21、Last year, my husband and I decided to visit New Zealand. We wanted to tour the country, but we both hate long car journeys. Our travel agent advised a 13-day coach trip(长途客车旅行). It was a good price, so we booked (预订) it and our plane tickets to Christchurch. We made a good choice. The coach journeys passed quickly and our driver told us about each place. We learned a lot from him.
We flew from London to Christchurch and had a free day there before the coach trip started. We weren’t at all _________, so we walked around the city from morning to night. It has good museums, many restaurants and lovely shops.
The most unforgettable place we visited on the trip was Queenstown. We had three days there, but it wasn’t enough. We did lots of things there, from sailing(乘船航行) to climbing. At the end of each day, we felt we had no energy(精力) at all. But the next morning it seemed that everything was fresh again!
All the hotels we lived in were good. My favorite one was the Puka Park Lodge. It was on a hill above a beach and there were trees everywhere. We woke up and listened to the birds singing. Now, when we’re eating breakfast at home and we hear the noise of the traffic (路上行驶的车辆), we think of those beautiful mornings in New Zealand!

22、 If cars could drive themselves, what would the world be like? Imagine(设想)seeing an empty car passing by on its way to pick up its owner, or a car full of passengers who are reading, listening to music or even sleeping. But none of them are worried about the road ahead.
Well, all of this could be the future of driving. There are several companies, including Google, working on driverless(无人驾驶的)cars. So far, no Google self-driven car has gotten a traffic ticket, but some of them have been in accidents when other cars hit them. These cars are now still in the testing stages(阶段).But, if the tests are successful, these electric self-driven cars could be put into use very soon.
The cars already have many features(特点)allowing them to take over from drivers during certain situations. Some features include cars being able to park(停车)themselves, or slow down when they notice objects close by. They can also control the speed if there are dangerous conditions.
Scientists and engineers believe, with the help of wireless signals(无线信号), cameras and GPS, we are now at a stage where creating a safe self-driven car might be possible.
The cause of deadly road accidents is usually careless drivers or dangerous conditions. The self-driven car may be able to prevent(阻止)these. However, some people do not like the idea. American lawyer Whit Drake, for example, doesn't believe these cars are safe. He thinks that technologies(技术)can also be mistakes.

24、
The Paper Boy
Before I could turn 10, I had lost my parents. To support myself and my education, I began to deliver newspapers.
I would get up every morning at 5 am and walk five kilometers from Hydery to the newspaper office in Bazar. By 6 am, I would collect 50 copies of newspaper which must have weighed over five kilos. After delivering them, I would rush home, another three kilometers away, cook my breakfast, eat quickly and go to school.
One morning, I found a boy of my age at my doorstep. He introduced himself as Jimmy and said his parents wanted to see me. I guessed they wished to subscribe to (订阅) the newspaper, so I followed him to his place nearby.
Jimmy's mother opened the door. She served me a large plate of snacks and fruit salad. It was a rich breakfast, one that brought back memories of the happy time with my parents. As I was about to leave, Jimmy's father, Mr. Kader, appeared with a new bicycle.
"This is for you!" He said, patting my shoulder.
"But I have no money!" I replied.
"Who is asking you to pay for this, my son?" He continued.
It took me a few seconds to sense the warm moment. I didn't even realize my tears were rolling down my face. Jimmy's mother held me closely. It was like home, as if my mother were there.
I bowed, thankfully, and left. This time, I didn't have to walk—I had the bicycle!
The bicycle saved my life for many years thereafter and taught me a lifelong lesson: Help should always be need-based.
