

There are other ways to check students’ study. Liu Weihua, who teaches at Wuhan University of Technology usually calls his students during online classes. Since online tests may not be helpful, he cares more about how his students perform in class discussions, Mr. Liu explains. These are held by using Dingtalk by Alibaba and Ketang by Tencent.

However, not all students are lucky enough to have computers. In poor rural areas, where some families don’t have the Internet, classes could only be given by television. Since February 17th, China Education Network, a state-run(国营的)service, has been providing classes every weekday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. to help them study better. And all main subjects, such as math and Chinese, are covered, while they should mainly study by themselves without the helps given by teachers or parents.

With parents, teachers or just a TV, everyone is an online learner. Although kids can learn in different ways, one thing is true that parents and students are looking forward to the re-opening of schools.

  • 25、You may know the English letters A, B and C. But do you know there are people called ABCs? Do you know there is such a thing as “a banana person”? How strange! ABC means American-born Chinese. An ABC is a Chinese, but was born in the United States. Sometimes, people call an ABC a “banana person”. A banana is yellow outside. So, when a person is a “banana”, he or she is white inside—thinking like a Westerner and yellow outside—looking like a Chinese.

They are overseas(海外的)Chinese. These people may be citizens(公民)of another country like the US, Canada or Singapore. But they have Chinese blood. Their parents, grandparents or even great-grandparents were from China. They all have black eyes and black hair. But they are not Chinese citizens. They are people of the People’s Republic of China. For example, we all know the famous scientist C. N. Yang(杨振宁). He got the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1957. Chinese people love him. But he is an American citizen.

  • 26、Violence (暴力) at schools has been widely reported in recent years. Hitting, slapping (打耳光) and burning others with cigarettes-the violence among teenagers has drawn public and government attention. On Nov 11, the government published a guideline (指导意见) on dealing with school violence.

The guideline stressed that students with serious behaviour problems should be taken to special schools. Or, in more serious cases, they may take criminal responsibility (刑事责任) and be sent to prison.

China has long been considered as too soft on teen offenders (犯事者), according to the People website. Criminal responsibility begins at the age of 14. Offenders under the age of 16 do not face serious punishment unless they do eight types of “serious” crimes such as murder.

This might partly explain why junior middle school students are the most common offenders in school violence cases. It’s reported that they take up 33.96 percent of the total while high school students take up 22.64 percent.

“What also shocked us is how cruel (残忍的) some young offenders can be,” said Shi Weizhong.

In school violence cases in Beijing during the last five years, 14 percent of the offenders not only beat others, but also insulted (侮辱) them. They slapped others, made them kneel down (下跪), and in some cases took off other people’s clothes.

“The common tolerant (容忍的) attitude toward violence should be changed,” wrote Jiaxing Daily. “When teenagers do something wrong, we should tolerate and help them when necessary. But all of this has a limit.”

    【1】What is the guideline about?

A.How to deal with school violence.

    B.How students improve in studies.

C.How students get along with each other.

D.How to make students behave well.

    【2】Who should be criminally responsible?

    A.An 11-year-old.

    B.A 12-year-old.

    C.A 13-year-old.

    D.A 14-year-old.

【3】Junior middle school students are the most common offenders in school violence cases possibly because ____.

A.there are not many special schools in China

B.China has been too soft on teen offenders

C.teachers in junior middle schools are not strict with them

D.they know less on laws than high school students do

【4】What does the underlined word “shocked” mean in Paragraph 5?

    A.excited

    B.interested

    C.pleased

    D.surprised

【5】Which of the following is Jiaxing Daily’s opinion?

A.We’d better patiently teach young offenders.

B.Young people need to learn to be tolerant.

C.We should tolerate school violence but there is a limit.

D.Teenagers should not do anything wrong.

  • 27、   The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the novel coronavirus (冠状病毒) outbreak a global public health emergency (突发事件) after the spread of the disease across the world. WHO made the decision in its third meeting about the coronavirus, after it decided not to take such a step in the first two meetings. It is considered to be a public health risk through the international spread of disease. It suggests a serious, sudden and unusual situation in which the world must act quickly. Since 2009, there have been a few global health emergencies, including the 2009 swine flu pandemic(猪流感) and the 2014 outbreak of ebola in West Africa.

The novel coronavirus has got attention because of its similarity to SARS which killed about 800 people across the world in 2002-2003. So far, the novel coronavirus does not seem to be as deadly as SARS, but there have been more cases. Its declaration could  cause trade and travel restrictions (限制). Those who have made holiday plans might have their plans influenced in some parts of the world. The WHO said its greatest worry was the potential (潜在性) for the virus to spread to counties with weaker health systems, who might not be able to deal with it. “We are all in this together and we can only stop it together,” said the WHO’s Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

When the virus hit China, many companies that make cars, smartphones and clothes started making face masks, too. Daddy Baby is a baby care company. It can make 700,000 masks each day. “We believe each mask we produce may save one more person,” said Lin Yangting. He is a manager at the company. When fighting the novel coronavirus, time is important. To save more lives, thousands of people work day and night. They build hospitals quickly, as well as make and transport medical things at a high speed. The surprising speed is a result of China’s unique system (独特的角度). With the Chinese speed, China has saved many patients.

1What does the underlined phrase “take such a step” mean in the first paragraph?

A.Spread the coronavirus across the world.

B.Announce the coronavirus a global public health emergency.

C.Hold the third meeting about the coronavirus.

D.Restrict trade and travel across the world.

2Which of the following statements is TRUE?

A.The 2009 swine flu pandemic was a global public health emergency,

B.SARS killed about 800 people across the world in 2009.

C.The new coronavirus has fewer cases than SARS.

D.The spread of the coronavirus has no risk.

3What could the declaration of global public health emergency cause?

A.Bigger outbreak of the coronavirus. B.Trade and travel restrictions.

C.A weaker health system. D.Immediate stop of the coronavirus.

4Why does WHO worry about the potential for the virus to spread to countries with weaker health systems?

A.Because these countries don’t have the ability to deal with it.

B.Because these countries are not brave enough.

C.Because these countries won’t pay attention to it.

D.Because these countries have too many people.

5Which of the following things is NOT done by Chinese in the passage?

A.Making face masks. B.Thousands of people work day and night.

C.Building hospitals quickly. D.People travel everywhere.
