二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 26、   You know you have to read “between the lines” to get the most out of anything. I want to persuade you to do something equally important in the course of your reading. I want to persuade you to “write between the lines”. Unless you do, you are not likely to do the most efficient kind of reading.

I insist, quite bluntly, that marking up a book is not an act of damage but of love. There are two ways in which one can own a book. The first is the property right you establish by paying for it, just as you pay for clothes and furniture. But this act of buying is only the first step to possession. Full ownership comes only when you have made it a part of yourself, and the best way to make yourself a part of it is by writing in it. A comparison may make the point clear. You buy a piece of beef and transfer it from the butcher's icebox to your own. But you do not own the beef in the most important sense until you eat it and get it into your blood. I am arguing that books, too, must be absorbed in your blood to do you any good.

There are three kinds of book owners. The first has all the standard sets and bestsellers — unread, untouched. The second has a great many books — a few of them read through, most of them dipped into, but all of them as clean and shiny as the day they were bought. The third has a few books or many — every one of them worn, shaken and loosened by continual use, marked and scribbled (涂写) in from front to back.

Why is marking up a book necessary to reading it? First, it keeps you awake.(And I don’t mean only conscious; I mean wide awake. ) In the second place, reading, if it is active, is thinking, and thinking tends to express itself in words, spoken or written. The marked book is usually the thoughtthrough book. Finally, writing helps you remember the thoughts you had, or the thoughts the author expressed.

1The third kind of owners of books must be ______.

    A.experienced readers B.untidy readers

    C.active readers D.careless readers

    2Marking up a book means ______.

    A.writing down difficult sentences

B.finding the extra meanings of unknown words

C.writing in the space the ideas you get through careful reading

D.making notes to show you understand what you have read

3What does the author persuade you to mark?

A.Whatever you have given deep thought to while reading.

B.Words and sentences that bring up rich ideas.

    C.Primary questions that challenge you.

D.Whatever disagreements you may have with the book

4A great advantage of marking up a book is ______.

A.to absorb all the brilliant ideas it contains

B.to make yourself a part of it

C.to make yourself conscious that you are reading actively

D.to enable yourself to pick up the book for continual reading

  • 27、   In the universe, there is the sun, the moon, the earth and many stars. Through our geography lessons, we know the earth goes around the sun, and the moon goes round the earth. We have day and night because the earth keeps turning all the time. When our part of the earth turns to the sun, it is day. When our part of the earth turns away from the sun, it is night. The other part of the earth is always contrary.

Just because the moon is closer to the earth than the sun, it looks much bigger than the sun. Big things will look smaller when they are further, and small things also look bigger when they are nearer.

The sun is big enough to give out very strong light. The moon can’t give any light at all, but it looks quite bright, too. Why? In fact, the light from the moon comes from the sun. The moon looks much bigger and brighter than the stars. But in fact, the stars are much bigger and brighter than the moon. They look smaller than the moon also because they are further away from the earth.

Earth is so important because living things and people can only live on the earth. And some countries have sent astronauts to the space to learn more about the universe. At 9:00 a.m. on October 15th, 2003, Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei was sent up to space. He stayed there for 21 hours. It was the first time for Chinese to get into space.

【1】We find the sun is ________ than the moon because it is ________ to us.

    A.bigger; farther

    B.smaller; closer

    C.bigger; closer

    D.smaller; farther

【2】When did the astronaut from our country return to the earth?

    A.On November 15th, 2002.

    B.On October 16th, 2003.

    C.On May 15th, 2004.

    D.On October 15th, 2003.

【3】Which of the best title of the passage?

A.The moon goes around the earth, and the earth goes round the sun.

B.The sun gives out strong light while the moon can’t.

C.All the living things and people can only live on the earth.

D.The sun, the moon and the earth.

  • 28、   I have traveled to many places-the jungles where the water is unsafe places with the wildest animals. Friends always ask why I,a middle-aged woman with no athletic talent,go to such places. I never know how to answer - Just I want to put my toes in the mud of adventure.

I stopped traveling nine years ago after I suffered a stroke (中风)caused by a disease, APS. To prevent another stroke, my doctors told me that traveling to remote places without medical help would be risky. A slip on a damp temple step, even a slight traffic accident, would no longer be mere annoyances.

My return to travel after my stroke came in baby steps —a feast in Texas a visit to my mom in Virginia, They all came back, the freedom, the excitement and the fresh air.

The first real test of my travel courage came nine months after my stroke when I joined my husband in visiting China. After we had toured a temple, Jack wanted to ride down on a toboggan (平底雪橇).Before the stroke it would have seemed like fun for me. But now I stepped back. I feared. My mind screamed warnings of a fall or a crash. Then gathering confidence from nowhere,I lowered myself and took the flying toboggan ride, which marked my adventure travel's coming back. Since then, I’ve dared to take challenges and have challenged many places.

