二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、   I used to be crazy about the hunting season. The excitement of waiting for a prey(猎物)and the pride of showing off the kill fascinated me. However, everything changed after that cold morning.

Early on that day of the late fall, I set off alone for the woods, packing a gun, a bottle of hot coffee and three thick sandwiches. After finding the fresh deer’s tracks in the snow, I settled down behind a little bush.

I sat there for about an hour. It was then that I saw him. A deer, a big beautiful deer! There was no cover nearer to him than 30 yards. Surely I couldn’t miss! I waited for him to realize I was there. I waited for him to be shocked and run away. But he fooled me completely. He came towards me! He was curious, I suppose, or maybe he was stupid---how else can you explain it? Well, that deer walked right up to where I was sitting. Then he stopped and looked at me!

What happened next is hard to believe, but it’s true. And it all seemed quite natural. Just as when a friendly young deer comes near you, I reached up and scratched his head. And he liked to be scratched. In fact, he practically asked for more. Then, I fed him my sandwich! Yes, I know what a deer eats, but that deer ate my sandwich. Well, he finally went his way, down the hill and up the deer trail. Shoot him? Not me. You wouldn’t have either, not after that. I just watched him go.

When I was about half way back, I heard two shots, followed by a dull slam(撞击)a few seconds later. Those two shots usually mean a kill. I had forgotten there were other hunters that day.

Those hunters would never know they could have scratched his head.

1Why didn’t the author kill the deer?

A.He preferred to shoot a shy deer. B.He was fooled by the tricky deer.

C.He was sympathetic for the deer. D.He was too shocked to shoot the deer.

2What most probably happened to the deer in the end?

A.Other hunters shot the deer to death.

B.Other hunters scratched the deer’s head too.

C.The deer managed to escape from being shot.

D.The deer would become friends with the author.

3What’s the best title of this text?

A.A Hunting in Late Fall. B.A Lovely Deer.

C.The Cruel Killing. D.The Last Hunting.

  • 23、Children's fiction typically refers to any type of fictional work of writing that is written specifically for children. 【1】 The most common types include those told in poem form, stories for very young children, and works meant for older children. They can include older and traditional stories, such as nursery rhymes and fairy tales, as well as more modem stories that have been written more recently. Many works of children's fiction use songs and rhythms. 【2】

Though some children's fiction is intended for children of all ages, many works are specifically written for younger or older children. Picture books, for example, are often written for very young children, including toddlers(学步的小孩)and those just beginning to develop language. 【3】 They are frequently written in poem form as well, and can feature word choices that are intended to help young children begin to develop language. They have a very small vocabulary, frequently repeating words to allow children to hear them many times.

Children's fiction that is written for older children, on the other hand, may deal with more complex ideas that older children can understand. 【4】 This allows children who are learning to read to practice with words that are repeated and familiar, while still exposing them to a wide range of words. These works of children’s fiction often still have pictures, though there may be more words than pictures. 【5】 They help children move from picture books toward children's literature and young adult books.

A.These books are often quite short in length.

B.They are typically meant as a bridge for children.

C.Kids aren5t the only ones reading children’s fiction.

D.There are many different types of children's fiction.

E.Books for young readers often deal with very interesting topics.

F.This allows such works to be more easily read aloud to young children.

G.These works may also repeat words, but often have a larger vocabulary.

  • 24、   The Wall Street Journal recently published an excellent article penned by Wendy Bounds on a hot topic here at MNN: the air-purifying qualities of the common house plant. Given that the air inside your home can be 2 to 5 times more polluted than the air outside of it, making it clean with plants like peace lily (百合花) and asparagus fern (芦笋蕨) is an economical. artistically pleasing alternative to air purifiers. So it’s been acknowledged that a bunch of pretty putted houseplants can help you maintain a healthier home, but a smarter home?

That' s the question in light of a recent study published by the Journal of Environmental Psychology showing that the presence of plants in a room, particularly in an office environment, can shrink attention span (范围). Struggling directive attention (the kind of attention that takes effort) can be refreshed  through exposure ho to naturalistic environments. Basically, taking a walk through the park can clear one’s head. But can a head be refreshed simply by being surrounded by houseplants?

To test their theory, the study’s authors rounded up a bunch of participants, put some of them in a mom with no plants and put others in a room with our plants placed around a desk, and put them all to the same series of tests. First was a Rearing Span Teat which involves reading a series of sentences aloud and remembering the Last word in each sentence. This task requires that you fluently switch between attention demanding tasks: from rending and memorizing at one moment. to writing and recalling at the next. Next came a proofreading task fallowed by another Reading Span Test.

The results? Participants working in the room with the plants improved their performance from the first Reading Span Test to the second while those working in the room lacking in greenery did not. Consequently, the benefits of working among plants is indeed evident.

1What do we know from the first paragraph?

A.Staying indoors can help avoid the poorer air outdoors.

B.Houseplants can Function as beautiful cheap air purifiers.

C.Planting polled flowers as decorations is very interesting.

D.Air purifiers are the most effective to create a healthy home.

2What does the underlined part in paragraph 2 probably refer to?

    A.Focus one’s attention. B.Disturb one’s attention.

    C.weaken one’s attention. D.Turn one’s attention away.

    3What does the test prove?

A.Working in nature helps increase productivity.

B.Houseplants will be in great demand in our life.

C.Greenery creates healthier naturalistic atmosphere indoors.

D.Working among houseplants improves mental functioning.

4What can be a suitable title for the text?

A.Flowers: Grand Feast to Eyes B.Greenery: Effective Air-purifier

C.Houseplants: Visual Brain Food D.Potted Plants: Great! House-beautifier
