25、 Students from two schools, The City School in Nigeria and Heathland School in the UK, recently took part in a project to compare their education and find out about student life in a very different country. As expected, they found many differences but also a few things that are similar.
The City School is in a district just outside Nigeria’s capital, Abuja. The school is surrounded (环绕) by big trees and grassy fields that the children use to play football on. Heathland School is in a quiet suburb not far from central Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland.
Most of the 580 students at The City School are taught in pleasant one-storey yellow-brick buildings although some building work still needs to be done. Heathland School dates from the 1950s but some new facilities (设施) have been added recently.
Although The City School receives financial (财政的) help from the government, students still
have to pay school fees. It’s hard to find the money sometimes and quite a few parents struggle to keep their children in school. Unlike the Nigerian school, students at Heathland School only have to buy their uniforms and pay for some extra activities.
Teachers and students at The City School are proud of their library and the science laboratory. They say that there’s not a school in the area that can match it. The school concentrates (专注于) on traditional subjects like Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry because this will make it easier for students to get into a good profession. Practical subjects like Farm Technology are also popular.
Heathland School recently became a performing arts college. This means that in addition to subjects like English and Mathematics, the school also offers lessons in Dance, Drama and Music as choices for all students. There is a new dance studio which can also be used as a theatre.

9:20 pm I am Falling Asleep
You're about to sleep when suddenly you feel like falling. You even dream you are falling off a cliff. Your body jerks(抽搐). What's happening? Well, you are falling-asleep. Your body relaxes, but your brain is still active and when your muscles become less tense, your brain senses that you are in danger of falling. To save you, your brain sends a signal.
10:00 pm Did You Hear That?
Soon a loud sound breaks the peace. What? You are snoring. When this happens, you breathe through your mouth, and as you take in air, it makes the soft tissue(组织) at the back of your throat vibrate(振动). The bad news is that you may snore more as you get older, especially if you are a boy. The good news is that snoring is not usually a serious problem, unless of course, you wake up your little brother or sister.

Some sleepers get really busy during the first few hours of the night. Sleep walking, sleep talking and even bed wetting can be caused by the disagreement between your brain and your body. 7:00 am But My Arm Is Still Asleep
Time to wake up, as you begin to move, a strange feeling floods down from your shoulder. Oh no, pins and needles! When pressure on your arm keeps the nerves(神经)from sending any messages to the brain, your arm loses all feelings. Don't worry if you wake up and your arm is still asleep. It'll be wide awake soon.

27、 In students' daily talks, celebrities(名人)are usually a hot topic, including their dress, behavior, families and other personal things. Then, is it a celebrity's job to be a good role model? Please read the following students' debate.
It's a celebrity's job to be a good role model because people usually look up to stars. If a celebrity drinks and smokes, his fans will follow him because they look up to the celebrity so much. If a celebrity's lifestyle is inappropriate for kids, then their parents should be more careful about what they let their kids see. | A celebrity doesn't have to try to be a good role model. They are famous because they worked hard at what they love for a living. They should, however, try to make good choices for themselves, not their fans. Lots of stars have to post apology(道歉)letters after being caught doing bad things. It's good, but if the only reason they do is to win back their fans, it's not good. | ||
I think everyone should try to be a good role model, even if you are not a celebrity! You can still be a role model to your sisters and brothers, a younger neighbour, or anyone. But I think celebrities should be very good, because they are role models for so many people! | Although it is a wonderful thing to be a good role model, that's not what the celebrities must do. They are famous because they love what they do and are good at it. Being a role model is never in the job.
