26、The book, Aliens Ate My Homework, is set in a small town in the United States. By the way the characters talk to each other and the description of items from their daily lives, I think the story takes place within the last 10 years. It is a story about a boy named Rod Allbright who goes to school like any other normal kid. Unfortunately, the class bully(恃强凌弱者) always picks on him because he is overweight. While he’s working on a school project for the science fair, tiny aliens(外星人) come, crashing through his bedroom window in a spaceship. They have come to the earth to get another alien, an evil one named BKR. He is known in other galaxies(星系) for his cruelties. Rod gets bullied throughout the entire novel. The bully’s name is Billy Becker, who is also called BKR! Rod does not discover that Billy is a bad alien until later on.
This book has lots of action and the main character is fun to read about. The most exciting part is when the aliens and Rod find out that BKR is Billy Becker and they skip school and go to search his house. They get caught when BKR comes home from school. He traps them in a storing device where he keeps his alien items. They break free of the device and escape from his house with some difficulty. Rod Allbright is fun to read about because he can never tell a lie. This gets him into trouble when the aliens eat his homework and he can’t make up an excuse for the teacher.
The main idea that the author shares is that there could be other galaxies out in the universe with intelligent life forms who could be almost the same as humans. In this book, the aliens are just like humans in the way they think even though they look different and have a different language. I have learned that if you are nice to people they will be nice in return. This is proven in the book because Rod is nice to the aliens and they return the favor.

27、There are 10 provinces (省) in Canada. British Columbia is known as a great attraction for tourists, Alberta is known for its oil and natural gas, and Saskatchewan is known for its large wheat fields. Ontario is known as being the business center of the country. But Quebec is best known for being different from the rest of Canada. It is “the French Canada” because of its large French-speaking population, some of whom want to break away from the other English speaking provinces of Canada.
In Canada, most people speak English as their first language and the two national television networks broadcast in English throughout the country. Apart from in Quebec and a few places on the east coast, there are few television programs in French.
The same goes for traffic signs and menus. For example, outside of Quebec, there are only a few places where you’ll see traffic signs in French. In restaurants, it’s almost impossible to find French on the menu unless you are in the heartland of French Canada. However, all products sold in Canada must, by law, have labels (标签) and instructions in both languages.
Canada is now one of the few nations in the world to have two official languages: English and French. In Canada’s English speaking provinces, the two-official-language reality means that students can choose to complete a special French language course. If they begin the course in kindergarten or Grade One, it is likely that all their lessons will be in French. However, if they start at junior high school, 25 percent of the teaching will continue to be in English.

B.Students are allowed to study all their subjects in French.
C.Only French courses are offered in the French speaking provinces.
D.25% of the courses in junior high schools are just taught in English.
28、Long plane trips can be tiring. Luckily, there are things you can do both during and after a long flight that can help reduce (减轻) your discomfort.
During the flight
• 【1】 Boredom gives you the chance to pay attention to your discomfort. Instead, help pass the time by watching a movie, reading a book, writing a letter, walking up and down the aisle (过道), or listening to music.

• Make yourself comfortable. Wear loose-fitting clothing and sit comfortably. 【3】 Avoid crossing your legs, and get any hard subjects out of your back pockets.
• Get a good seat. Request a seat over the wing or the wheels. 【4】 Sitting in an aisle seat will make it easier for you to get up from your seat and will give you more legroom.
• Sleep. If possible, sleep during night flights, and just take a very short sleep on day flights.
After arrival

29、“If you’ve gone through adolescence already, you’ll no longer be able to speak a foreign language perfectly.” This and other similar statements are not the only thing argued among brain researchers and experts in languages. But they agree on one thing: Children learn languages differently from adults.
“Good morning, boys and girls!” For decades this has been how English classes started in Germany. They are the first bits of vocabulary and basic phrases. For years now, however, increasing numbers of primary schools in Germany have been teaching younger children their first foreign language. In order to better prepare children for a multilingual future, parents, educators and policymakers are seeking support behind the idea of “the earlier the better” when it comes to learning foreign languages. But does this necessarily mean that small children in general learn foreign languages better than adolescents or adults?
“It depends on what we consider ‘better’ about foreign languages,” says Rudiger Grotjahn, professor of language learning.” If we look at the end result of language acquisition(获得), an early start is certainly advantageous.”
If “better” means faster, then young children don’t do so well compared to adolescents or even young adults, especially at the beginning of the course when, according to Rudiger Grotjahn, the latter two groups make better progress.
Educational psychology has also shown us that successful learning is mainly based on existing knowledge. The same is true for language learning. Furthermore, techniques developed when you are learning the native language also play an important role in learning a foreign language.
Children often respond to(应对)new languages with curiosity while adults increasingly look to their own learning and life experience to help them learn the words, structures and ideas of a foreign language. The result is that children learn more through games and gestures while adults take a more analytical(分析性的)approach with stricter rules. Rudiger Grotjahn thinks that good foreign language courses should take these various requirements and methods into account. The joy of learning a foreign language is something both the young and the old can experience to an equal degree.

D.children like learning foreign languages better than adults do

The next time you’re riding a subway or bus, pay attention to your fellow passengers. Chances are you’ll see plenty of them with their heads down, tapping the screens of their tablets or 【1】 on their smartphones. While these folks may be making good use of their time by staying 【2】, their bodies are paying a heavy price for such convenience.
As hand-held devices such as smartphones and tablets are becoming more common, users are reporting some new 【3】 problems. Florida chiropractor (脊椎按摩师) Dean Fishman began noticing an increased number of his patients 【4】 of neck and shoulder pain. He traced these 【5】 to the overuse of hand-held devices, specifically the action of bending the neck, and created the term “Text Neck.” As if the painful symptoms weren’t bad enough, Fishman warns that an untreated case of Text Neck could lead to permanent spinal (脊柱的) damage. He founded the Text Neck Institute in an effort to treat and educate those suffering from Text Neck. Treatments offered there include chiropractic care, physical therapy, massage therapy and exercise planning.
In order to avoid or reduce the possibility of getting Text Neck, use the following basic principles:
Avoid awkward positioning. Don’t strain (滥用) your neck, and stay aware of how your body is positioned in relation to the device.
Take frequent 【6】 when using any kind of mobile device.
When using a tablet, use a case that can back up the device at comfortable viewing angle.
For those who simply can’t take their eyes off their devices, there is an ironic twist – downloading a special app(应用程序)could help. Dr. Fishman has released an app called the Text Neck Indicator App, which measures the angle of your smartpphone. When the angle is appropriate, a green light appears in the upper corner of your screen. But when the angle puts you at risk for neck strain, the light turns red, obliging you to adjust your angle.
