四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、 【1】 But I could never understand her habit of cheering while we were walking in the race.

We walked together all over the town and entered half-marathons(半马拉松), 26 miles.   2

I carried it to the starting line along. It had twenty-six cheering ideas, one for each mile. But I wasn’t really planning to slow myself down with all those ideas. I had to keep her list because I didn’t want to hurt Tina’s feelings.

3  I looked at Tina’s cheering list when I checked my watch. At the top of the list was only one word: “Yourself.” I thought it did give me a good start to the race. While I was at it, I took the chance to thank her for the strength the list brought to me. By the time I finished the second mile, my parents were cheering me on by the side of the road. It just so happened that “family” was the next on Tina’s cheering list. At that moment, I had plenty of things to be thankful for.

4  But by the time I was close to the final mile, I was nearly out of breath. I didn’t know if I could make it another mile. Then I looked at the final idea on Tina’s list in my hand: “You can make it.”

5 I had thought the cheering list would slow me down. Instead it carried me to cross the finishing line.

    A. She gave me a cheering list to “talk” to me.

    B. I finished the marathon in less than six hours.

    C. Tina was the best speed-walker in our school.

    D. I walked the first mile of the race in 12 minutes.

    E. The next mile flew by, then the next and the next, each with a cheering idea.

  • 25、Dear Readers,

Imagine an 11-year-old child often spends time washing clothes, looking after a baby, and working hard in the fields.

Imagine a little girl who knows there will not be enough food for dinner, who can’t fill her stomach with water because it’s polluted, and who has watched life slip away(消失)from her father and little brother and sister because the family is too poor to see a doctor.

Is it hard to believe? For Mary, these are the real life.

Mary would gladly walk miles to school, but her mother, now alone, needs her badly at home. Mary will grow up without any schooling. What will be her future? In many ways, maybe it will be unlucky. But with just 52 pennies a day, you can sponsor a child like Mary.

To help Mary most, your money is put together with that of other sponsors, so hard-working people can help themselves. Build a school, a hospital, or bring in clean water. This is what “Save the Children” has been about since 1932.

For you there are many rewards(奖励). Have the chance to write to or hear from your sponsored child. Receive photos or progress reports. Know you are reaching out to another person. That’s how “Save the Children” works. But without you, it can’t work. Let’s help a child like Mary and her village.

  • 27、During the European colonization (殖民) of North America, many native languages were given up. As a result, many children were stopped from using their own languages. Today, there are about 180,000 Inuit people in the world and fewer than 40,000 can speak Inuktitut, one of the dialects (方言) spoken by the Inuit.

There are about 65,000 Inuit living in Canada. Miali is a 40-year-old student at University of Calgary who is majoring in (主修) International Indigenous (本地的) Studies. She has spent much of her life fighting for Indigenous rights. As one of the few people who still speak Inuktitut, she shows great interest in spreading the language to keep it from dying out completely.

Asking why this is important is just like asking why water is important, said Miali. “We need it, and there’s an innate (天生的) need inside us searching for a part of ourselves we can identify with (认同). I want to give people their language, and allow them to understand something they’ve been searching for.”

Miali has been teaching others in Inuktitut for 10 years now. She dreamed of taking her task even further, so in 2021, she started an online course to teach the language to anyone who wants to learn it, no matter where they live. She offers the course through her business, Allurvik, which also sells a variety of Inuit-made products and services. She even makes videos in both English and Inuktitut.

Miali believes that speaking their native languages helps them connect to their ancestors and land. This connection is grown in their culture helping them understand who they are and how they fit into their communities. She’s pleased to be able to use technology to bring her language to anyone in the world.

“Many people want to learn Inuktitut but don’t have the supports in place,” she said. “All I want to do is to make Inuktitut a little more available, especially to the Inuit people who want to learn and anyone else who’s interested in it. I hope my work also encourages others to make Indigenous languages more widely available.”

【1】Why does Miali try her best to spread Inuktitut?

A.Because there are many Inuit in the world.

B.Because she wants to stop it from disappearing

C.Because she wants Inuktitut to be popular in the world.

D.Because she wants more Inuit people to speak their own language.

【2】What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?

A.The time when Miali teaches Inuktitut

B.The places where Miali teaches Inuktitut.

C.The reasons why Miali works as a teacher.

D.The ways Miali provides teaching services.

【3】What can we learn from the last paragraph?

A.Inuktitut is getting more and more popular.

B.Miali is trying to help people learn Inuktitut.

C.Miali wants more people to help teach Inuktitut.

D.Inuktitut is so difficult that few people learn it.

【4】What is the structure of the passage?

    A.

    B.

    C.

    D.
