四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Now many young people are traveling around the world on their own, not because they have no one to travel with, but because they prefer to go alone.

Kristina Wegscheider from California first traveled alone when she was at college. She believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life. "It opens up your mind to new things." Wegscheider has visited 46 countries.

In foreign countries, with no one to help you read a map, look after you if you get ill, or lend you money if your wallet is stolen, it is challenging. This is what makes young people travel alone. It is seen as character building and a chance to prove(证明)that they can make it on their own.

Chris Rihardson decided to leave his sales job in Australia to go traveling last year. He set up a website, "The Aussie Nomad", to record the people he met, the places he visited, and the things he did. He said he wished he had traveled alone earlier. "Everything is up to you and it forces you to grow as a person", said the 30-year-old man.

Richardson describes traveling alone like "a shot in the arm". "It makes you a more confident person that is ready to deal with anything. I walk around with my head up because I know deep down inside that nothing is impossible if you try." he said.

  • 26、   People need to get moving, according to a new study by the World Health Organization.

According to the study, about 25 percent of adults do not get enough exercise. It hasn’t changed since 2001. Because of this, about 1.4 billion people are in danger of very terrible diseases such as heart disease and cancer.

People should do at least 150 minutes of “moderate intensity (中等强度)’’ exercise each week such as dancing or swimming. They can also do 75 minutes of “vigorous intensity” activity, such as running or playing soccer, according to the WHO.

About how to exercise more, experts suggest we don’t have to go to the gym (健身房) every time. For example, we can go up and down stairs a lot. If we can’t go to a dancing class each week, standing on one leg for 30 seconds a day is very good, too.

The study also found that, around the world, 32 percent of women fail (不能) to exercise enough and 23 percent of men don’t exercise enough. Women prefer to spend more time at home taking care of children and doing housework, Time magazine reported.

Countries with higher incomes(收入) showed less activity. For example, people in Kuwait and the United States exercise less than people in Uganda and Nepal. This is because in developed countries, desk jobs have taken the place of physical labor (体力劳动).

In the study, China is listed as a middle-income county. The study says that 14 percent of Chinese adults don’t exercise enough, much lower than other middle-income countries. What is different from most other countries is that men are less active than women in China, with 16.6 percent of men and 12 percent of women not getting enough exercise.

1From the new study, we learn that ________.

A.more and more adults have exercised a lot these years

B.about a quarter of adults exercise enough in the world

C.many people have diseases because they don’t exercise enough

2What does the underlined word mean in the passage?

    A.低等强度 B.中等强度 C.高等强度

3In the last paragraph, we know that ________.

A.women are more active in doing exercise than men in China

B.women do more exercise than men in most other middle-income countries

C.the adults in China who exercise enough are the fewest in middle-income countries

4According to the passage, which of the following is TURE?

A.In developing countries, people exercise less.

B.Going up and down stairs a lot also helps to get enough exercise.

C.The study shows that women exercise more than men around the world.

5What’s the purpose of the writer?

A.To introduce a new study about how to exercise to us.

B.To show different exercise habits in different countries.

C.To tell us the importance of exercise by showing a study.

  • 27、   Bananas are the perfect snack. Not only they are sweet and delicious, but they are easy to carry around, so you can take them anywhere. Best of all, bananas provide different things that the human body needs!

Bananas grow best in warm places that get lots of rain. They grow on plants that look like trees .The banana plant, however, is considered a herb rather than a tree because it doesn't have a strong, woody stem. The plants can grow as high as 30 feet. When they reach their full height, flowers grow out from the stem. These flowers produce bananas.

Two or three times each year, the plants produce fruit. The bananas grow together, which seem like "hands". A hand is made up of 10 to 20 bananas. Growers sometimes call bananas“fingers". Each bunch ()of bananas has about 15 hands, and so a whole bunch may have as many as 200 bananas and can weigh more than 100 pounds.

After about three months, the bananas are ready to be picked. At this point, they still aren't the sunny yellow color of bananas. Farmers pick them when they’re green. That's how they're shipped to stores. They turn yellow along the way and are ready to be sold.

If you love bananas, you've got a lot of company. Americans have been enjoying bananas since the first shipment arrived in the United States in 1876. Today, Americans eat more bananas than any other fruit. More bananas are sold than apples and grapes together. Every American eats over 26 pounds of bananas each year!

    A.c-b-a-d B.b-c-d-a C.b-c-a-d D.c-b-d-a

    3The underline word “company”means______.

A.a place where people work B.a ship that caries bananas
