21、If you have a pet, you've probably wished at some point that it could talk to you.Too bad that's impossible...or is it? Alexis Devine would tell you that her dog can in a way.
Devine,an artist in Tacoma, has had Bunny, a female Sheepadoodle for a year. And in that time, Devine says she’s introduced Bunny to more than 50 words by teaching her to press buttons that play words out loud. For instance,as seen in videos,Devine has posted on social media,if Bunny wants to go to the park, she’ll press a button that says“park”.Or, if she wants to play, she’ll hit the button for“play”.Those posts on TikTok have become wildly popular with 3.4 million followers.
Devine was inspired after finding Christina Hunger,a speech-language pathologist(病理学家)who teaches her dog, Stella, how to communicate with buttons.“My goal before I got her was that I wanted to have the most connected, engaged relationship possible,”Devine said.“I feel like there's so much potential in animal relationships and I really wanted to make the most of it.”
So how does Bunny learn to use the buttons? Devine said a lot of it is from repetition. Normally when Devine adds words, she’s already using the word in conversation with Bunny. The hope, she said, is that Bunny has already built an association with that word. Then, to help her learn the button’s position, Devine will repeat the word and strengthen the behavior after Bunny presses a button.
While Devine and Bunny have fun with the buttons, Devine said they communicate great without them.“I don't want to take away any of her dog-ness,” Devine said.“The buttons are super interesting and they may give us more in-depth insight into what's going on inside a dog's mind, but she already has all the tools she needs to communicate.”
【1】What has Bunny learned to do?
A.To communicate with buttons.
B.To watch videos on social media.
C.To distinguish “park” from “play”.
D.To know over 3.4 million followers
【2】How did Devine teach Bunny the skill?
A.By using words Bunny had already known.
B.By repeatedly associating words with buttons.
C.By turning to a language-speech pathologist.
D.By regularly changing the positions of buttons.
【3】What is Devine's intention of training Bunny?
A.Having an ideal relationship with her pet.
B.Catching eyes on social media like TikTok.
C.Connecting to as many animals as possible.
D.Inspiring more people to care for special dogs.
【4】What does Devine mean by saying “I don't want to take away any of her dog-ness”?
A.She won't teach Bunny words in the future.
B.She'll continue the study about dogs’mind.
C.She enjoys talking with Bunny in other ways.
D.She respects Bunny's way of communicating.
22、 “What kind of rubbish are you?”This question might normally cause anger, but in Shanghai it bas brought about weary complaints over the past few months. On July 1st,the city introduced strict rubbish-sorting regulations that are expected to be used as a model for our country. Citizens must divide their waste into four separate categories and put it into specific public bins. They must do so at scheduled times, when monitors are present to ensure that rules are obeyed and to examine the nature of one's rubbish.
Violators could be hit with fines of up to 200 yuan ($29). For repeat violators, the city can add black marks to their credit records, making it harder for them to obtain hank loans or even buy train tickets.
Shanghai authorities are responding to obvious environmental problem. It produces 9 million tons of garbage a year. But like other cities in china, it lacks a recycling system. Instead, it has relied on rubbish pickers to pick out whatever can be reused. This has limits. As people get wealthier, fewer of them want to do such dirty work. The waste, meanwhile, just keeps piling up. China produces 80 billion pairs of one-off chopsticks a year.
Many citizens appear to support the idea of recycling in general but are frustrated by the details. Rubbish must be divided according to whether it is food, recyclable, dry or hazardous(有害的),the distinctions among which can be confusing, though there are apps to help work it out. Some have complained about the rules surrounding food waste. They must put it straight in the required public bin, forcing them to tear open plastic bags and toss(投掷)it by hand, Most annoying are the short periods for throwing trash, typically a couple of hours, morning and evening. Along with the monitors at the bins, this means that people go at around the same time and can keep an eye on what is being thrown out; no one wants to look bad.
【1】What's the purpose of Paragraph l?
A.To complain about rubbish dividing.
B.To explain the four categories of the waste.
C.To introduce the rules on waste sorting.
D.To show the goal of rubbish, sorting regulations.
【2】What does the underlined word "Violators" in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.People who don't pay for train tickets. B.People who argue with the monitors.
C.People who obtain bank loans. D.People who are against the regulations.

23、China successfully sent the 52nd and 53rd satellites of its domestically developed BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS)-the last two medium Earth orbit (MEO) satellites for the BDS-3 constellation(星座)-into space on Monday, marking the completion of the global navigation system's core constellation deployment(部署)and this year's BDS satellite launch campaign.
Launched from Xichang Satellite Launch Center, Sichuan Province, on board a Long March-3B carrier rocket with an Expedition-1 upper stage, the two satellites were injected into planned orbits after more than three hours' flight.
Since the first BDS-3 satellite was launched on November 5, 2017, China has conducted 18 BDS satellite launch missions, successfully sending 30 into their planned orbit, setting a national record for highest mission frequency and success rate.
In-orbit tests will be carried out before the two MEO satellites are commissioned(正式委托).By then the core constellation for the Chinese global navigation satellite system will be successfully completed.
Wang Ping, chief designer of the BDS-3 system, said that the hybrid constellation design, in which three groups of satellites-the Inclined Geo Synchronous Orbit (IGSO), MEO and geosynchronous Earth orbit (GEO)-work in concert in different orbits, was an exclusive BDS innovation and a world first. “Existing global navigation satellite systems, such as the US GPS and Russia's GLONASS, only have a MEO satellite constellation, ” said Wang.
The MEO satellites, in orbit 20, 000 kilometers above Earth, are a special type of satellite providing global service, while the IGSO and GEO satellites, in an orbit 360, 000 kilometers above Earth, mainly enhance regional service quality, according to Wang. That explained why completion of the MEO constellation was significant, marking the completion of the core network for BDS-3, meaning a stable BDS-3 global coverage without weak points has been carried out.
Feedback shows that the BDS service quality was already comparable to GPS since the end of 2018, and after completing BDS-3, “We will be as good as any GNSS, ” Wang said.
【1】How many BDS satellites were sent into their planned·orbit successfully?
A.3.
B.5.

24、Learning a second language can improve brain power, scientists believe. US researchers from Northwestern University say bilingualism(双语) is a form of brain training — a mental "work out" that adjusts the mind finely.
Speaking two languages well affects the brain and changes how the nervous system reacts to sound, lab tests showed. Experts say the experiment performed by the National Academy of Sciences provides "biological" evidence of this.
In an attempt to prove the guess that speaking two languages is good for one's mind, the team monitored how the brain of 48 healthy student volunteers reacted to different sounds. Twenty three of these volunteers were bilingual.
The scientists used special equipment to trace the pattern of brainwaves. Under quiet, laboratory conditions, the bilingual students responded in a similar way to the English-only-speaking students, who formed the control group. But the bilingual group were far superior at processing sounds even when there were a lot of people talking in the room. They were better able to focus on to the important information — the speaker's voice — and block out other distracting noises.
Prof Nina Kraus, who led the research, said: "The bilingual's better experience with sound results in a hearing system that is highly efficient, flexible and focused in its automatic sound processing, especially in challenging or novel listening conditions."
Co-author Viorica Marian said: "People do crossword puzzles and other activities to keep their minds sharp. But the advantages we've discovered in double language speakers come automatically simply from knowing and using two languages.'
Musicians appear to gain a similar benefit when rehearsing(彩排), say the researchers. According to some theories, being bilingual might help avoid dementia(痴呆).
