四、阅读理解 (共4题,共 20分)
  • 24、   Hi, everyone, my name is Isabella and I’m an artist and fashion designer. But today, I’m not here to specially talk to you about art or fashion. Today I want to talk to you about dreams and stories.

Did you know that 4-minute mile once thought to be impossible? It was something outside we can consider. But in 1954, a guy named Bannister achieved.   35  In the following two months, two other runners broke 4-minute record and in the following three years and 19 runners continued. And now, it’s common for an experienced runner to be able to run a mile under 4 minutes. It’s just that they didn’t think it was impossible any more.

So we should dream big. I have always to be encouraged to dream big. And I think when you’re very little and maybe don’t know any better it’s easier to do because there’s fearlessness before you become afraid of something. What did you want to be? A movie star, an actor or an astronaut. Maybe you didn’t achieve these dreams, as you got older. Because as you got older, you became afraid. It’s important to hold on your fearlessness just like a child. Because it’s fearlessness that helps us achieve our dreams.

I’m a big fan of what I called dream board. It’s just a piece of paper. There’re lots of pictures of things I would like to achieve and I put it in a place where I see it every day and that helps me. I started doing this a few years ago because I read a study in the US showing that people who made dream boards are more likely to achieve them. I know this may not be new or useful to everyone, but for me, the act of making my dream board every year and seeing it every morning really helps me.

Another thing that I really believe in is the world. I believe that once you have your dreams and begin to work for it, people start appearing in your life that can offer support and help… So let’s face it, there’s going to be a lot of challenges but to get through. I think courage is needed.

In conclusion, after all of this dreaming you have to work hard and put a lot of time into everything you’re doing and have courage because there’s going to be a lot of difficulty but just remember the world is trying to help you. I know that I’m not the only one that has dreams. Everybody has dreams. You just need to work hard to achieve them.

    Thank you!

1What can we learn about the dream board?

    A. It is a piece of paper with what Isabella Taylor dreams about.

    B. It is a piece of paper with what Isabella Taylor has achieved.

    C. Isabella Taylor was the first to make a dream board in the US.

    D. Isabella Taylor makes a new board when she starts a dream.

2Which sentence is the most suitable for the blank 35  in paragraph2?

    A. Still, people thought Bannister’s mark was impossible to break.

    B. There was no reason why he should have gone on to do anything great.

    C. Perhaps human body had reached its limit after Bannister broke the record.

    D. It opened the floodgates for everyone else to continue breaking this record.

3Which of the following are necessary to achieve dreams according to Isabella Taylor?

    a. Being afraid of nothing.

    b. Making a dream board.

    c. Devoting yourself to working hard.

    d. Asking people around you for help.

    A. ac B. ad C. bc D. bd

    4What’s the talk mainly about?

    A. The importance of dreaming big and having courage.

    B. How to make a dream board about art and fashion design.

    C. Isabella Taylor’s experiences of achieving dreams successfully.

    D. Isabella Taylor’s understanding of how to make dreams come true.

  • 25、When I was a junior high school student in 1980 , God gave me a gift —it was happiness. One weekend , I went to visit my grandparents in the countryside. On my way home , a car ran over me and cut off my arm because of its high speed .

Several days later when I woke up at the hospital , I realized I had to spend the rest of my life without arm. How sad and scared I felt at that time ! But slowly I knew I had to face the fact and got over  it  . I couldn’t get my arm back even though I cried every day . However, it`s easier said than done . It took me half a year to get out of the sadness completely.

I got so much from my past story. From then on , I could treat my life with a normal  mind. But in our daily life, I often see my classmates get serious about little things. For example, they get bad grades in the test; their bus comes late; they don’t have a mobile phone but others have . But I only enjoy life . I was lucky to realize from an accident: it is a waste of our life to focus on (关注) what you have lost . We should always think of what we have. So why are so many people unhappy? Someone may say, “My whole life would improve if I have a new car.” But when you get the car and what happens? For a whole week you are walking on air. Then you go right back to being unhappy.

Happiness depends on what we have! It’s in our heart. It’s a state of mind. Even though you own the whole world, you may still feel unhappy.

Happiness comes from mastering the art of appreciating (感激) and taking pleasure in what you really have.

1Why did the accident happened ?

    A. Because I woke up at the hospital

    B. Because a car run so fast that it hit me

    C. Because God gave me a gift that I was so happy

    D. Because it`s in the countryside so that the accident happened

    2In Paragraph 2, “got over it ”, “ it ” stands for ______________.

    A. the hospital B. my arm C. the car D. the fact

3When did the writer realize “Happiness depends on what we have!” ?

    A. After he was sad and scared at that time!

    B. Before he had the accident, he visited my grandparents.

    C. After he had the accident and couldn’t get his arm back.

    D. Before it took him nearly half a year to get out of the sadness completely .

4From the passage, which situation we should get serious? .

    A. Our bus comes late.

    B. We lost what we have and felt sad.

    C. We don’t have a mobile phone but others have.

    D. Our whole life would improve if we have new cars.

5After you read the article, what do you do whenyou face the life?

