二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、Loneliness is an emotion. We probably all experience it at some point, but loneliness is very complex and unique to each of us.

【1】 . Being alone is a choice. But feeling lonely isn’t something we impose (强加于) on ourselves. In other words, you want to be around people, but something is making you feel unwanted, empty, or isolated, so you’re not having the meaningful connection you seek.

When does it become a problem? 【2】 , it can turn into a mental and physical health problem. It can be a symptom or cause of depression. It can affect self-worth. 【3】 . That’s why chronic (长期的) loneliness is linked to increased risk of high blood pressure, obesity and even other serious disorder.

To manage loneliness, you should accept and acknowledge it. Loneliness is a valid feeing. Don’t brush it under the carpet, as that doesn’t help solve the problem. 【4】 Smell a flower or take a walk in nature, for example. Celebrate each small achievement. When you decide to change things and seek a connection with others, consider a like-minded group. A client of mine joined a sewing group and it was very successful.

The best approach to helping someone who is lonely is to sensitively ask how they are and what they’re doing, and listen to the answer in a non-judgmental way. If you want to invite them to do something with you, do it. If they say no, don’t be discouraged from asking again. 【5】

    A.Seek joy in little things

B.If you try to get over loneliness

C.They might need time before feeling ready to say yes

D.When you’re feeling lonely over a long period of time

E.There’s a big difference between loneliness and being alone

F.You might also turn to food and not feel motivated to exercise

G.Nobody enjoys being told what to do whatever the circumstances

  • 22、Some of the most powerful companies in the world have co-founders. For example, Google(Sergey Brin and Larry Page),Apple(Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs),and Microsoft(Bill Gates and Paul Allen)and so on. Having partners can help to deal with the pressure and the failures that come with running a business. No matter how down on your luck you feel they may provide emotional support. They may have extra skills, and be on hand to help out with the day-to-day problems. And an alternate point of view may help to broaden your mind and aid the risk of mistakes being overlooked.

Everybody knows Samsung’s Galaxy Note 7.When the phone was launched in 2016,customers praised it for its storage, design and usability, and it may well have been a hit if it weren’t for the fact that it occasionally caught fire and exploded. It was soon banned immediately from flights, and Samsung had no choice but to recall the entire model. The shortcoming reportedly cost the company $1 billion, and a further $17 billion in lost sales. But remember, based on the lesson, the Galaxy Note 8 and the Galaxy Note 9 are well received in the world! Now we know that failing is part of business success.

One thing that all great companies have in common is that they have failed many times—and luckily, they bounced back. Take Sarah Blakely, founder of shapewear brand Spanx for example. She credits her business success specifically to her failures. “I’d get kicked out of buildings all day long, “she remembered. “People would tear up my business card in my face. But my friends and I knew I could sell and I knew I wanted to sell something I had created. I learned that ‘no’ doesn’t always mean ‘no’ ,and that you may get 30 nos before you get the one yes. People told me no with Spanx for two years. “Spanx is worth just over $1 billion—it was a company that Blakely who took a degree in a law school started with just $5 000!

【3】What mainly contributed to Sarah Blakely’s success?

    A.Her friends’help.

    B.Her will power.

  • 23、Over the last 30 years, Bangkok, once a small fishing village, has transformed into a rich, concrete, high-rise city that it is today. The spreading metropolis and its population of 12 million now produces 35 per cent of Thailand's economic wealth.

As a magnet for foreign companies, Bangkok attracts many overseas managers and business people from different fields, including tourism, automobiles and electronics. The city's population of foreigners is in the high hundreds of thousands, with tens of thousands of Japanese, Chinese and western employees working alongside hundreds of thousands of Burmese who mostly do unskilled jobs shunned by Thais.

For those used to the good life, the variety and quality of the city's food is a key attraction, says one US manager, before listing many of his favourite Italian, Mexican and, of course, Thai restaurants. Most offer quality meals for less than the cost of a takeaway sandwich in London.

Great choice and value can be found in Bangkok's other attractions, too. For overseas business people who enjoy shopping in luxury and air-conditioned comfort, the city has hundreds of modern shopping malls. Some foreigners, however, prefer the charms of Chatuchak Market, where anything can be bought at a good price by the skilled bargainer.

When the time comes to talk business many overseas business people prefer to move out of the markets and onto the golf course. Thailand has thousands of courses, which can provide a welcome break from the busy and noisy city life. But most business people go to the golf course because it's the perfect place to discuss the next big deal.

Because of the fast-paced life some foreign business people see Bangkok as a place to stay for the short term, rather than a lifetime. Australian computer software designer Sarah Huang is seven months pregnant but still working full-time in her Bangkok office. She says the city is "definitely a place I want to stay for the next five, ten years". Nannies and home help are affordable, but high fees for quality secondary education have convinced Ms. Huang to return to Australia when her child reaches high school age.

