四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、It was the final part of an international race. With just 700 metres to go, Mike was in third place and his younger brother, John, was in the lead. Mike pushed himself towards the finish line in the burning heat, but as he came around the corner, he saw his brother about to fall onto the ground. Mike had to choose—brotherly love, or a chance to win the race?

For Mike, the choice was clear. His brother was in trouble. He had to help. Mike ran towards John, caught him and started pulling him towards the finish line. Mike then pushed his brother over the line. The move put John in second place and Mike himself in third. It was an unexpected end to the race, so reporters quickly crowded around Mike, asking him all kinds of questions. But Mike did not want to discuss it. His younger brother was rushed to the medical area, and he, just wanted to check on his dear younger brother.

The brothers have been practising running since they were children. “Naturally, when your elder brother is doing it, you think it’s a cool thing to do,” says John. Mike says that they encourage each other as much as they can when they train. Although they have disagreements about “stupid things” now and then, Mike agrees that having a brother is an advantage. “Throughout my whole life, I’ve had my brother trying to beat me at everything I do. It has been a great power to push me forward. ”

Watched by millions, the ending to the race has different opinions: should the brothers be highly praised for their actions, or shouldn’t they get the prizes? But for Mike, his decision was easy to explain: “Mum wouldn’t be happy if I left John behind.” At that moment, he was no longer a sportsman trying to win a prize—he was just a brother.

【1】What happened at the final part of the race?

    A.John almost fell down.

    B.John was behind others.

    C.Mike was running ahead.

D.Mike passed out in the heat.

【2】How did Mike deal with the situation?

A.Mike sent John to see a doctor.

B.Mike asked the reporters for help.

C.Mike pulled John over the finish line.

D.Mike helped John reach the finish line.

【3】What does Mike think of his brother?

    A.A strict partner.

    B.A pushing power.

    C.A huge responsibility.

    D.An annoying competitor.

【4】What would be the best title for the passage?

    A.Just a prize

    B.Just a brother

    C.Just a winning chance

    D.Just an unexpected race

  • 25、I would like to talk to you about one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. I was born and raised there and now I visit it from time to time. My family moved to the city, so I only go back to see friends or to camp and fish.

I grew up in a small town called Antonito Co. It is surrounded by mountains. So camping is a big source of happiness in the valley. There are so many beautiful places to hike.

The town itself is very small. It is said that if you blink (眨眼) when you’re going through it, you’ll miss it. This has some truth in it considering the size of the town. We have one grocery store (杂货店), a tiny post office , and a tiny bank. There are also a few gas stations, bars, some excellent restaurants, a small hospital and of course several schools. However, for clothing and shoes, you have to drive thirty miles to Alamosa to shop there.

Everyone in the town is nice and we all know each other. The crime rate () is zero unless you count some weekend fights that break out because some people drink too much. The classes in school are small, so you get a lot of attention from the teacher.

You’re probably wondering why I don’t live there. Well, I can’t get a job there. A lot of the businesses are family-owned. And they never fire(解雇) their employees. So the employees work there usually until they retire(退休). Most people have to go to other places to get a job.

  • 27、What is a creative person like? Some people say creative person wants to be know it all. He wants to know about all kinds of things, because he never knows when these ideas might come together to form a new idea. It may happen soon or several years later.

I agree that people need knowledge to form new ideas. However, knowledge alone won’t make a person creative. Many people know lots of facts but nothing creative happens. Their knowledge just sits in her minds because they don’t think about what they know in any new ways. The real key to being creative lies in what you do with your knowledge.

Creative thinking requires you to search for ideas and manipulate your knowledge and experience. You try different ways, first one, and then another. Often you don’t get anywhere. You try crazy and impractical(不切实际的),you can make something new. The Nobel Prize winner Albert Szent﹣Gyorgyi said, “Discovery consists(由...组成)of looking at the same thing as everyone else and thinking something different. ”

Why don’t we “think something different” more often? There are two main reasons. The first is that we don’t need to be creative for most of what we do. For example, we don’t need to be creative when we’re riding bikes or doing some shopping. Another reason is that our own attitudes(态度) may stop us from being creative. Most of us have certain attitudes and they keep us thinking in the same ways. These attitudes are necessary for most of what we do.

There are times, however, when we need to be creative and come up with new ways to complete our goals. By changing attitudes and taking advantage of our knowledge(普通的) extraordinary.

【1】What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about? ________

    A.Why knowledge makes people creative.

    D.What make people creative.

    D.remember something deeply

【3】Why does the writer use Albet Szent Gyorgyi’s words in Paragraph 3? ________

B.To show the importance of thinking in different ways.

C.To suggest some possible ways of being creative.

D.To tell how famous scientists made their discoveries.

【4】What is the writer’s opinion on being creative? ________

A.People with more knowledge want to be creative.

B.People should be creative for most of what they do.

C.Being creative needs people to change their attitudes.
