四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Have you ever heard of e-waste, which can be produced every dayHow do you deal with your computers, MP4 players and mobile phones when they're broken or you want a new one

Most people just throw them away. With the development of electric industry, e-waste pollution has become a serious problem. According to the United Nations, in 2014, people around the world produced 41.8 million tons of e-waste and only recycled 6.5 million tons. The US was the biggest waster, producing 7.1 million tons. China came second, with 6 million tons.

It's important to pay attention to e-waste. It can either be valuable or harmful, depending on how we deal with it. E-waste is a valuable urban mine. The value of the metals, like gold and silver in the waste around the world, is amazing. And the metals can be reused. But if people throw them away, the toxic(有毒的)chemicals can get into the earth or air, affecting the environment and people's health.

Apple, for example, now recycle people's used products in China when they are buying new ones. The company will test and repair the used ones and sell them at lower prices. To help reduce e-waste, we can also take computers and phones to see if companies offer recycling programs.

1How many tons did the people around the world produce e-waste in 2014?

A.6.15 million tons B.7.1 million tons

C.41.8 million tons D.6 million tons

    2The following can become e-waste EXCEPT ______.

    A.textbooks B.mobile phones C.MP4 players D.computers

3If people throw the metals away, the toxic chemicals can get into the earth or air, it will be ______ to people's heath.

    A.good B.helpful C.valuable D.harmful

4Which statement is TRUE according to Paragraph 4?

A.The recycle Apple products will be sold at higher prices.

B.Some companies offer to recycle the used electronic products.

C.It's better to keep the unwanted electronics in your bedroom.

D.Buying longer lasting electronic products is a good way to reduce e-waste.

French and American doctors have done an operation (手术) together in which the doctors were outside the operating room. This kind of operation is known as robotic operation.

Doctor Marescaux did the operation in an office in New York City last month, while a sixty-eight-year-old woman patient was in a hospital in Strasbourg, France.

A doctor in Strasbourg got the patient ready. He placed medical tools and a small video camera in her stomach area. Doctor Marescaux in New York watched the patient on a video screen. Then he used the computer to send messages to the robot machine.

The robot moved the tools that cut the woman’s gallbladder (胆囊) away. The woman got well soon after the operation and left the hospital two days later.

Experts say the main problem with such a robotic operation is based on high-speed telecommunications (通讯系统) between the doctor and the robot. Technology must be able to send a doctor’s order to a robot to move the tool quickly.

Experts also say a successful robotic operation will improve an operation. For example, the robot can make such smaller movements than a person can. A robot machine can turn tools in ways that a doctor’s hand cannot.

Doctors say such a robotic operation will make safer and better operations in the future. They say it will improve doctor training. It will also mean that doctors could do an operation on people in dangerous places far away. And it could mean that people could have operations done by top doctors without having to travel to the city where the doctors work.

1The underlined phrase “ robotic operation” means ________.

A.a special kind of robot invented by doctors.

B.something done to mend a robot.

C.an operation done by French and American doctors.

D.an operation done far away with the help of a robot.

2We use the robot in the operation because _________.

A.it can send messages in a high speed.

B.even a top doctor can’t do the operation himself.

C.it can make the operation safer and better.

D.operations can be done without doctors.

3Which of the following is NOT right?

A.Robotic operation has been used in the USA.

B.Robotic operation is good for doctor training.

C.Experts speak highly of robotic operation.

D.The robot is used to watch the patient clearly.

4What’s the best title for this passage?

    A.An Operation B.Robotic Operation

C.How to do a Robotic Operation D.The problems of a Robotic Operation

  • 26、Have you ever wanted to try on clothes without going to the trouble of getting undressed? If you have, here’s the device for you: the virtual(虚拟的) fitting room.

The technology, designed by Russian company AR Door, was first tried out in May. When a customer walks into a “fitting” room, they’ll stand in front of a big screen that looks like a mirror. A camera in the mirror, using Microsoft Kinect, monitors a customer’s movement and projects a 3-D image of the clothes onto you while you stand before a screen.

The room also uses augmented reality technology. “Augmented reality allows the customers to choose an item of clothing without having to try it on physically,” the company told the Daily Mail. A customer can spin around to see all angles(角度) of the clothes, and can control the program by pushing virtual buttons.

AR Door is not the only company to be developing technology to help people with the way they look. Japanese company Shiseido recently presented its Magic Mirror, a virtual make-up mirror that allows people to get a full makeover in seconds.

However, the technology is not perfect. The clothes still seem to hang on the surface of the body, rather than look like the customer is actually wearing them. And people shopping for clothes are probably still better off actually trying them on.

In the end, you won’t know how something really looks and feels.

【1】The virtual fitting room is technology that_____________.

    A. allows people to watch a movie while trying on clothes

    B. can help people buy clothes on the Internet

    C. can help people choose clothes without having to try them on

    D. allows people to walk freely in the fitting room

【2】Which of the following is NOT true?

