I open it to see what is happening in the street. You can't get disconnected from the street, as a writer that's a common mistake. A.He aroused his interest in literature.

B.He taught him French in college.

  • 28、   We don't choose our siblings(兄弟姊妹)the way we choose our partners and friends. Of coursewe don't choose our parents eitherbut they usually make that up to us by accompanying us on the way to adulthood. Brothers and sisters are just sort of there. And yetwhen it comes to our developmentthey can be more influential than parents.

Whether these relationships make our life better or worse is a more complicated question. On the upsidepositive interactions with siblings during adolescence foster(培养)empathyprosocial(亲社会的)behaviorand academic achievement. Howeverwhen a sibling relationship is badit can be really bad. Tense sibling relationships make people more likely to be depressed and anxious in adolescence. Moreoversibling bullying makes a kid involved in self-harm as a teen and develop mental problems in adulthood.

Whether a person models himself after his siblings or tries to distinguish himself has particularly important consequences. One study found that siblings who felt positive about each other tended to achieve similar education levels while those who spent unequal time with their dad and got unequal parental treatment had different educational fortunes. That difference is changeable. One the one handas siblings' relationships with their parents grow more different over timetheir relationship with each other may become warmer. On the other handfollowing your sibling can be a mistake: teenagers are more likely to be involved in risky behavior if an older sibling did so first.

One way or anothersibling influence is lasting. A study of more than I million Swedes found that one's risk of dying of a heart attack multiplies after a sibling dies of onedue not only to shared DNA but also to the stress of losing such a key figure. The findings make sense: Most of us are different people than we’d have been if our brothers or sisters were never born.

1Sibling bullying is mentioned in Paragraph 2 to indicate__________.

A.the complicated situation of sibling relationships

B.the major cause of tense sibling relationships

C.the typical example of the sibling relationships

D.the negative influence of bad sibling relationships

2We can conclude from Paragraph 3 that _________

A.sibling relationships play a significant role in one's life

B.enough parental attention ensures higher education levels

C.following older siblings does great harm to teenagers

D.sibling relationships have little to do with their parents

3What is the main idea of the passage

A.Siblings are precious gifts from parents.

B.Sibling relationships are easy to handle.

C.Sibling influence is strong and lasting.

D.Siblings have negative effects on one's life.

  • 29、Leadership today is not about forcing others to do things. If this is even possible, it is short-term. If you order someone to do something against their will, they may do it because they feel they must, but the anger they feel will do more harm in the long-term. They will also experience fear.

Fear causes the thinking brain to shut down, making the person unable to function at his or her best. If they connect you with this emotion of fear, they will become less functional around you, and you will have succeeded in not only shooting yourself in the foot, but possibly making a very good employee or partner unable to perform effectively. Fear has no place in leadership.

The way we affect people in a lasting way is by our own character, and our understanding and use of emotion. We can order someone to do something, which may be part of the work day, or we can employ them at the emotional level, so they become fully devoted to the projects and provide some of their own motivation(积极性).

Today’s work place is all about relationships. Anyone works harder in a positive environment in which they’re recognized and valued as a human being as well as a worker. Everyone produces just a bit more for someone they like. Leaders understand the way things work. They know money is not the only most motivating factor in the work life of most people.

The true strength of leadership is an inner strength that comes from the confidence of Emotional Intelligence-knowing your own emotions, and how to deal with them and those of others. Developing your emotional intelligence is the best thing you can do if you want to develop your relationships with people around you, which is the key to the leadership skills.

【1】When may an employee have a feeling of fear in the work place?

A.He is forced to do things.

B.He cannot work at his best.

C.He feels his brain shut down.

D.He thinks of this work as a burden.

【2】Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A.People like to connect leadership with fear.

B.Good relationship is the key to business success.

C.Working conditions affect people’s physical health.

D.Smart people are more functional in the work place.

【3】To positively affect employees, what should a leader do first of all?

