六、阅读理解 (共3题,共 15分)
  • 21、We touch our faces all the time, and it had never seemed to be a big problem-until COVID-19 arrived. Touching our faces—the “T-zone” of our eyes, nose and mouth can mean giving ourselves this virus (病毒).

This is why some scientists have suggested that we should avoid touching our faces. William Sawyer, from Henry the Hand, told The Washington Post, “Just stop this simple behavior (行为), and that would be better than any vaccine (疫苗).”

However, stopping this “simple” behavior might be harder than you think because we are used to it.

Some face-touching is an automatic behavior—like when there is an itch (痒) on your nose, you’ll touch it again and again without thinking. A 2014 study found that touching your face also helps you to have less stress (压力). For example, it’s possible for you to do it when you feel uncomfortable. According to Dacher Keltner, a psychologist at the University of California Berkeley, US, this action may also have a social use: when you are talking to someone, for example, touching your face means you want to talk about another thing.

Besides, it’s very hard to change this face-touching. “because you don’t even know you’re doing it”, said Sawyer.

But you’re not alone. In a 2015 study, it was found that a group of medical students touched their faces about 23 times an hour—with 44 percent of the touches in the “T-zones”. That was very surprising because medical students should know better.

Since it’s so hard to shake the habit, maybe the easiest way is to wash our hands more often. This way, we can be sure that our hands are safe from COVID-19.

    【1】Dacher Keltner thinks that face-touching may ________.

    A.be better than vaccine

    B.give yourself some stress

C.cause an itch on your face

D.mean you want to change the talk

【2】The writer uses a 2015 study to show that ________.

A.many people touch faces without knowing

B.we had better not touch the “T-zones” often

C.medical students should not touch their faces

D.people touch the “T-zones” more than the heads

【3】What is the main idea of the passage?

A.Good and bad points of face-touching.

    B.Stopping face-touching might be hard.

    C.Face-touching may bring us virus.

    D.Ways of avoiding face-touching.

  • 22、Some researchers find that less than half of a spoken message’s real meaning is in the words used in the message. They say that most of a message’s meaning comes from understanding how the speaker uses things like body language.

Just as there are many different languages spoken around the world, there are many different ways for people to use body language, too. For example, gestures may show different meanings in different cultures. Making a “thumbs up” sign in America means “Great”! However, in Arab cultures, this gesture is very impolite. And in India, if listeners want to show speakers that they understand, the listeners will move their heads from side to side. In many Western countries, a similar gesture means “no”.

Although many gestures can be explained differently by different cultures, there are also many gestures that are almost explained the same way. For example, a smile is understood as a sign of friendship or goodwill around the world.

There are also some forms of body language that can be usually read with the meaning, “I am interested in you”. These signs of interest include standing or sitting with both feet flat on the ground, mirroring or using the same gestures as the other person and turning one’s body to fully face the other person.

Body language that can be read with the meaning, “I am not interested in you” may include the following gestures: looking down or looking in another direction, crossing one’s arms or legs or tapping a foot or finger.

Body language experts point out one important thing. The person’s culture is only one factor that can have effect on his or her use of body language. The time and place where the body language is being used can have a lot to do with a person’s body language. If the person has had a bad day or if a meeting takes place in a crowded place, the body language a person uses maybe very different from that in other situations.

【1】What does the second paragraph describe?

A.Differences in the meanings of gestures in different cultures.

B.An example of a gesture not used in India but in Western countries.

C.The same gestures with the same meanings in Arab and American cultures.

D.How gestures completely change the meaning of a persons words.

    B.using

    C.offering

    D.copying

【3】Which gesture shows that you do not like the speaker?

A.Your eyes becoming wider when talking.

B.Eating or drinking while the person speaks.

C.Not making eye contact with the speaker.

D.Turning your body to face the speaker

【4】How does the writer support his/her ideas in this passage?

    A.By showing numbers.

    B.By giving examples.

    C.By describing a course.

    D.By using time order.
