四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Sara loved cars more than anything else. This spring she thought of building a new kart(小型赛车) to enter for the race. So she asked her dad for help.

“Well,” he said. “How about this: you do some research and then come back to me with a design.”

A week later, Sara brought her notes and drawings to Dad. She named her kart “Blue Lightning”. Dad looked over her work, thinking. “Well, that’s funny,” he said. “Have a try. Just build Blue Lightning as you’ve designed.”

Over three weekends of hard work, Sara turned her design into a real kart. Dad asked her to take it for a test drive. Sara agreed.

After she did that, Sara drove back to Dad. “Well,” she said. “Now I know why you wanted me to have a test drive.”

“Oh, do you?” he said. “Please share.”

“When I drove fast, there was a lot of pushback,” she said. “I think it’s because of the shape.” “Very good!” Dad said.

“So, why didn’t you tell me about that problem in the first place?” Sally asked.

Dad laughed. “Where’s the fun in that? If you give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. But if you teach a man to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime.”

Sara said, “I see. Anyway, designing is half the fun !”

Dad smiled. “Good. Sometimes, learning happens during the process. We learn how to do something right by doing it a few times and making mistakes along the way.”

That encouraged Sara and she worked even harder. When she showed Dad her new go-kart, he nodded with pride.

Finally in the race, Sara wasn’t worried about whether she would win—in her mind, she had already won, by building something better than ever before.

1Why did Sara thought of building a new kart?

A.Because she wanted to practice driving.

B.Because she hoped to enter for a race.

C.Because she liked playing with friends.

D.Because she thought of doing some research

2What did Sally’s dad ask her to do after she built the kart?

A.To enter for the race. B.To take a good rest.

C.To give it a cool name. D.To have a test drive.

3What does Sara’s story mainly tell us?

A.Teaching how to fish brings us a lot of fun. B.Winning a race is more important.

C.Learning happens during the process D.Having enough driving experience is necessary

  • 25、   Whenever the sun dropped and the blue sky came up, my father and I used to climb the mountain near my house. Walking together, my father and I used to have a lot of conversations through which I learned lessons from his experiences. He always told me, “You should have goals like climbing the mountain.” Without the mountain-climbing that we both enjoyed, we couldn’t have enough time to spend together because my father was very busy. I really got a lot from the mountain-climbing. It gave me time to talk with my father and to be in deep thought as well as develop my patience.

Once we climbed a very high mountain. It was so challenging for me because I was only ten years old. During the first few hours of climbing, I enjoyed the flowers and trees, and the birds’ singing. But as time passed, I got a pain in both of my legs. I wanted to quit climbing, but my father said to me, “You can always see a beautiful sky at the top of the mountain, but you can’t see it before you reach the top. Only there can you see all of the nice things, which is just like your life.

At that time, I was too young to understand his words. But later after that, I got to know the meaning of hope in life. I found myself standing at the top of the mountain, and the sky was as clear as crystal.

1The passage tells us that the mountain-climbing was ________ for the father and the son.

A.You will get all you need at the top of the mountain.

B.The sky is always as clear as crystal.

C.You can find life is full of nice things.

    D.Never give up halfway.

4We can infer(推断) from the last paragraph that ________.

A.the writer was very successful in his life

B.the writer reached the top of the mountain

C.though the writer was young, he could understand his father

D.the writer used to stop halfway when he climbed the mountain

  • 26、In fact at the time they seemed to be ordinary events but now everything seems different. I had spent 10 years away from the place where I was born. Even though I made the decision to leave my country by myself I miss a lot of things now. The person that brought me the happiest memories is my best friend. She is the greatest person in the world and I am not exaggerating(吹嘘). She is kind funny polite and always willing to listen and has been a great friend. I always recall (回想) events from our childhood. I think about the school where we met in the first grade and went on until the 5th grade .I think about the talks we had and the things we did together. If someone wants me to describe our friendship I’d say we have been close friends for 17 years and we never got angry with each other. It’s amazing isn’t it? I haven’t been able to do that with anybody else. Sometimes I even feel guilty(有罪的). I miss her more than my own brothers and sisters. And of course besides those memories my kids are number one in my life. I have plenty of beautiful memories with them especially when they were born which also turned out to be a sad moment for both of them because they were premature babies(早产儿). Anyone who has had an experience with a premature baby can figure out what I mean.