    A.Provide better suggestions.

    B.Develop his own personality.

C.Hide his own emotion of fear.

D.Give his employees a pay rise.

【4】Good leadership is mainly seen in a leader’s ability to ___________.

    A.give employees specific instructions

    B.help raise employees’ living standards

    C.deal wisely with employees’ emotions

D.provide a variety of projects for employees

Why your Password May Not Be As Safe As It Seems?  Does “qaz2ws” strike you as a nice safe password? What about “adgjmptw”? An analysis has found them to be among the passwords that are most 1 used, which of course means they are not secure at all.

When ten million passwords were leaked on to the internetthey appeared to 2that attempts by internet security experts to make us improve our password strength had been successful, even if, in the specific case of the leaked passwords, they are also completely pointless.

While many of the passwords were still single words, such as “password”there was also a clear attempt by many to make them harder to3. The problem was that people seemed to do so in the same way.

“Users are becoming slightly more 4what makes a password strong,” explained WP Engine, an internet company that performed the analysis. “For instance, adding a number or two at the end of a text phrase. That makes it better, right?”

But 5no. They found that almost half a million passwords did this and in 20 percent of those all people did was put the number “1” at the end.

Perhaps this is why some companies are now trying to move gradually beyond passwords. Yahoo! is giving users the option to 6 their mobile phone with an account, having a single use passwords texted to it each time they want to log on.

Although the serviced is voluntary, Dylan Casey an executive at Yahoo!said that it was “the first step to7passwords”. He said it was a(n)8that it was increasingly hard for people to remember all the passwords they had. “I don’t think we, as an industry, have done a good enough job of putting ourselves in the shoes of the people using our products,” he said.

It would certainly be a more sensible strategy than same people’s improving upon “password” by using “password” or“tran5p053d numb3r5 f0r 133tr3r5”.

“We are, for the most partpredictably9when it comes to choosing passwords, despite a decade of warnings from password strength checkers during sign-ups” said WP Engine. “We love taking a(n) 10, and so do password crackers.

Smell the flowers before you go to sleep and you may just end up with rosy dreams. Have a whiff of rotten(腐烂的)eggs during the night and your dreams may be1(pleasant). So says researcher Dr. Boris Stuck, 2invited sleeping volunteers to a rose vs. rotten egg test in the University Hospital Mannheim in Germany. The subjects didn’t dream about roses3eggs, but rather he found that what they smelt affected the emotions of4(they) dreams.

And if you think5(smell) have a say in dreams, wait for what TV tells us. A UK study reveals that people exposed6black-and-white film and TV in their youth are to have monochromic(单色的)dreams throughout their life more7(probable). Eva Murzyn from the University of Dundee tested two age groups— one half 8(age) over 55 and9other half under 25.

The result? Under 5% of the dreams of the under-25s were in black and white. 10(watch)color TV in childhood seems to be the reason why.

While 1 was sitting in the living room, the days that I spent with my mom crowded in on me. We had a very Tom and Jerry relationship. She was a strict trainer; I was naughty. She would ask me to buy groceries, and I wouldn't come right home because I'd be using the change from the milk and bread to play video games at the supermarket. I loved video games. I was a master at Street Fighter. I could go forever on a single play. I'd drop a coin in, time would fly, and the next thing 1 knew there'd be a woman standing behind me with a belt. It was a race. I'd take off out the door and through the dusty streets of Eden Park, climbing over walls. It was a normal thing in our neighborhood:

Everyone knew: The child would come through like a bat out of hell, and his mom would be right there behind him. She could go fast in high heels, but if she really wanted to come after me, she'd kick her shoes off while still going at top speed. She'd do this strange move with her ankles and the heels would go flying and she wouldn't even miss a step. When 1 was little she always caught me, but as I got older I got faster. So it was not easy for her to catch me.

Paragraph 1: When speed failed her, she used her wisdom.
