二、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 21、One mile long runway can take people across the oceans, to reach every corner of the world.

That’s the magic power of airplanes as well as airports. Similar as most airports are, some do have their unique features.

    Lukla Airport

Lukla Airport, is a small airport in the town of in the town of Lukla, eastern Nepal. A program titled Most Extreme Airports, rated the airport as the most dangerous airport in the world. The airport is popular because Lukla is the place where most people start the climb to Mount Everest Base Camp. High wind, cloud cover, and changing visibility often mean flights can be delayed or the airport closed. The airport’s runway is accessible only to helicopters and small, fixed-wing, short-takeoff-and-landing aircraft. The runway is only 527m with an elevation of 2,845m.

    Princess Juliana International Airport

Princess Juliana International Airport is in the country of Saint Maarten. The airport is perhaps best known for very low-altitude flyover landing approaches due to one end of its runway being extremely close to the shore and Maho Beach. The thrilling approaches and ease of access for shooting spectacular images make the airport one of the world’s favorite places among plane spotters.

    Gibraltar Airport

Gibraltar Airport serves the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, a tiny peninsula with an area of only 6.8 square kilometers. The lack of flat space there means the peninsula’s only runway is bisected by its busiest road, the Winston Churchill Avenue that heads towards the land border with Spain. It is really scary that there is a four lane highway passing through the middle of the runway!

    Kai Tak Airport

Kai Tak Airport was officially known as Hong Kong International Airport from 1954 to 6 July 1998, when it was closed and replaced by the new one at Chek Lap Kok, 30 kms to the west. With numerous skyscrapers and mountains located to the north and its only runway jutting out into Victoria Harbour, landing at the airport were dramatic to experience and technically demanding for pilots. The low altitude manoeuvre required to line up with the runway was so spectacular that some passengers claimed to have glimpsed the television through apartment windows along the final approach.

【1】Which of the following pictures can be a scene of Princess Juliana International Airport

【2】All of the following can be inferred from this passage Except ________.

    A. The transportation of Winston Churchill Avenue might be affected by planes.

    B. Lukla airport is the most dangerous airport because of extremely harsh weather

    C. An inexperienced pilot might have difficulty landing on Kai Tak Airport

    D. People on Maho Beach may have a good chance to view the plane flying overhead

【3】Which of these airports is out of business now?

    A. Lukla Airport

    B. Princess Juliana International Airport

    C. Gibraltar Airport

    D. Kai Tak Airport

  • 22、Are you interested in hi-tech products? Here are some that you might find at the market pretty soon.

    CX-1

Tired of dragging your bag through busy airports? Then you might want to consider CX-1. The smart suitcase uses facial recognizing software to follow its owner as he / she is checking in or heading to the gate. Black Box VR

  • 23、A year of lockdown has brought about some questionable fashion trends. In US suburbs, bathrobes and slippers are now socially-acceptable clothing for a trip to the grocery store.

Ugly shoes are also having moment. Crocs the maker of plastic clogs(木屐) now with market worth of $5. 3 billion, had a record 2020. The distinctive shoes, with their punch(打孔机) hole design, have long been popular with hospital staff. During the COVID-19 outbreak, they have become a sought-after item for those looking for something easy to wear and clean.

The company sold more than 69 million pairs of shoes in 2020 and pulled in nearly $1. 4 billion, a 13% jump from 2019. The share price, up 650 percent from its pandemic low, has set repeated new highs this year.

Birkenstock is another brand riding high on the shift to a more casual lifestyle. The German group recently sold itself to a LVMH-backed group in a 4 billion deal.

The two brands' popularity shows no sign of fading. Poshmark, the second-hand clothing app, said Crocs and Birkenstock remained top trending brands on its site in March. Sales are up sharply for both compared with the year-ago period. Cooperation with celebrities (Justin Bieber for Crocs, women's brand Proenza Schouler for Birkenstock) should help maintain the trend.

The same cannot be said for dress shoes, which were already falling out of fashion. Office closures and fewer special occasions such as weddings and graduations have accelerated the trend. Sales for the category plummeted last year, according to market researchers The NPD Group. These accounted for only 8% of total fashion footwear dollar sales in 2020, compared with 17% in 2017.

People will soon reach again for going-out clothes, more formal than pyjamas. But the market for dress shoes will never recover entirely. The ugly shoe movement is here to stay.

  • 24、That cold January night, I was growing sick of my life in Urumqi (capital of Xinjiang autonomous region, 准噶尔蒙古语, 意为“优美的牧场”) . There I was, walking home at one in the morning after a tiring practice at the theater. With opening night only a week away, I was still learning my lines. I was having trouble dealing with my part-time job at the bank and my acting at night at the same time. As I walked, I thought seriously about giving up both acting and Urumqi. City life had become too much for me.

As I walked down empty streets under tall buildings, I felt very small and cold. I began running, both to keep warm and to keep away from any possible robbers. Very few people were still out except a few sad-looking homeless people under blankets.

About a block from my apartment, I heard a sound behind me. I turned quickly, half expecting to see someone with a knife or a gun. The street was empty. All I saw was shining streetlight. Still, the noise had made me nervous, so I started to run faster. Not until I reached my apartment building and unlocked the door did I realize what the noise had been. It had been my wallet falling to the sidewalk.

Suddenly I wasn’t cold or tired anymore. I ran out of the door and back to where I’d heard the noise. Although I searched the sidewalk anxiously for fifteen minutes, my wallet was nowhere to be found.

Just as I was about to give up the search, I heard the garbage truck pull up to the sidewalk next to me. When a voice called from the inside “Alisa Guli?” (古丽,维吾尔语,意为美丽的花朵) I thought I was dreaming. How could this man know my name? The door opened, and out jumped a small red-haired man with an amused look in his eyes. “Is this what you’re looking for?” he asked, holding up a small square shape.

It was nearly 3 A.M. by the time I got into bed. I wouldn’t get much sleep that night, but I had gotten my wallet back. I also had gotten back some enjoyment of city life. I realized that the city couldn’t be a bad place as long as people were willing to help each other.

  • 26、阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

I believe that all humans are similar but we are all blind to this idea due to cultures, religions, and appearances that all form wrong ideas separating us as humans.

I recently had to privilege to travel to Africa. This trip allowed me to see a lot more of the world than most students my age. Two years ago, a week after completing my second year in high school I flew to Nairobi, Africa. This day on June 11, 2011 I did not know what to expect.

As a culturally blinded prep school student I stepped off a plane after an exhausting twenty-three hours of sitting. I was immediately exposed to an unknown world. The language as well as skin colors, facial expressions, clothing styles, and the atmosphere changed as a whole.

I was expecting this trip to create huge distinctions between the people of Africa and myself. I learned the total opposite. On the first day I bonded with the school children; I played a soccer game filled with laughter, raced between schoolhouses until our legs gave out and wouldn’t let us run anymore, and hopped in a jump rope contest with a group of enthusiastic girls. When I managed to escape from the lively children and their exciting games, I attempted to make sense of what I had just experienced. My brain was filled with various thoughts, until a little girl with smooth skin, shaved head, and a torn blue and green sweater walked over and hesitantly grasped my wrist. She inspected my hands and rubbed my fingernails. She let my hands drop and she looked at her own with the same attentiveness. Her eyes rose as she began to evaluate my face. I sat down on the earth so that we were eye level and likely for interaction. She then ran her hands through my curly hair and placed her hands on her own head. Then she looked into my eyes; I looked back into hers. Charmed in the moment, I tickled() her stomach, although we were both a stranger to each other. Immediately the school bell rang, she released a smile and ran towards her classroom.
