一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

Do you have difficulty falling asleep at night? If so, here is a piece of advice for you: Listen to some soft music.

Scientists have found that soft music can help to improve our sleep. This works for sleepers of all ages and even for those with sleeping problems. Soft music can help us fall asleep faster, wake up less during the night and feel more rested in the morning. You may not notice the effects overnight, though. 1. It could take at least three weeks to see improvements.

2.为什么轻音乐能助于我们睡得更好? The reasons aren’t clear yet. It may have something to do with the relaxing effect of a good song. Music can have real physical effects, too. Soft music can lower our heart rate and slow down our breathing. 3.这对我们入睡有好处。

Scientists say that for most people, music that has 70 beats(节拍) per minute works best. Classical, jazz and folk music are usually more effective than other musical styles. Familiar songs work well, too. You may need to experiment to make your own playlists. If you are not sure how many beats a song has in a minute, you may find it out on www.songbpm.com. And remember to get the volume(音量) right. Make sure the final piece is the one that slowly fades out(减弱), 4. if you don’t want to be woken up by the sudden silence.

It’s very important to get enough high-quality sleep. 5. Before you go to bed tonight, play some soft music. Then, just prepare to be rocked off to dreamland!

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、阅读理解

    Dear neighbors,

We are writing this letter to you because our school has started a group. It is called “Help the Environment”. It works to look after the environment.

Here are some interesting facts that our group has learnt:

Most things that we throw away can be reused or recycled.

Some European countries, for example, Germany, already recycle half of their waste.

90% of people in our country would like to recycle more.

We think that most people would agree with these statements:

We need to recycle our waste, not use up the world’s sources.

It is better to recycle waste than to burn it in the earth or the sea.

Our environment group has decided that one of the best things we can do is to collect reusable waste. We will sell this waste to recycle companies and give the money to Friends of the Earth. We would like people living near the school to bring their recyclable waste to the school. But if you are too busy, we will collect it from you once a week.

We hope that you will agree to this. If you do, please sign your names below this letter.

      Yours,

    John Cooper

    根据短文内容,判断下列句子是否正确,对的涂(A),错的涂(B)。

  • 25、Which of your hands do you use most ? Very few of us use both of our hands well. Most of us are right-handed. Only about five people out of a hundred are left-handed. New-born babies can take things with either of their hands, but in about two years they like to use their right hands. Scientists don’t know why this happens. They have studied it. They think our animal ancestors(祖先) are right-handed. This may not be true. Monkeys are our closest relations in the animal world. Scientists have found that monkeys like to use one of their hands more than the other—but it can be either hand. There are as many right-handed ones. Next time you visit the zoo, watch the monkeys carefully. You’ll see that some of them will swing(摆动)from their right hands and others will use their left hands. But most human beings(人类) use their right hands better and this makes life difficult for the left-handed ones. We live in a right-handed world.

1Very few of us can use both of our hands well. It means ________ .

    A. we can’t use one as well as the other

    B. we can’t use both hands

    C. many people can use one as well as the other.

    D. some of us can use both hands

    2New-born babies ________ at first.

    A. can only use their right hands   B. can only use their left hands

    C. can’t use their hands   D. can use both their hands

3Which of the following is true ?

    A. Monkeys are left-handed.

    B. Monkeys are right-handed

    C. Some of the monkeys are left-handed, and others are right-handed.

    D. There are much more right-handed monkeys than left-handed monkeys.

    4We live in a _________ .

    A. left-handed world   B. right-handed world

    C. monkey world   D. animal world

5The left-handed people are difficult in life because __________

    A. they can’t use their right hands at all   B. most people use their right hands better.

    C. they can’t use both of their hands   D. they can’t use their left hands

  • 26、What do you do if you're stranded(处于困境的)on a lonely island? Surely you need to find a way to get in touch with the outside world. Your best chance of doing this is to draw the attention of a passing plane.

    Body signals(信号)

Pilots from different countries understand body signals if they have the correct training. When you wave your arms up and down in a straight line, it means "yes". When you point downwards and swing your arm from side to side, it means "no". If you want the pilot to know that it's safe to land, push your hands out in front of you and bend(弯曲)your knees. If you want to say that it's not safe to land, put your arms in the air and move them to one side.

    Smoke signals

The smoke from a fire can be seen from far away, so it's a good way to draw attention. If the weather is dry, it isn't hard to start a fire. Remember, however, that fires can be very dangerous if they get out of control. Never light a fire unless you're sure that it can't spread. If the ground is dark, light smoke can be seen more easily. Green grass and leaves produce light smoke.

    Ground-to-air signals

It's a good idea to build some signals, too. Use large pieces of wood to make the symbols(标记). If you can't find any wood, use earth. Some useful symbols are:

F "I need food and water."

    II "I need medicine."

    I "I am badly hurt."

X" I am unable to move from here."

    Pilots' replies

If the pilot lowers the plane's wings from side to side, this means "message received and understood". (At night, the pilot flashes the plane's green lights.) If the pilots flies the plane in a clockwise circle, this means "message received but not understood".(At night, the pilot flashes the plane's red lights.)

However, there is no signal which means "message not received". Why not?

【1】Which picture means "it's not safe land"?

【2】What can we learn from the passage?

    A. Swinging your arm from side to side means "yes".

    B. If the ground is dark, light smoke can't be seen.

    C. If you need some medicine, make a symbol "II".

    D. The pilots make replies with a blue light at night.

【3】What is the passage mainly about?

    A. The explanation of building signals on an island.

    B. The importance of making signals on an island.

    C. Ways of sending out signals on a lonely island.

    D. Ways of receiving signals from a lonely island