    A. The virtual fitting room was invented in Russia.

    B. The virtual fitting room and the virtual make-up mirror both use the augmented reality technology to help people with the way they look.

    C. The customer can control the program by pushing virtual buttons.

    D. The customer looks like he/she is actually wearing the clothes while using this technology.

【3】In the virtual fitting room, what is on the screen?

    A. A computer B. A fitting room

    C. A camera D. A shop assistant

【4】From the last paragraph, we can learn that____________.

    A. few people shop for clothes in clothing stores

    B. people still need to try on clothes before buying them

    C. the magic mirror is now widely used

    D. the virtual fitting room is perfect

  • 27、   Fighting coronavirus is an experience that will forever be remembered. Now that I've recovered, I'm sharing my story because I want people to take this situation seriously. To turn things around, we have to stay home. We have to fight this battle together — and we have to win.

I think it started on the night my boyfriend and I went to celebrate his sister-in-law's birthday. We didn't think anything of it at the time, of course. The news was just beginning to report the spread of COVID-19 in America. I was still living my life just as I always had — riding the train to work each day, working long hours, and going out with friends and family.

My boyfriend, Luis, began showing symptoms on Monday, but we thought it was a typical cold. Then it took me down. It began with a low fever. I felt really weak. At this point, coronavirus had begun to take over New York. On Tuesday, the headache started. It was so intense that I had to lie down. By the end of the week, everything hurt. Luis and I went to nearby urgent care. After being examined, I chose to be tested, but I didn't receive my results until a week later. The doctor sent me home with advice to take Tylenol (泰诺, 感冒药) but said there was nothing more he could do for me. On the way home, we bought whatever medicine we could find, for the store had run out of Tylenol.

That Saturday evening was the worst. I had a high fever and I couldn't sleep. I was sweating a lot, and my knees, hips, and back were in terrible pain. I lost my sense of taste and smell. Then I developed stomach pain.

As I lay there, I was terrified that there wouldn't be enough doctors, nurses, or beds to help me. The thought of being alone, and possibly dying alone, in the hospital, weighed heavily on my thoughts, and I feared the uncertainty.

My fever finally broke the following Wednesday. It was such a relief. Two days later, the health department called me with the news that I'd tested positive for COVID-19.

Looking back, I really wish that people had taken this virus more seriously earlier. I wish people understood how severe this is. I'm wearing a mask in public from now on. I'm not taking chances. This was really painful, and we got lucky.

1What did the author do to fight coronavirus?

A.She stayed at home and got rest.

B.She fought alone in the hospital.

C.She lived her life just as she always had.

D.She took Tylenol as the doctor suggested.

2How did the author feel about her recovery?

    A.Surprised. B.Lucky. C.Hopeful. D.Proud.

3Why does the author tell us her story?

    A.To record her unforgettable experience.

B.To teach people how to fight coronavirus.

C.To celebrate her victory over coronavirus.

D.To call on people to take the virus seriously.

    阅读下面的短文,掌握其大意,然后从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。

    There’s always hope

I was sitting around the other morning thinking about some of my former(以前的) students. When I do that, my thoughts always turn to Vincent.

Eighteen years ago, on the first day of third grade, when I had my class write something about themselves, he just sat there. So I took him outside to see what was wrong. “You can ___________about something else; anything you want.” I offered .He turned to me and shouted,” I can’t write!” and threw his pencil.

Vincent was difficult and _________ .He acted out. He threw things. He refused to work, to be quiet, to sit down.

So these many years later, I wondered what he was up to. With time on my hands, I googled him and looked him up on Facebook and before long I found him .And after a few texts we agreed to meet. And he told me his _________.

Vincent knew he was smart, but he also knew he couldn’t do what other kids did. He had to move around and talk. For him, sitting still, listening and reading, didn’t __________. The more he tried to do the things on his terms, the more we forced him to do the things on our terms and the angrier he got. The angrier he got, the more trouble he got into.

In other words, we __________ him.

But he wouldn’t let me tell him that. He took full responsibility for his behavior. He remembered feeling _________ for acting out.

That __________ me. Kids like Vincent are always angry about something ;they hold the world responsible for the consequence(后果).

This story also had one of us turning Vincent around. But none of us did that for him. There were no excellent teachers like Annie Sullivan or Jaime Escalante. That didn’t mean we didn’t ___________. I remember countless conversations, trying to understand them, going to his little League games.

It was Vincent who turned Vincent around , along with a junkie (吸毒者) house painter he worked with after failing through high school. This guy clearly scared (惊吓) him straight; talked him into going to ___________.

But it was Vincent who attended classes and got straight A’s for two years .And it was Vincent who got accepted into ten different universities, including Stanford and UW. And it was Vincent who landed a great job at a big tech company.

Vincent is completely different from 18 years ago. I couldn’t be happier for him.

And for me, the ___________is simple but powerful---there’s always hope.
