Yang Peijie, 71, has been performing Haian flower-drum dances(海安花鼓)for more than fifty years.
The Haian flower-drum dance dates back to more than 400 years. It became popular in the areas of the Yangtze River and the Huaihe River in the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644). 1. 在过去,它被用来展现当地人们的生活。“It’s more gentle compared to flower-drum dances in other places such as in Anhui and Hunan, ” Yang said. Many of its dance steps came from daily life and express positive feelings. For example, fengbailiu (风摆柳) means you have to twist (弯曲) your body like the wind blowing willow trees.
Yang started to learn the dance from old artists in the 1960s. At that time, people could only learn it this way. There were no textbooks. 2. Worrying it might get lost, Yang spent five years studying the history of the dance and recorded its steps in detail. He visited almost all the local artists and wrote a book about it.
3. In recent years, Yang has kept on spreading the dance among all age groups. He set up a team to work on this. The team members have visited about eight schools to teach students. It has been combined (结合)with break-time exercises in many schools. 4. To interest kids, they separate difficult dance steps into several simple ones. Xu Hongxuan, a pupil from Haian Elementary School said, “I have been practicing it for three years. I think it’s more interesting than the radio gymnastic exercises(广播体操). We beat drums to the music in all kinds of ways. Some dance steps are difficult, 5. 但当我掌握了它们之后,我感到开心和自豪。 Now I am a member of the flowerdrum dance club. ”
Besides schools, Yang and the team members also go to communities and parks to teach older people. “I don’t want to see the art fail to be passed down from me, ” Yang said.

Nearly 500 years before Christopher Columbus, brave Viking seamen crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Vikings were the first Europeans to reach North America. They lived in a par of Northern Europe called Scandinavia. Most Vikings were peaceful farmers, traders, and talented workmen. But they were also excellent shipbuilders.
Viking ships were smartly and creatively designed. They were well-built with common wood and strong enough to sail hundreds of miles on the open sea. They were light enough to be carried over land. When there was no wind, the seamen could row the ships with oars(船桨).
Vikings traveled far in search of goods such as silk, glass, and silver. Some Vikings sailed west and lived on the islands of Iceland and Greenland from then on. Between 997 and 1003 A.D., a Viking named Leif Eriksson landed in what is now Canada. 27、Born into a farmer’s family, life was not easy when I was a kid. We were so poor that we often did not know where our next meal was coming from. I had to sell cabbages at the marketplace to support my family.
A storyteller once came to the marketplace, and I went to listen to him. My mother was unhappy with me for forgetting my job. But that night, while she was making clothes for us under the weak light of an oil lamp, I couldn't help retelling stories I'd heard that day. She listened impatiently at first, since in her eyes professional (职业的) storytellers were smooth-talking men—nothing good ever came out of their mouths. But slowly she was attracted by my retold stories, and from that day on, she never gave me any task on market days, unspoken agreement to enjoy new stories. As a repayment(回报)for Mother's kindness and a way to show off my memory, I'd retell the stories for her in lively detail. Soon, she wasn't the only member of my audience, which later included my elder sisters, my aunts, even my stubborn grandmother.
I knew she was worried about me. Talkative kids are not well thought of in our village, for they can bring trouble to themselves and to their families when they talk too much. Mother often reminded me not to talk so much, wanting me to be a silent and modest teenager. However, my natural desire(渴望)to talk never went away, and that is what makes my name – Mo Yan, which means ‘no speaking’. This strong wish to talk also improved my ability to express myself, which is important for writers who are also considered as storytellers.
【1】Mo Yan lived a/an ________ life when he was young.
A. difficult B. colourful C. easy D. rich
【2】From the second paragraph, we can learn that ________.

C. his mother didn’t let him listen to the new stories again
D. little Mo Yan had quite a good memory
【3】Why did his mother dislike the professional storytellers?
A. Because she thought they never said anything good.
B. Because she thought they couldn’t make much money.
C. Because she thought they would affect Mo Yan’s schoolwork.

【4】In Mo Yan’s opinion, a writer should be a ________ child when they were young.
A. silent B. modest
C. talkative D. trouble-making
【5】Which is the best title(标题)of the passage?
A. My Unlucky Childhood
B. A Storyteller’s Childhood
C. My Kind Grandmother
D. More talking leads to success