    A. She is patient and fun.

    B. She is famous in the world.

  • 27、   One day when government officers were rebuilding a barn(粮仓), they found a mouse hole in a corner and used smoke to force the mice inside the hole to come out.

A while later they saw mice running out, one after another. Then, everyone thought that all the mice had come out. But just as they were about to start to clean up, they saw two mice  getting out of the exit of the hole. After some hard tries, the mice finally got out. The strange thing was that after they came out of the hole, they did not run away at once. It seemed that  one was trying to bite () the tail of the other. Everyone was puzzled, so they stepped closer to take a look. They realized that one of the mice was blind and could not see anything, and the other one was trying to allow the blind mouse to bite on his tail so he could pull the blind one with him to run away.

After seeing what happened, everyone was speechless and lost in thought.  During  meal time, the group of officers sat down in a circle and started to talk about what happened to the  two mice. One man said, “I think the relationship between those two mice was that of emperor and minister.” Another man said: I think the relationship between those two mice was husband and wife. Then a third person said: I think the relationship between those two mice was that of mother and son. The others thought for a while, and felt this was more reasonable. At that moment, the last man looked at other people, and asked: Why did those two mice have to have a certain relationship? Suddenly, the air froze. The group looked back at the him and all lowered their heads in shame, and did not dare to reply. In fact, the greatest love does not depend on benefit, friendship or blood relationship. Instead, it is based on no relationship.

1All the mice was driven away together after the officers used smoke to force them out.  __________

2The last two mice were blind so they didn’t run away at once.  __________

3The officers made several guesses about the relationship between the two mice. __________

  • 29、   Ask your foreign friends or teachers whether they experienced “culture shock” upon moving to China. ________ are, they did.

According to a survey, eighty-five percent of international students have had culture shock. Culture shock is a broad term for the series of personal difficulties that people go through in new places, for the surrounding environment is so different from that where they grow up. It’s usually most extreme for those who can’t speak the language of the place to which they have ________, or for those who aren’t familiar with the social rules, such as what you should do if you meet people for the first time. Both of these things happened to me in China when I moved there in 2011.

So as you can imagine, naturally, I went through the four well-known ________ of culture shock: honeymoon, distress, re-integration and autonomy.

When I arrived at first, I was ________ and optimistic, I thought I was well-prepared for this new life in the new country, and I was eager to find out what I was going to experience later. But quickly I became upset by the cultural differences I encountered, missing how things ________ back home.

By the end of my first year, I had totally lost my self-confidence; I was a bitter, clumsy and sensitive person, and I blamed China for making me that way.

Then, in my second year, I started to ________ some language skills, and I found fun activities to do in my spare time. I made great foreign and Chinese friends, and with their help, I tried hard to learn to appreciate the beauty of Chinese history and culture, which was the thing I always wanted to achieve. To my delight, I succeeded in________ an interest in them. And afterwards, I learned to consider myself a confident and happy laowai.

Today I’m back in the US, where I’m pursuing a PhD at a university in my hometown. It’s been a little ________ to readjust to life in my home country. I suffered at first from “reverse” culture shock, experiencing the four stages in the opposite order.

I started out feeling independent and self-confident, before slowly realizing that I knew my country much less well than I used to. I’d complain loudly about little things, like how I could no longer shout “fuwuyuan!” to get waiters’ ________ to let them know that I was ready to order in a restaurant.

But eventually, I came to realize that what I had thought was my “home” had become an entirely new place while I’d been away. That, by itself, was exciting.
