    A person is injured; or

The identity of the chemical is unknown; or

    Multiple chemicals are involved; or

The chemical is highly poisonous, flammable (可燃的) or reactive ; or

The spill/leak occurs in a public space such as a corridor; or

The spill/leak has the potential to spread to other parts of the building such as through the ventilation (通风) system; or

The clean up procedures are not known or appropriate materials are not readily available; or

The clean up requires a respirator (呼吸器) (including cartridge respirators) to be worn and no personnel have been trained and fit-tested in accordance(一致) with the campus Respiratory Protection Program; or

The spill/leak may endanger the environment by reaching waterways or outside ground, or by going down a drain

If none of the above conditions are met, the spill is defined as a simple spill. You may clean up simple spills in accordance with Chapter 6 of the Chemical Safety Guide. For consultative assistance, call Division of Research Safety (DSR) at 333-2755.

  • 22、On September 9, senior Andre Samaraweera qualified as a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship. In the spring, Andre will find out if he has qualified for the finalist position. “Seeing my score on the PSAT was by far the most exciting because it felt pleasant to see all my hard work pay off,” Andre said. “I was happy that I could qualify to get a scholarship because of my academic scores.”

The National Merit Scholarship is one awarded to those who do well on the Preliminary SAT or the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation will grant around 7,600 students the scholarship after an intense filtering of about 1.6 million entries.

“The most difficult part of the PSAT was actually having to study,” Andre said. “I had to force myself to actually study, because I knew if I didn’t, I wouldn’t do well and would probably not make as high of a score as I had.”

Andre took the PSAT his junior year and got a 1450/1520 and missed three questions in English and made a perfect score on the math portion.

As a semifinalist he has already passed multiple stages in the selection process and now competes with only around 16,000 students for scholarships.

The first scholarship opportunities are single-payment scholarships worth $2,500; the second scholarship is a corporate sponsored one which is for finalists with career plans the sponsor wishes to encourage. Finally there is the college-sponsored scholarship which is where officials of each sponsor college select winners of their awards from finalists who have been accepted for admission.

“It’s just a PSAT. The real SAT has a lot more impact on my future,” Andre said. “It’s not hard to know everything for the PSAT; the difficulty lies in applying everything perfectly.”

  • 24、The poaching,or illegal killing,of rhinos(犀牛) in South Africa is growing worse each year. The government recently reported that a record number of rhinos were poached in 2014,a year which had more rhino killings in South Africa than ever before.

The World Wildlife Fund,or WWF,says about 20,000 rhinos live in South Africa. That is more than 80 percent of the rhinos in the world.Edna Molewa,South Africas environmental issues minister, says,During 2014,we are sad to say this,1,215 rhinos were killed. This is a rise in the number of poached rhinos from 1004 in 2013 and indeed very worrying.

The animals are hunted for their horns(犀牛角).Many people in Asia believe the horn has   curing power, which drives poachers,at all costs, mad for more horns. But there is no scientific   evidence for this belief. The horn is made of keratin. That is the same thing as human hair,   fingernails and toenails.

Ms.Mo1ewa said 386 suspected poachers were arrested last year,an increase from the year before. But rhino protection workers say poachers often go unpunished after arrest.South Africas legal system is ineffective.Ms.Molewa said more needs to be done and South Africa is taking strong measures to protect rhinos. The efforts include moving some of the animals to secret places in neighboring countries. Now approximately 100 rhinos have been moved to neighboring states in the SADC region during 2014 and 200 more rhinos will be moved this yearMolewa said.

Jo Shaw, the rhino program manager at the WWF,said, were talking about a loss of a hundred rhinos a month.Or more than three a day.We really need to see effective action not just at a national level but internationally. She says officials should find the criminal groups   responsible for the poaching and punish them.Government officials are to meet in Botswana in   March at the Inter-governmental Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade.

    A.To get more keratin.

    B.To protect the farmland.

    C.To use them for decoration.

    D.To make money from horns.

    【3】Jo Shaw thinks that_________.

A.many criminal groups are well organized

B.new laws are needed to punish the killers

    C.rhino protection needs international cooperation

D.conferences about protecting rhinos are to be held every year

B.No one would like to buy horns in the future.

C.The illegal killing of rhinos will soon disappear.

D.Rhinos living in South Africa will move to other countries.

  • 26、阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day I got stuck in the Tube on my way to work.

The Tube—that’s what most people call it—is London’s underground railway system.

It was about nine o'clock in the morning, the middle of the rush-hour. Nobody had expected something unusual would happen later and everyone was doing their usual: a pretty girl gave her boyfriend sweet kisses one after another. Sitting next to me, a young woman with a suitcase and a baby took a scarf out of her suitcase and made her baby a nest, so that it could lie more comfortably. In fact, the train had just left Green Park Station when, instead of speeding up, it started to slow down and then came to a stand-still.

Ten minutes passed, though it seemed like half a day. the train didn’t move. Had the railwaymen forgotten all about our existence? Had there been a crash on the line in front? How serious was the breakdown? We had no means of knowing. However, to anxious people who are stuck in the Tube, I suppose it doesn’t really matter what it is that has broken down. What they care is when they can get out of the trouble.

Twenty minutes passed. All hope of getting to work on time had long since gone. Had the train really broken down? Several people thought so, but they were wrong. A railwayman at last came down the length of the train to tell us that the power supply had failed, and that we were not to worry as they were working to put it right.

We could not leave the train, as it had stopped in the tunnel (隧道), not at a station. There was nothing else to do. The weak signal disabled cellphones. Besides, the train was getting hot and stuffy (闷). I even began to wonder if we were going to stay there for the rest of the day.