But I watch my medicine like an eagle. I get my blood tested. I weigh the risks. Then, if I decide it’s okay, like that toboggan ride down the mountain, I just jump in, let go and enjoy the ride. I think I travel for hoping to broaden my world and keep me connected with friends and families. Most of all, saying "yes” to travel is related to my APS. If I let myself be afraid to travel, then my APS will win.

1How do the author’ friends react to her adventures?

    A. They try to stop her. B. They don't understand her.

    C. They admire her. D. They are inspired.

2What do we know about the author's return to travel?

    A. She followed her doctor's advice.

    B. She gradually overcame challenges.

    C. She was encouraged by her husband.

    D. She got more enthusiastic about toboggan.

3What does the visit in China mean to the author?

    A. A turning point. B. A fun experience.

    C. A health alarm. D. A life-and-death test.

4What's the main reason for the author to continue her adventures now?

    A. To relax herself. B. To broaden her mind.

    C. To keep herself connected. D. To fight her disease.

These are sweet words for delivery firms and online retailers(零售商), Amazon included, that are setting up_______ with lock manufacturers to overcome a big hurdle for e-commerce.

Traditional l deliveries fail so_______ that a parcel is driven to a home an average of 1.5 times in the Nordic region, says Kenneth Verlage, head of business development at PostNord, a logistics(物流) giant operating in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. It is an expensive _______ made worse, he says, by the fact that recipients have still often had to wait for a failed delivery. Some couriers leave packages on doorsteps, but this_______ theft. THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

    In Congress, July 4, 1776

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s god entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should d1 the causes which impel them to the separation.

We h2 these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created e3, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable R4, that among these are life, L5, and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, g 6 are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the P 7 to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, l8 its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such f9, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience has shown, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariable the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their d 10, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.

    My daughter

(A story told by a father, a famous actor)

My wife and I only had the one child. We had Amy.

I see her as my best friend. I think she’d always come to me first if she had a problem. We have the same sense of humor, and share interests. 1 I don’t mind animals, she’s completely fascinated with them, and she has always had dogs, cats, horses, and goldfish in her life.

We were 2 (close) when she was about four, which I think is a lovely age for a child. They know the parents best, and don’t have outside contacts. She must have grown up suddenly when she went to school, because I remember her growing away from her family slightly. Any father who has a teenager daughter comes across an extraordinary collection of people, and there seemed to be an endless stream of strange young men 3 (come) through our house. By the time I learned their names they 4 (go) away and I had to start learning a new lot.

I wanted more than anything else for her to be happy in 5 she was doing, and I was prepared to pull strings to help her on her way. When she left a good school she decided she wanted to become an actress so I got her into drama school. It wasn’t to her liking so she joined a theatre group and began doing bits and pieces in films. She was doing well, but then gave it up. She probably found it boring. Then she took up social work, and finally went to work 6a designer and he became her husband. And that’s really the story of her life. She must be happy with him—they’re always together.

We have such similar tastes in books and music 7 I used to take her to see an opera, which is my big passion. However, I don’t think she likes it very much. She doesn’t come with me anymore.

I don’t think she’s a big television watcher. She knows when I’m on the television, and she 8 watch, but I don’t know. It’s not the kind of thing she tells me.

We’re very grateful for Amy. She’s a good daughter as daughters go. We’re looking forward to being grandparents.

A little boy selling magazines for school walked up to a house that people hardly visited. The house was very old and the owner hardly ever came out. When he did come out he would not say hello to neighbors or passers by but simply just glare(瞪眼看)at them.

The boy knocked on the door and waited, sweating from fear of the old man. The boy's parents told him to stay away from the house. A lot of the other neighborhood children were told the same from their parents.

As he was ready to walk away, the door slowly opened. " What do you want?" the old man said. The little boy was very afraid but he had a quota(份额) to meet for school with selling the magazines.

"Uh, sir, I uh am selling these magazines and uh I was wondering if you would like to buy one." The old man just stared at the boy. The boy could see inside the old man's house and saw that he had dog figurines(小狗雕像) on the wall. "Do you collect dogs?" the little boy asked. "Yes, I have many collections in my house. They are my family here. They are all I have." The boy then felt sorry for the man, as it seemed that he was a very lonely soul. "Well, I do have a magazine here for collectors. It is perfect for you. I also have one about dogs since you like dogs so much." The old man was ready to close the door on the boy and said, "No boy, I don't need any magazines of any kind, now goodbye."

The little boy was sad that he was not going to make his quota with the sale. He was also sad for the old man being so alone in the big house that he owned. The boy went home and then had an idea. He had a little dog figurine that he got some years ago from an aunt. The figurine did not mean nearly as much to him since he had a real live dog and a large family.

Paragraph 1: The boy headed back down to the old man's house with the figurine.