1According to the first two paragraphs, we know that

    A. Bangkok offers many working opportunities for people

    B. Bangkok has always been a rich Thai city

    C. most foreigners coming to Bangkok are tourists

    D. Burmese in Bangkok mostly work for Thais

2The underlined word "shunned" in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to _

    A. forgotten B. unwanted

    C. appreciated D. rewarded

3What is the main attraction of golf for business people according to the passage?

    A. It is the most convenient way for them to get regular exercise.

    B. It is a good place in which to discuss business matters.

    C. It is a great way to escape from the noise and pollution of the city.

    D. It gives them the opportunity to meet local people in a social setting.

4Sarah Huang says she'll eventually leave Bangkok because

    A. she is going to have a baby

    B. her working hours are too long

    C. it's not easy to find suitable home help there

    D. the cost of a good education there is too high

5The main purpose of the passage is to

    A. explain the reasons for Bangkok's rapid economic growth over the past 30 years

    B. promote the many attractions Bangkok has to offer tourists visiting the city

    C. describe the attractions of living in Bangkok for foreign business people

    D. compare the lifestyles of Burmese workers and foreign business people in Bangkok

  • 24、Written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein, The Giving Tree is a children’s book that tells the story about a young boy and a tree in the forest. The story starts with the boy and the tree being the best of friends and having fun. As the boy grows older, he asks more from the tree, which willingly agrees until all that is left is a stump (树桩). In the end, the boy, now an old man, comes back to the tree and tells it that all he wants is a place to sit on, something that the tree eagerly provides.

In the book, each part of the story goes straight to the point without confusing readers. The book doesn’t include the events that happen to the boy in between. We see how the boy’s needs increase to a point that the tree finally gives its trunk as he grows. It makes the book easy to read and understand. The writing style may seem plain and boring at first but we need to keep in mind that it is a children’s book. If it weren’t that way, then it would be unattractive to its young readers.

The words used are very easy to understand. The phrase, “and the tree was happy”, is quite moved and shows the tree’s love for the boy. The use of the word “need” also shows readers the attitude of the boy. The change from “need” to “want” in the end also tells readers the changes that the boy goes through.

Though the book has been criticized as it can be understood in different ways, it is because of this that the book succeeds. Again the book is written for children. Different children have their own ways to understand the book and will consider it interesting.

【1】What is the book mainly about?

    A.A boy’s great love for a tree.

    B.A boy’s relationship with a tree

    C.A boy’s dependence on a forest.

    D.A boy’s interesting life in a forest.

【2】Why is the book suitable for young readers in the author’s opinion?

    A.Its story is touching.

    B.Its expressions are simple

    C.Its writing style is humorous.

    D.Its topics are varied.

【3】What makes The Giving Tree popular?

    A.The comments kids gave.

    B.The writing style.

    C.The pictures in it.

    D.Different ways to understand it.

【4】What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?

    A.To comment on a book.

    B.To introduce a writer.

    C.To recommend a story.

    D.To give readers a lesson.

四、书面表达 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

It was the middle of the day on a bright sunny Saturday, and Jay and his friends Mike and Tony were riding their dirt bikes on one of their favorite off-road trails. The trail twisted and turned through some incredible small woods. Occasionally they would stop to climb a tree and find a comfortable branch to sit on so they could take a break from riding in the heat.

On this particular day, the three kids were settled in one of their preferred trees when Jay spotted something shiny on the ground. “What could that be?” he asked Mike and Tony as he pointed out the object reflecting the sun.

They all hopped down from their individual branches and went to take a closer look. What they found was unbelievable. It was a gold money clip ( 夹子) holding five hundred dollars.

Mike immediately cried out, “Awesome! We can split up the money, and we will each be much closer to being able to buy the new bikes we want.”

“Not so fast,” said Tony. “Jay was the one who spotted the cash. To be fair, he should get more.”

“Are you guys crazy?” asked Jay. “We can’t keep the money. It isn’t ours. Aren’t we more mature than to play finders keepers like we did when we were kids?”

“Stop being such an advocate for honesty,” complained Mike and Tony.

“Let’s all go home and think about this,” said Jay, knowing that he could have made the call because he was the one who spotted the money clip in the first place.

Mike and Tony agreed to Jay’s suggestion. Jay kept the money and they all rode their bikes home. They decided to meet up after dinner at the head of the off-road trail.

Mike and Tony lived on the same street so they rode home most of the way together. They were able to talk a bit more without Jay’s input. The more they talked, the more they came to see Jay’s point.
