二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   There are few things in life that are more irritating(令人愤怒的):You are mid-conversation with a friend. Suddenly he bursts out laughing, making you think you've made a brilliant joke. But then he says:"Sorry,I wasn't laughing at you,I just saw something really funny on micro blog. "He even begins replying to a text message or checking his e-mails.

The Guardian described the scene that a friend's face buried in a screen"a distinct 21 st-century problem". The phenomenon even coins a new word"phubbing",referring to the act of snubbing(冷落) others in a social setting by looking at your phone instead of paying attention. According to research by advertising agency McCann in the UK,37 percent of people feel it is worse not to answer a message than it is to"phub"your friends.

Phil Reed,a professor of psychology at Swansea University who has studied Internet addiction disorder, said many phubbers show symptoms of addiction to their mobile phone.

Like pointing or picking your nose, phubbing is widely considered rude, which can be seen from the popularity of"Stop Phubbing"campaign, which started in Australia by 23-year-old Alex Haigh who wants to shame people who snub friends and family they are with in favor of checking their mobile phone.

The campaign's website claims that"97 percent of people claim their food tasted worse while being a victim of phubbing"and"92 percent of repeat phubbers go on to become politicians".

According to Katy Steinmetz, reporter with Time, phubbing"has a much greater potential to hamper(阻碍)real-life connections by making people around us feel like we care more about posts than their presence". She believes it is the reason why the campaign can resonate(产生共鸣)with people and is getting press around the world.

In the UK,Glamour magazine even imagined just how Jane Austen would have satirized(讽刺)those in need of social etiquette(礼节)when it comes to using their smartphone. Or,to paraphrase(意译)the novelist, how it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man(or woman)in possession of a good smartphone must be in want of manners.

1The example in the opening paragraph is used to show

A.how people benefit from modern technology

B.how to reply text messages and e-mails properly

C.how to avoid hurting your friends'feelings

D.how mobile phone addiction damages our social relations

    2The purpose of the"Stop Phubbing"campaign is to_

A.persuade people to stop using mobile phones

B.give professional advice to phubbing victims

C.help people realize the rudeness of phubbing behaviors

D.encourage people to spend more time with their family

3Which of the following statement is TRUE according to the article?

A.People who often phub are more likely to make a successful politician.

B.Pointing or picking one's nose are common symptoms of phubbers.

C.Phubbing is against human nature in that we do need real-life connections.

D.More than one third British would rather not answer a message than phub their friends.

4What is the tone of the last paragraph?

    A.serious

    B.humorous

    C.doubtful

    D.disagreeing

  • 23、Usually, you spend most of your time at home. 【1】 However, with all the smells a home experiences, such as those created by cooking, people and pets, keeping it smelling good is often a difficult task. A bad-smelling home is not only unpleasant to visit, but gives the impression that your home is also unclean, which isn’t always the case. Fortunately, you can keep your home smelling fresh and clean with a few techniques.

【2】 Additionally, pick up any objects from the floor, such as clothing or towels, and place them in the box. Wash your dishes daily, which will keep your home smelling fresh.

Dust the objects in your home once weekly. Rub a soft cloth over your television and top of furniture to remove the dusty layer. Use a polishing spray for extra shine.

Wash your bedclothes on a weekly basis. Sheets, blankets and pillow cases often hold germs, which cause a smell to occur. So wash them regularly. 【3】

Bathe your dog and its bedding regularly. A dog’s smell can transmit from the animal to your floors, furniture and bedclothes. Wash the dog to prevent smells, as well as dirt, mud and other materials from being transferred from your dog to your items in your home. 【4】 Brushing daily can also release smells and materials that can cause the dog to create a foul smell in your home.

Shampoo(用洗涤剂洗)your carpets. 【5】 So the dirty carpets can make your entire home smell not-so-fresh. Cleaning carpets can remove any trapped smells as well.

A.Most dogs like having a bath.

    B.Wipe down your kitchen daily.

C.You find your home is always in a mess.

D.Smells often become trapped in the material.

Be curious and be willing to learn new things.

Moving to a new working environment, you may need to deal with new things or skills. 【2】 In such a case, people who are more willing to learn new things can become more flexible and be able to meet new requirements in their job.

    【3】

Learning or working in a new environment, you need to have a good sense of judgement when joining a discussion or making a decision. You should consider what is virtually right, and look for long-term goals, and not be distracted by small choices for the short term.

Be confident and make eye contact when talking to people.

When you go out and meet people,it is important to look confident. For example, if you are going to an interview, but you don’t feel confident, what can you do? Before you walk in, think to yourself,“I own the room.”【4】Remember to look other people in the eye—it’s the key to creating a connection with people. Soon, you will feel as confident as you look.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

On a mid-September afternoon, Sista and Rafi were racing each other on the mountainside. The .girls laughed wildly and stopped for a rest in the shade of a tree.

“Now, I’m hungry,” Sista said. “Yeah. I could really go for a jobo. I love the sweet-and-sour taste!” Rafi said, licking her lips. “I know where there’s a great jobo tree,” Sista said. “It belongs to that lady who lives in the little house by the hill. I heard she’s severe, but sometimes she gives fruit in return for an errand (差事).” They decided to give it a shot.

Raf’s heart pounded as Sista knocked on the door. An elderly woman answered. “Yes?” the lady asked, squinting (眯着眼看) at the girls. Rafi gasped, unable to speak. “We heard ...” said Sista, her voice shaky, “that you give jobos in payment for running an errand.” The lady raised one eyebrow. “Ah, yes. Payment.” She clicked her tongue. “Nothing is free, eh?”

The lady led the girls into kitchen, where the smell of warm bread filled the air. She grabbed two baskets, one large and one small, “Go fill these with jobos. Come right back.”

The girls raced up the hill to the tree and picked the ripest jobos. The moment they returned to the house, the lady handed them a bag filled with warm bread. “Take this bag and the large basket of jobos to the Gomez family. Do you know them?” The girls nodded. “Good. And ask them for the payment. Mrs. Gomez will place it in a large envelope,” the lady added, warning that if they returned without the envelope of payment, they wouldn’t get the jobos.

Wrestling with the heavy bag and basket along the way, the girls finally arrived at the Gomez home, sweating. Mrs. Gomez answered the door. Walking inside, Rafi saw colorful drawings lying everywhere. The three little Gomez kids were still busy with more pictures, pure smiles on their cute faces. “This is from the lady with the jobo tree,” Sista held up the food. Mrs. Gomez cried, “Thank you. My husband is still sick in bed. Times are hard.”
