一、翻译题 (共1题,共 5分)
  • 1、阅读下面的短文,将划线部分译成英文或中文。

Yang Peijie, 71, has been performing Haian flower-drum dances(海安花鼓)for more than fifty years.

The Haian flower-drum dance dates back to more than 400 years. It became popular in the areas of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River in the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644). 1. 在过去,它被用来展现当地人们的生活。“It’s more gentle compared to flower-drum dances in other places such as in Anhui and Hunan, ” Yang said. Many of its dance steps came from daily life and express positive feelings. For example, fengbailiu (风摆柳) means you have to twist (弯曲) your body like the wind blowing willow trees.

Yang started to learn the dance from old artists in the 1960s. At that time, people could only learn it this way. There were no textbooks. 2. Worrying it might get lost, Yang spent five years studying the history of the dance and recorded its steps in detail. He visited almost all the local artists and wrote a book about it.

           3. In recent years, Yang has kept on spreading the dance among all age groups. He set up a team to work on this. The team members have visited about eight schools to teach students. It has been combined (结合)with break-time exercises in many schools. 4. To interest kids, they separate difficult dance steps into several simple ones. Xu Hongxuan, a pupil from Haian Elementary School said, “I have been practicing it for three years. I think it’s more interesting than the radio gymnastic exercises(广播体操). We beat drums to the music in all kinds of ways. Some dance steps are difficult, 5. 但当我掌握了它们之后,我感到开心和自豪。 Now I am a member of the flowerdrum dance club. ”

Besides schools, Yang and the team members also go to communities and parks to teach older people. “I don’t want to see the art fail to be passed down from me, ” Yang said.

四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、I bought a jasmine (茉莉花)plant for my office. When I bought it, I was told it would bloom(开花) and the sweet smell would fill my office. I had the plant for two months, and every day I looked at it, but there weren’t any flowers or pleasant smell. I was not happy, so I gave the plant to my friend Linda.

One day, another friend Mary called and invited me to her office. When I walked in, her jasmine flowers surprised me. I reached out to touch the flowers. Mary cut some and gave them to me. I couldn’t help smelling them. Surrounded by the sweet smell of only a handful of these flowers, I suddenly understood something. Mary bought her plant the same time I did. It took a year for her jasmine to bloom. I was so impatient for mine to bloom. Regretfully, I gave it away.

In a way, my life is like the jasmine plant. I need to be patient and let things happen.

Last Sunday Linda told me that she was going abroad the next week. Before she left, she returned the plant to me. This time I am going to wait. I have learned that when we want something in our life, we have to be patient. I am slowly learning to have that patience to wait for my jasmine to bloom.

    根据短文内容判断正(T)误(F)

【1】Before she gave the jasmine away, the writer had it for two weeks.

【2】When the writer saw Mary’s jasmine, she felt surprised.

【3】Mary returned the plant to me because of leaving.

【4】The writer couldn’t wait to see the plant bloom this time.

【5】The writer knew something important from this experience.

  • 25、An Uber driver stopped her work day so she could help a new mother with a sick child.

Nicole Ihus’s son John Henry was born last month with a rare disease called congenital diaphragmatic hernia (先天性横膈疝气). Nicole and her husband, who live in Kansas City, got much touch with doctors, hoping to find a doctor who could treat John Henry for the condition—but to no avail.

Luckily, Nicole managed to get in contact with the “best doctor in the world for this condition” in St. Petersburg, Florida—so she travelled all the way to give her newborn son a fighting chance.

After John Henry was sent to the hospital, Nicole felt sad and alone in the new state, although she knew that she had to leave her son’s side in order to buy him some new clothes.

After ordering an Uber ride to the nearby children’s clothing store, she was picked up by a woman named Belinda. Shortly after Nicole got into Belinda’s car, the new mother couldn’t help but told her heartbreaking story.

“She told me her story,” Belinda said. “She was in tears a couple of times and I was really worried about her.”

Rather than simply dropping Nicole off at the store, however, Belinda parked the car and firmly decided to go with her passenger into the store.

“I asked her, ‘Are you serious?’ I can even imagine,” said Nicole. “For this stranger to go completely out of her way—stop what she was doing and stop making money—to come to be with me for a couple of hours while we shopped together, that was just unbelievable and gave me much comfort.”

  • 27、  When Christie Andrews was born, she weighed less that half of one kilogram. Her heart was the size of a large coin. Her mother said Christie was so small that she could hold her in the palm of one hand.

Christie couldn’t breathe without a machine to give her oxygen. If she had been born 20 years earlier, she would probably have died at once. She needed two operations, but she survived without serious damage.

Twenty years ago , 90% of all premature(早产) babies died. Today, doctors manage to save four out of every five, because they have better machines for breathing and better ways to feed the babies.

But saving Christie’s life cost more than $ 400,000. In some cases, doctors spend 1 million dollars saving a single child. The parents usually don’t have enough money to pay. The government, an insurance company or the hospital picks up the bill. Even after a baby goes home from the hospital, it may require medical care.

Some people think it makes more sense to spend money saving 10 adults who have cancer or other diseases than saving one small baby. But nobody wants to be the doctor who has to tell parents to their faces, “Sorry, I won’t save your new child.”

【1】Parents don’t pay their babies’ hospital bills because .

    A. they don’t have enough money

    B. they would rather save cancer patients

    C. doctors don’t care if the babies die

    B. the baby may require medical care after it leaves the hospital

    C. doctors always charge more than they should

    D. four out of five premature babies can now be saved

3From the story we know that saving a cancer patient .

    A. is easier than saving a baby

    B. is harder than saving a baby

    C. is cheaper than saving a baby

    D. is more common than saving a baby

4The main idea of the article is .

    A. doctors must never decide whether to save babies or cancer patients

    B. doctors are able to save premature babies, but the cost is very high

    C. having a premature baby was cheaper and safer 20 years ago

    D. Christie survived because the hospital paid her bills
