26、In November, “NFT” was chosen as 2021's “Word of the Year” by Collins Dictionary. NFT is short for Non-Fungible Token. It is a “one-of-a-kind” property in the digital world that can be bought and sold like any other piece of property but has no tangible (可触摸的) form. Now, NFTs are becoming popular in the art world.
Unlike the traditional artworks that are made by hand and have their own special technique, digital arts can be copied and gained for free. But NFTs could provide a digital certificate (证明), showing the ownership of a unique virtual or physical artwork.
“In the digital world, you wouldn't know if something is a copy of something else because the copy is almost perfect. The NFT was the first to prove who owns this property,” said Pindar Wong, chairman of Internet financial infrastructure consultancy VeriFi.
Along with protecting ownership, NFTs allow the owner to get a payment each time his/her work is sold. The artwork itself still belongs to the owner, and the buyers can get limited rights to show the digital artwork. So whenever the NFTs are sold, each transaction (交易) can only be made with the owner.
“NFTs can ensure that owners, including artists or musicians, can have a part of the income from every transaction, which could encourage their creations,” said Sylvia Wang, a consultant at business-to-business platform ArtBiz Asia.
That's why many experts believe that NFTs can greatly change the art industry. According to the latest report, in the first half of 2021, the sales of NFT digital artworks reached $ 2.5 billion, an increase from just $13.7 million for the same period in 2020.
US artist Mike Winkelmann said that with the help of NFT technology, the art field has entered a new time. He created a digital work of art — Everydays: The First 5, 000 Days. In March, it was sold for $ 69 million.

27、People eat more when they are glued to the television, and the more entertaining the program, the more they eat, according to new research.
It seems that distracted brains do not notice what the mouth is doing, said Dr Alan Hirsch, neurological director of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago. Hirsch explored the effect of smell, taste and eating behaviors while watching TV by measuring the number of potato chip eaten.
Forty-five volunteers ate as many chips as they wanted while they watched programs by late-night talk show hosts David Letterman and Jay Leno. They also were given chips to eat when the television was off. Hirsh found people ate an average of 44 percent more chips while watching Letterman and 42 percent more while viewing Leno, than when they did not watch TV.
“If you can concentrate on how the food tastes you’ll eat less because you’ll feel full faster,” Hirsch said in an interview at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting in Toronto. “So if that’s the case, let’s look at the opposite. What if you’re distracted? If you’re distracted, in theory, then you’d eat more.”
Through his research at the foundation, Hirsch has helped people overcome the loss of sense and taste sensation, which typically results in weight gain because the brain does not know when it should stop eating.
The ventromedial nucleus(腹内侧核) in the hypothalamus(丘脑下部), where the so-called satiety center is located, tells the body whether it is hungry or full. If it is stopped or tricked, the result can be changed in eating patterns, he said, “People who cook spaghetti all day don't feel like eating spaghetti at the end of the day,” said Hirsch. “By being exposed to a smell all day long it’s tricking the hypothalamus.”
Volunteers were asked to concentrate on the sensory characteristics of the food such as taste and smell. Researchers say these sensory taste and smell, in addition to internal body changes, signal satiety. But when distracted, a person does not pay attention to either the body's sensations of feeling full, or to the sensory characteristics of the food.
Many studies have linked obesity to watching television and that link is likely due to inactivity, Hirsch said. But perhaps entertaining shows are also contributing. “If you want to lose weight, turn off the television or watch something boring,” he said.
【1】How did Hirsch carry out the research?
A.By watching people eat.
B.By interviewing people.
C.By counting how many chips people eat.
D.By observing how people watch television.
【2】What do Hirsch’s words in Para.6 mean?
A.They think spaghetti unhealthy.
B.They have smelt spaghetti enough.

28、If you think English means endless new words, difficult grammar and sometimes strange pronunciation, you are wrong. Haven’t you noticed that you have become smarter since you started to learn a language?
According to a new study by a British university, learning a second language can lead to an increase in your brain power. Researchers found that learning other languages changes grey matter. This is the area of the brain which processes information. It is similar to the way that exercise builds muscles (肌肉).
The study also found the younger people learn a second language, the greater the effect is. A team led by Dr. Andrea Mechelli, from University College London (UCL), took a group of Britons who only spoke English. They were compared with a group of “early bilinguals” who had learnt a second language before the age of five, as well as a number of later learners. Scans showed that grey matter density (密度) in the brain was greater in bilinguals than in people without a second language. But the longer a person waited before mastering a new language, the smaller the difference was. “Our findings suggest that the structure of the brain is changed by the experience of learning a second language,” said the scientists.
It means that the change itself increases the ability to learn. Professor Dylan Vaughan Jones of the University of Wales, has researched the link between bilingualism and maths skills. “Having two languages gives you two windows on the world and makes the brain more flexible(灵活的).” he said. “You are actually going beyond language and have a better understanding of different ideas.”
The findings were matched in a study of native Italian speakers who had learnt English as a second language between the ages of two and thirty-four. Reading, writing, and comprehension were all tested. The results showed that the younger they started to learn, the better. “Studying a language means you get an entrance to another world,” explained the scientists.
【1】What is mainly talked about in this passage?

B.Language learning is closely connected with maths study.
C.The study done by the researchers from UCL is very successful.
D.Studying a foreign language can improve man’s ability to think.

C.To prove that one needs more practice when he/she is learning a language.
D.To show the significance of using the language when you learn a language.

A.An active foreign language learner.
B.A person who can speak two languages.
C.A researcher on foreign language learning.
D.A person who is good at learning foreign languages.
【4】What can we know from the scientific findings?
A.The ability of learning a second language is changing all the time.
B.The experience of learning a second language has a bad effect on brain.
C.The earlier you start to learn a second language, the higher the grey matter density is.
D.There is no difference between a later second language learner and one without a second language.
29、Whether in the home or the workplace, social robots are going to become a lot more common in the next few years. Social robots are about to bring technology to the everyday world in a more humanized way, said Cynthia Breazeal, chief scientist at the robot company Jibo.
While household robots today do the normal housework, social robots will be much more like companions than mere tools. For example, these robots will be able to distinguish when someone is happy or sad, This allows them to respond more appropriately to the user.
The Jibo robot, arranged to ship later this year, is designed to be a personalized assistant. You can talk to the robot, ask it questions, and make requests for it to perform different tasks. The robot doesn’t just deliver general answers to questions; it responds based on what it learns about each individual in the household. It can do things such as reminding an elderly family member to take medicine or taking family photos.
Social robots are not just finding their way into the home. They have potential applications in everything from education to health care and are already finding their way into some of these spaces.
Fellow Robots is one company bringing social robots to the market. The company’s “Oshbot” robot is built to assist customers in a store, which can help the customers find items and help guide them to the product’s location in the store. It can also speak different languages and make recommendations for different items based on what the customer is shopping for.
The more interaction the robot has with humans, the more it learns. But Oshbot, like other social robots, is not intended to replace workers, but to work alongside other employees. “We have technologies to train social robots to do things not for us, but with us,” said Breazeal.