    A. I’ll get serious about little things.

    B. I’ll go right back to being unhappy.

    C. I’ll appreciate and take pleasure in what I really have.

    D. I’ll get back what I really lost even though I cried every day.

  • 26、The novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) has already made tens of thousands of people sick. Where did the virus come from? Scientists say it probably came from bats.

Bats can carry and transmit (传播) more than 60 viruses that can infect (传染) humans, Live Science noted. They include the world’s deadliest viruses, such as Ebola and HIV. Due to their strong immune systems (免疫系统), bats are able to host these viruses and not get sick. At the same time, the viruses keep developing inside the bats to create new variants (变体). These variants can then infect new hosts, such as other wild animals.

Pangolins (穿山甲), for example, might be an intermediate host (中间宿主) for NCP, according to a recent study by Chinese scientists. This means that bats might have given the virus to pangolins, with pangolins then spreading it to humans.

Wild animals like snakes, hedgehogs (刺猬) and bamboo rats also carry various viruses. But since they live in the wild, there should be little chance for humans to come into contact with them and get infected – unless the animals are eaten or used to make animal products. When people hunt, buy and eat wild animals, they can introduce viruses to the rest of the population.

But this doesn’t mean that we should kill wild animals. Each species has a role in the ecosystem (生态系统) and all of them are important in keeping a natural ecological balance. The lesson we can learn from disease outbreaks is to respect and protect animals and to live in harmony with them instead of hunting, killing, or eating them.

【1】Why can bats host many viruses without getting sick?

A.Because these viruses are not deadly.

B.Because they have strong immune systems.

C.Because the viruses are kept in balance.

D.Because they can spread the viruses to other animals.

【2】According to a recent study, humans might get infected with COVID-19 from________.

    A.pangolins

    B.snakes

    C.hedgehogs

    D.bamboo rats

【3】What does the word “harmony” in the last paragraph probably mean?

    A.隔离

    B.和谐

    C.伤害

    D.集中

【4】According to the story, what lesson should humans learn?

    A.Research more about wild animals.

    B.Exercise regularly to stay healthy.

    C.Stop keeping animals as pets.

D.Don’t buy or eat wild animals.

  • 27、I don’t want to brag (吹嘘), OK, maybe I do want to a little. I have two very smart daughters. My oldest is 7 and she is one of the best students in her second grade class and my youngest, who is 2, is learning new things every day. When it comes to their cleverness, I believe this is because they love reading.

When my wife and I first became parents, we were told by a number of people that the best thing we could do for our kids was to encourage them to read. However, with things like television and video games out there, we found it was sometimes hard to make books seem more interesting. But, we succeeded with both of them by doing a few different things.

One of the first things we did was reading to them. My youngest daughter can’t read books herself yet. But, I also take the time to read to my oldest daughter, too. Not only is this a great way to bond with your kids and make them like you, it also introduces them to a world that they might not realize. One thing I recommend is making sure you plan first so you have plenty of time to read more than one book if they want it. This allows you to read their favorite stories while mixing in something new, too.

Another thing I started doing with my oldest daughter is having her read to her younger sister. This makes her practice reading out loud something she gets to do at school and loves to and I’ve noticed my 2-year-old seems to pay closer attention to the stories for some reason. The second thing we do with our kids is we challenge them to read outside their level. I have given my oldest daughter books that are a little more complicated (复杂的). I do this so she doesn’t get bored with “kids” books. For example, the other day, I had her try to read a Sherlock Holmes story. It was a bit hard. But, she understood it enough and she wanted to read it again with my help.

I also encourage her to read newspapers and magazines. I do the same thing when I read to my youngest daughter and will sometimes borrow one of her sister’s books. So far, she’s still paying attention when I read them. Third, and most important, I let them be kids and consider their interests. Reading is a great thing. But, you can get too much of a great thing, too. I let them mix in television, video games, etc. This keeps reading a bit more exciting for them because they like reading the books that they want to rather than think I’m forcing them to read instead of letting them do other things.

【1】What makes the writer feel difficult is ________.

    A. how his children improve their reading and writing

    B. that his youngest daughter can’t read books

    C. how to keep TV and video from disturbing his children

    D. how he finds interesting and good books for his kids

【2】What does the underlined phrase bond with your kids in Paragraph 3 mean?

    A. Having a good relationship with your kids.

    B. Encouraging your children to learn a lot.

    C. Making your kids feel very surprised.

    D. Making your kids live freely.

【3】Why does the writer let his oldest daughter read a Sherlock Holmes story?

    A. His oldest daughter likes the books that adults read.

    B. The writer wants his daughter not to lose her interest in reading.

    C. The writer wants to know whether his daughter can understand it.

    D. The writer wants to show off his daughter’s reading ability.

【4】According to the writer, which of the following ways are helpful to kids’ reading?

Letting kids watch TV and play games.

Reading kids’ favourite books only with something new to them.

Encouraging kids to read newspapers and magazines.

Having older kids read to younger ones.

Having kids read as adults do.

    A. ①②③   B. ②③④ C. ③④   D. ①③④
